Some protests in Toronto are crossing lines. We shouldn’t let city staff decide where those lines are

Many Torontonians are sick of anti-Israel protests that have gone too far. Some have been peaceful, but others have blockaded major intersections or blared hateful chants. Some have targeted Jews. Recently, a protester appeared to direct a smoke bomb towards diners at Jewish-owned Café Landwer. Toronto police took the unusual step of charging the suspect with mischief.

The incident was a reminder that police already have the laws they need to end the disorder when protests cross a line. There is simply no need for the new “bubble zone” bylaw that the City of Toronto council passed on Thursday in a 16-9 vote.

The problem has been getting the Police to act.

Yes there have been arrests but appearances suggest political meddling in enforcement.

Why Do Truck Drivers Need to Speak English?

The left is furious that the Trump administration is officially enforcing (effective date: June 25) the longstanding law that truck drivers must be proficient in English.

The left claims that you don’t need to speak English to drive; this must be bigotry against immigrants, or against Spanish speakers, or against the uneducated, or against certain ethnicities.

It’s not.

The Devil You Don’t Know

When did the devil disappear? The image of Satan persists, but mostly as kitsch. The few who believe in him are typically portrayed as unserious, even gauche. The prevailing view holds that progress has vanquished the superstitions of earlier, more fearful, eras. It matters little, apparently, that the twentieth century was the bloodiest in history.

The Fight Over Forced Rehab

Canada’s nightmarish opioid crisis has renewed calls for involuntary drug treatment. Does the government have a right to force users to get help?

As a teenager in Los Angeles, Marshall Smith earned a reputation as a party boy. He moved to British Columbia after high school and continued to drink throughout his twenties while working in the provincial corrections system, first as a guard and later in administrative roles. In 2001, he took a job doing municipal affairs with the provincial government, contributing to Vancouver’s bid for the 2010 Olympics. Then, one night in a club, he tried cocaine for the first time. He quickly grew addicted and also began using methamphetamine, a drug that provides raging, frenetic highs. Within months, his life and career crumbled. “I hung up my suit and tie and vanished into the streets,” he says.

“The designation of the AfD as extremist is a political, not a legal verdict”—AfD MP Anna Nguyen

“The designation of the AfD as an extremist party is a political, not a legal verdict. It is not a decision of the Supreme Court but of the internal intelligence services under the Ministry of the Interior led by Nancy Faeser, who made this decision days before she had to leave office after the defeat of the SPD. This happened on May 2nd, and the following week, with the election of Friedrich Merz as the new Chancellor, Faeser ceased to be Minister, so the political intentionality of this affair is evident. The report of the internal secret services was not sent to us beforehand, so we did not know what we were accused of, however, it was sent to several newspapers in order to generate a scandal. Now we have it and we have seen that these are public opinions, such as tweets or speeches, that is, there is nothing secret, and that they are also covered by freedom of speech; there is nothing criminal in those opinions. For example, I am mentioned in the report for tweeting “#Alice for Germany.“ That’s ridiculous. There is nothing extremist, there is truth and common sense.”

FBI to reinvestigate 2023 White House cocaine find and leak of supreme court Dobbs draft

The FBI will launch new investigations into the 2023 discovery of a bag of cocaine at the White House during Joe Biden’s term, as well as into pipe bombs discovered at Democratic and Republican party headquarters before the 6 January 2021 Capitol riot by supporters of Donald Trump, and the leak of the supreme court’s draft opinion before the historic overturning of national abortion rights with the Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision that overturned Roe v Wade in 2022.

Dan Bongino, a rightwing podcaster turned deputy director of the FBI, made the announcement on X, where he said he had requested weekly briefings on any progress in looking into the old cases. The incidents have been popular talking points on America’s political right wing and among conspiracy theorists.

BARBER: Sadly the ‘genocide’ against white South African farmers is real

Witkruis or Plaasmoorde Monument South Africa

President Trump’s declaration that Afrikaners are refugees has sparked controversy, for it raises several complex issues.

Afrikaners are the descendants of Dutch settlers. The Dutch began settling in small numbers in what is now South Africa in 1652. Later other European groups settled there and intermingled with the Dutch. Many Afrikaners moved to rural areas in the mid-1800s, but a large community continued to live in Cape Town.

WARMINGTON: If a grenade doesn’t go off in a crowd, does it mean it wasn’t real?

Hundreds of armed police officers, 56,000 participating in the Walk With Israel, and one pro-Hamas supporter with a hand grenade.

It was quite a sight — and, thankfully, there was no terror attack.

How Canada’s relationship with Israel went from ‘best friend’ to breakdown

Canada’s relationship with Israel has travelled a long way since 2015, when prime minister Stephen Harper and aspiring rival Justin Trudeau competed to claim the title of best friend of the Jewish state.

After winning his majority in 2011, Harper realigned Canada’s votes at the United Nations, joining a firmly pro-Israel bloc comprised of the U.S. and a group of Pacific island microstates that normally follow Washington’s lead.

That bloc would often be joined by a wider circle of pro-Israel nations; on the most controversial matters, however, its core members voted alone with Israel against overwhelming majorities.

The Left’s terrorism problem and the wormy Western apple

The problem is that terrorists are emerging, as they did in the 1960s and 1970s, from the family album of progressivism.

Karl Marx said that the poor have only to lose their chains, but terrorism always comes from the elite of society, from the Tsarist Russia portrayed by Dostoevsky to the present day.

A violent gnosis typical of the wealthy cultural classes and economic elites, contrary to popular belief that terror is a result of poverty and deprivation. They have diplomas from private schools and prestigious degrees, often excellent bank accounts and are committed full time to overthrowing the Western society that generated them and destroying the culture by which they were, in spite of themselves, nourished.
