NY Times, Back on Censorship Kick, Frets Over Trump’s ‘Misinformation Research’ Cuts

New York Times reporter Steven Lee Myers, who covers “misinformation and disinformation” and is a social media censorship supporter and First Amendment non-fan, is back with a story posted on Thursday, relaying the sad news that the Trump administration is against self-styled invariably leftist misinformation “experts” – i.e. social media censors: “Trump Administration Cancels Scores of Grants to Study Online Misinformation.”

But who determines what counts as “misinformation”?

Is Canada’s legal weed tied to a smuggling epidemic abroad?

PARIS—There is a brisk and growing trade between Canada and Europe, and it has nothing to do with American tariffs or Donald Trump.

Canadian cannabis is increasingly washing up on the shores of this continent, landing in its airports and being sold on its streets. It is part of an illegal-smuggling trend that authorities believe is tied to Canada’s 2018 decision to legalize the sale and consumption of marijuana.

That law made Canada a leader — the first among industrialized nations to permit recreational cannabis use. Now, Canada has developed an international black eye as a top source nation for the drug, which remains illegal in much of the world.

Trudeau pushed legalization. I’m betting because China wanted it.

Bono Gets Hysterical over USAID Cuts: ‘A Million Children Dying Because Their Life Support Systems Were Pulled out of the Wall, with Glee‘

CANNES, France (AP) — Cannes is a short trip from Bono’s seaside villa in Eze-sur-Mer. He bought it with The Edge in 1993, and considers himself grateful to a coastline that, he says, gave him a “delayed adolescence.”

“I can tell you I’ve slept on beaches close to here,” Bono says with a grin. “I’ve woken up in the sun.”

There is no bottom to Bono.

A tiny electric car tried to push us off the sidewalk. Should it be there?

My five-year-old son and I were walking the dog when we heard honking behind us on the sidewalk. It was a small car, about the width of the sidewalk, coming surprisingly fast. We were between a fence and the busy street so we couldn’t get off the sidewalk and out of its way. The driver kept honking and finally drove onto the street without looking, making a car slam on its brakes. After he passed us, he rolled down his window and said he had the right of way because he’s a senior in a mobility scooter.

Sean Combs allies hoping for Trump pardon

Something in common …

Earlier this week, The Onion ran a piece headlined “Sean Combs Asks for Quick Trial So He Can Get to Part Where Trump Pardons Him.”

It may be on to something.

Combs, who was charged last September, is currently on trial in the Southern District of New York on sex-trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges. But starting after Donald Trump won the presidential election in November, close associates of the mogul got to work on cozying up to Trumpland.

One person was killed Saturday and four people were injured when a bomb exploded outside a fertility clinic in Palm Springs, California, in what local officials called an “intentional act of terrorism.”

The blast may have come from a car parked outside American Reproductive Centers, Mayor Ron DeHarte told The Post.

“The blast appears to be an intentional act of violence,” Palm Springs Fire Chief Paul Alvarado said in a statement. “The blast field extends for blocks with several buildings damaged, some severely.”

Perp is a real progressive piece of work.

Everything you need to know about the threat of Alberta separatism

After the Conservatives’ federal election loss, some Albertans frustrated with Liberal government policies are rallying for separation from Canada. Recently, hundreds of separatists held a rally at the Alberta legislature, angered at the province’s place within confederation.

It’s not the first time Albertans have pushed for sovereignty. There were upswings in separatist sentiment during the National Energy Program in the 1980s. More recently, separatist agitators gained steam in the dying years of the 2010s, angered over Liberal legislation that targeted the energy sector and a general downturn in the petro-province’s economic fortunes. This culminated with the now-defunct Wexit movement.

Kentucky’s governor, Andy Beshear, said at a briefing in London, Kentucky, that “at least 18” of the deaths were in his state. At least nine of those were reported after a tornado sparked what authorities called a mass casualty event in south-eastern Kentucky.

The storms were part of a weather system on Friday that killed seven people in Missouri and spawned more than two dozen tornadoes in Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois and Indiana, left several hundred thousand customers without power in the Great Lakes region and brought a punishing heatwave to Texas.
