British Born and Bred

A mirror of crisis, there is an ongoing debate in the news media and various podcasts about what it actually means to be “British” (i.e. beyond the possession of a passport). A particularly sensitive topic in that connection is the right of a nation to demarcate itself from the rest of the world. (In the United States, the political conflict is symbolized by a border wall.)

In a trivial sense, we are all equally human, belonging to the same humanity. However, it goes against the ordinary meaning of the word to claim that we all equally belong to the same “nation”. Arising from Judeo-Christian faith, Greco-Roman philosophy-oratory, and Enlightenment ideals, neither British nor broader Western values are universal.

How feminism created Andrew Tate & Co

MODERN feminists have waged war against traditional gender roles and masculinity. They have said that conventional masculine roles are built into the patriarchy and are responsible for war and widespread violence. This has led men to look for role models who accentuate these ‘traditional’ roles. These role models portray the worst forms of masculinity and misogyny, creating the manosphere. Let us examine the feminist rebellion against gender roles and how that gave rise to a countermovement.

Does the United States ‘Need’ Canada?

President Trump had one big question on his mind as Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney headed to Washington last week.

“I very much want to work with him, but cannot understand one simple TRUTH,” Mr. Trump said in a social media post, reiterating several of ways he believes Canada benefits unfairly from its trade relationship with United States.

The president also repeated his incorrect claim that the United States is “subsidizing” Canada to the tune of $200 billion, alluding to the country’s trade deficit with Canada, which is the value of what the United States imports minus its exports.

Did You Shoot Somebody in Self-Defense? There’s an Insurance Policy for That.

Rise in gun ownership and stand-your-ground laws drives a lucrative new market to insulate shooters from criminal and civil liability

Just after 2 a.m. on a November night, police were called to the home of Joshua Huston to respond to a shooting. Huston had camped out with his AR-15 rifle on a lot he owned next to his Florida home, hoping to catch the person who had been stealing from the property.

Government-funded media feared Tory win

Manitoba Daily, a newspaper that led the national campaign for a $595 million government media bailout, claimed the “uncertainty of the political landscape” is impacting subsidized outlets.

The publisher of the Winnipeg Free Press did not identify any political party by name but noted the loss of taxpayers’ aid would hurt the business, according to Blacklock’s Reporter.

Canada needs a foreign human intelligence service

The Beaver who came in from the cold.

For decades, a small circle of government officials and academics have periodically debated whether Canada should establish a foreign human intelligence service. Proponents have argued that, as the only G7 member state without such a body, Canada needs to set up its own version of an American CIA or British MI6. Opponents have responded that Canada’s secure position in North America and the important benefits it already derives from intelligence partnerships, such as the Five Eyes, have made the many challenges of creating a separate foreign intelligence agency unnecessary.

It is time to revisit this debate.

Winning the War on Beauty

Recent advertisements and public art drip with the hatred that Hollywood and Madison Ave. have for natural male desire.

Historians analyzing the first quarter of the 21st Century will have many anomalous riddles to ponder about the no longer ruling class. Did they really believe defunding the police would lower crime? That employment based on race, sex, or sexual orientation rather than merit would produce a higher standard, including for the military? That black lives mattered more than others? That climate change would destroy the planet by — just pick a date and push it back a decade. That importing millions of anti-Western immigrants would strengthen Western Europe — and those who refuted this online should be arrested? That preborn infanticide was a woman’s right? That bodily butchery could turn boys into girls — and those who denied it should be banned or expelled? And that fat black women represented the zenith of beauty after 5,000 years of white-privileged sexism?

Separatist group releases potential Alberta referendum question

An Alberta separatist group released on Monday a referendum question on independence from Canada that it will petition to get in front of provincial voters — but only once it has garnered support from 600,000 Albertans.

That’s more than triple the number of signatures the Alberta Prosperity Project (APP) would need under a new United Conservative Party government bill that makes it much easier to force a referendum on the ballot.

The group also said it would push Premier Danielle Smith to allow a separation referendum later in 2025, instead of next year as she’s suggested. They said a critical mass of separatist UCP members can persuade the premier to fast-track the referendum.

Journalism or Jihad?

The Qatar-based Al Jazeera Media Institute recently hosted a webinar for journalists about detecting media bias to coincide with Press Freedom Day. One big problem: Muhammad Khamaiseh, the Al Jazeera instructor who specializes in “journalism ethics”, himself has a record not only of media bias but of hatred and discrimination. That’s quite an ethical dilemma, an area in which he claims to be an expert, and it’s also a dilemma for Al Jazeera, the organization for which he frequently acts as a public standard bearer.

New York Takes a Troubling Turn With Assisted-Suicide Bill

On Tuesday, April 29, the New York State Assembly passed the inaptly named Medical Aid in Dying Act by a vote of 81-67, with some 20 Democrats breaking ranks to join Republicans in opposition. Though it must still pass the senate and receive Governor Kathy Hochul’s signature, this is the first time that an assisted-suicide bill has cleared one of the state’s legislative chambers, signaling a troubling turn in New York’s approach to end-of-life care.

As written, the bill would allow patients to make a written request for a lethal drug cocktail if they have “an incurable and irreversible illness or condition” that gives them six months or less to live. Approval is subject to the judgment of two physicians, who must “examine the patient and the patient’s relevant medical records” to confirm that he has such a terminal illness.

Not nearly as bad as Canada where a hangnail of 10 years ago merits MAID.

GOLDBERG: Carney now has the chance to drive down our internet bills

Out with the old and in with the new.

That might have been Prime Minister Mark Carney’s motto when he unveiled his new cabinet before triggering an election that saw his Liberals returned to power.

While Carney’s cabinet largely kept familiar faces from the Trudeau regime, almost every minister changed jobs, and the cabinet itself was significantly downsized.
