Bush official claims US built secret $21T underground ‘city’ for rich and powerful to live if ‘near-extinction event’ happens

A former housing official who worked under President George H. W. Bush has made an astonishing claim that the U.S. government spent years funneling money into the creation of a secret underground “city” where the rich and powerful can shelter in the event of a “near-extinction event.”

Catherine Austin Fitts, who served as the assistant secretary of Housing and Urban Development for Housing between 1989 and 1990, made the shocking allegations during an appearance on former Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s podcast, although there is no concrete evidence to support her claims.

Eric Kaufmann: The Americanization of Canadian politics

Canadian politics is entering a new, more American phase, with ideology and polarization playing a stronger role than ever before.

This might seem counterintuitive given that Canadian animosity towards America over Trump’s annexation and tariff threats was the defining issue of the election. But if we peer beneath the surface, a series of structural trends are apparent, in line with a broader realignment of politics across the Western world.

AfD Challenges “Right-Wing Extremist” Designation in Court

The right-wing populists Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) is suing Germany’s domestic intelligence agency, BfV, after it designated the party as a “right-wing extremist” organization, opening the door for constant police surveillance or even banning.

Suspiciously issued just after AfD took over the ruling CDU in the polls and became Germany’s most popular party, BfV’s decision was clearly “politically motivated” and represents a “severe blow to German democracy,” AfD co-presidents Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla said in a statement last Friday. They promised to keep fighting for the freedom of expression and challenge the ruling with all legal tools available.

Doug Ford asks Mark Carney to prioritize tunnel under Highway 401

Ontario Premier Doug Ford is seeking Prime Minister Mark Carney’s support for his idea to build a tunnel under Highway 401.

Ford sent the prime minister a letter today setting out a series of Ontario priorities that he hopes Carney will address, including accessing critical minerals, building an electric-vehicle supply chain and enacting bail reforms.

This is worse than Rob wanting a Monorail.

Lucy Powell’s grooming gangs dismissal shames Labour

Pressure is growing on Lucy Powell MP to resign, following her sneering dismissal of public anger over the ongoing Pakistani-majority rape gang scandal. During an appearance on the BBC’s Any Questions, commentator Tim Montgomerie asked Powell if she had seen the recent Channel 4 documentary on the rape gangs — a programme which highlighted the indifference of police and social services to these crimes, for fear of upsetting “community relations”.

Terry Newman: Pierre Poilievre won the right to stay on as leader

The election dust has settled, leaving the Liberals with a minority government. This has led to calls — from both conservatives and progressives — for Pierre Poilievre to step down as Conservative party leader. But these calls are premature, overlook the success of several of Poilievre’s policies — many of which were co-opted by the Liberals in order to win — and severely underestimate the Liberals’ incumbent advantage in the face of an unforeseeable natural disaster that plagued an otherwise normal Canadian election campaign — U.S. President Donald Trump.

Why did it take so long to kick men out of women’s football?

Last week, the English Football Association (FA) finally remembered why women’s football exists – and it’s not to let men who identify as women ‘validate’ their identities.

In a short statement on its website, the FA confirmed that, in light of the recent Supreme Court decision on gender, it ‘will be changing [its] policy’ on men in women’s football. ‘Transgender women will no longer be able to play in women’s football in England’, it said. The decision will come into effect from 1 June.

Epstein files update: ‘No specific timeline’ for release

Ready for an update on the Epstein file release from the “most transparent” administration ever? Yeah, well that “Phase 2”, or anything that’s actually worth a da*n isn’t coming—or as Karoline Leavitt said when questioned about progress on that front during a White House press conference: there’s “no specific” timeline, but Pam Bondi the “bulldog” and the DOJ are working “diligently” to see justice served.

The DOJ holdovers that somehow didn’t have a problem “serving” at the direction of Merrick Garland and Joe Biden?

Immigrants denied Carney his majority

The immigrant vote, long considered a reliable vote store for the Liberal Party, is quickly emerging as an important factor in having denied Prime Minister Mark Carney his expected majority.

Not only did immigrants break for the Tories in any number of pre-election polls, but immigrant-heavy ridings were the most likely to see their share of the Conservative vote increase as compared to 2021.

An analysis published Thursday by The Economist found that among the 31 Toronto-area ridings whose population was at least 40 per cent immigrants, almost all of them experienced a shift to the Conservatives as compared to the 2021 federal election.

“I’m sorry your honor, I’m a little nervous today,” the embattled hip-hop icon told Judge Arun Subramanian, asking for a two-minute bathroom break after roughly 90 minutes of juror questioning in the hotly anticipated case.

“Pointless Provocation”: Muslim Prayer Taught to Catholic Pupils in Italian Mosque

A group of Catholic preschoolers kneeling in a mosque during a school trip has sparked a political uproar in Italy, with critics decrying the episode as a case of religious indoctrination and cultural surrender—reigniting fierce debate over the limits of integration in the country’s schools.

The children, aged between three and six, from the Santa Maria delle Vittorie school, were taken to the Emanuet Islamic Cultural Center, where they participated in an activity led by Imam Avnija Nurceski. WHISSELL — Hey CBC, pull up your pants, you’re flashing your bias

It’s far too early to be singing the praises of Mark Carney, but that isn’t stopping the CBC from becoming his loudest cheerleader. While the public sector is being decimated, the public broadcaster continues to receive government support.

You can see it in their eyes and hear it in their uneasy laughter.
