Carney appointed Liberal candidate’s suspect relations with China consulate trigger fresh concerns

New questions have surfaced about relations between a federal Liberal candidate running in Markham-Unionville and China’s consulate in Toronto, including his presentation of an award of appreciation to a consul-general and appearing to salute the Communist flag at an event celebrating the establishment of the People’s Republic of China.

Christian devotees are NAILED to crosses – including one doing it for the 36th time – and are left bloodied by self-flagellation as they re-enact the crucifixion to mark Good Friday

Christian devotees were nailed to crosses and left covered in blood after self-flagellation during a re-enactment of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion to mark Good Friday.

Swathes of Filipinos and foreign tourists flocked to the northern village of San Pedro Cutud in the Philippines to witness Ruben Enaje, 64, and two other devotees be nailed to wooden crosses. This is the 36th time Enaje has participated in the re-enactment.

Actors donning Roman soldier costumes hammered the carpenter’s palms with two-inch nails and ropes and fabric supported their bodies as they were raised on the crosses.

US ready to abandon Ukraine peace deal if there is no progress, says Marco Rubio

The US will abandon its efforts “within days” to broker a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine unless there are clear signs a settlement can be reached, the US secretary of state, Marco Rubio, has said, as Kyiv says it has signed a memorandum with the US over a controversial minerals deal.

Speaking in Paris on Friday after meeting European and Ukrainian leaders, Rubio said Donald Trump was still interested in a deal. But he added that the US president had many other priorities around the world and was willing to move on unless there were signs of progress.

Rubio’s comments are the clearest signal yet that the White House is ready to walk away from its diplomatic attempts to negotiate an end to the war. Last month Ukraine agreed unconditionally to a US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire.

Did the Conservatives go too hard on Jagmeet Singh?

Back in the summer, the Conservative Party of Canada spent millions of dollars on an attack ad against NDP leader Jagmeet Singh. The ad showed Mr. Singh on the cover of a fake magazine called “Luxury Pensioner Monthly,” and rattled off some of the finer goods – Rolex watches, a BMW and a Versace bag – that the progressive leader had paired himself with over years. “But now he’s got a problem,” the narrator said. “He needs to delay the election ‘til next year when he qualifies for his $2-million pension.”

The narrator continued: “So he sold you out, signed on with Trudeau to raise taxes, crime and housing costs.”

French anti-migration philosopher Renaud Camus banned from entering Britain

‘They don’t want me to speak,’ says Renaud Camus who claims immigration will lead to ‘replacement’ of Europe’s indigenous people

A philosopher opposed to mass migration has been banned from entering Britain after the Home Office ruled his presence would go against “the public good”.

Renaud Camus, the French novelist, was barred from travelling to the UK to speak on immigration later this month.

The 78-year-old has warned that unchecked immigration will lead to demographic “replacement” of Europe’s indigenous populations.

You can bet that Carney and his pal the Mass Immigration Plotter Wiseman would ban Camus as well.

RoRo! EV Fire At Port!

Major EV Fire Breaks Out Aboard Ro/Ro at Zeebrugge

On Wednesday, a fire broke out aboard a ro/ro cargo ship at the port of Zeebrugge, Belgium, prompting an immediate – and successful – emergency response.

Ro/ro fires are a serious issue, and the growing popularity of electric cars has made the potential consequences more severe. Fires can spread rapidly within enclosed ro/ro decks, and EV fires are even harder to put out. New industry guidance calls for operators to respond with evacuation, ventilation shutdown and initiation of CO2 flooding very early in the firefighting process – before the fire can spread or injure anyone.

Canada’s Gen Z Voters Turn to Conservative Poilievre in Race Against Carney

Giancarlo Zorrilla attended a campaign rally for the first time in his life in March. It was a rainy night near Vancouver — typical weather for Canada’s west coast — but that wasn’t stopping the 29-year-old Canadian from seeing Pierre Poilievre speak.

“It’s time for a change,” Zorrilla said on his way in to see the Conservative leader give a fervent, hour-long speech on skyrocketing housing prices and the failures of former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Sure, Trudeau has stepped away from politics, but even a Trudeau-less Liberal Party is “still the same rock band,” Zorrilla mused.

Video shows Ice agents smashing car window to detain asylum seeker

A Massachusetts family is demanding answers from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice), complaining its agents smashed a car window with a large hammer and detained a man whom they say had applied for asylum.

A lawyer for the family also claims agents were not looking for the man in the car, Juan Francisco Mendez, when they grabbed him on Monday in New Bedford while he was driving to a dental appointment. He is now believed to have been taken into Ice detention.

The lawyer, Ondine Galvez-Sniffin, told the Associated Press in an interview that the agents claimed they were looking for another man with a different name before they dragged Mendez and his wife out of the car.

Mark Carney’s Liberals hold slim but persistent lead over Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives, polls suggest

Heading into the Easter long weekend, Mark Carney’s Liberals have a slim lead over Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives in the April 28 election, according to Star’s election predictor, the Signal.

“There’s a bit of a narrowing of the lead. If the trend continues, it could be a very tight race,” Clifton van der Linden, a McMaster University political science professor and the CEO of Vox Pop Labs, the independent research organization that developed the Signal, which analyzes publicly available polling data in a supercomputer.

US-Ukraine mineral deal is back on, to be signed next week, Trump says

WASHINGTON — The US and Ukraine will finally sign a long sought-after mineral rights agreement next week after months of negotiations, according to officials from both countries.

President Trump announced in the Oval Office Thursday that an agreement had been reached, estimating that it would be formalized April 24 at a location to be determined later.

In a little-noticed series of X posts early Wednesday, Ukrainian Minister of the Economy Yulia Svyrydenko announced that “a positive new step has been made in the ongoing progress with the United States on the Economic Partnership Agreement and the creation of an investment fund for the reconstruction of Ukraine.”
