Trump’s tariffs are a longtime goal fulfilled – and his biggest gamble yet

Donald Trump’s politics have shifted considerably over his decades in the public sphere. But one thing he has been consistent on, since the 1980s, is his belief that tariffs are an effective means of boosting the US economy.

Now, he’s staking his presidency on his being right.

At his Rose Garden event at the White House, surrounded by friends, conservative politicians and cabinet secretaries, Trump announced sweeping new tariffs on a broad range of countries – allies, competitors and adversaries alike.

Nigel Biggar: Residential schools were no ‘atrocity.’ Just look at the evidence

When in February, Dallas Brodie, a British Columbia MLA, declared on X that the number of burials of missing children confirmed at the Kamloops Indian Residential School was “zero,” her fellow Conservative, Áʼa:líya Warbus, condemned her for “questioning the narratives of people who lived and survived … atrocities.” And the president of the Métis Nation of B.C., Walter Mineault, responded that the residential school experiences were “not objective truths for Métis people,” but their “lived experiences.”

Transgender Covenant School Killer Planned Attack for Years, Final Police Report Says

The transgender shooter in a mass killing in 2023 at a Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee, was a school alumnus motivated by a quest for notoriety, a final police report concludes. Three children and three adults died in the attack before police shot the killer.

Nashville Police said that Audrey Hale, 28, left behind notebooks, art books, and documents about her plot to attack the Covenant School. Hale, a female, was in part inspired by the 1999 Columbine mass shooting, the report said.

‘Dumbfounded and disgusted’: Canada’s car capital grapples with Trump tariffs

A long-awaited tariff announcement from U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday spurred confusion and concern in Canada’s automotive capital.

The president, in a lengthy Rose Garden address at the White House, provided some relief to Canada by leaving it out of a list of nations facing new reciprocal tariffs from the U.S.

But the Trump administration is maintaining previously announced tariffs affecting Canada, including up to 25 per cent levies on assembled vehicles and some automotive parts.

Youngsters are rejecting the Left’s culture wars

She can eat her hat later.

Generation Z, that enigmatic demographic of men and women born between 1997 and 2012 or so, have been presumed to hold wildly progressive views. In the stereotype of public imagination this is – or has been – a group that will go to the wall for net zero, dump a partner if their views on gender politics give them the “ick”, or leave any job that has the temerity to demand their presence in the office.

Except it may not be true. A growing mass of evidence suggests that far from the Leftie snowflake cohort of lore, Gen Z are disparate in their politics and care about the same things older generations do – jobs, houses, security – more than culture wars or social issues.

Jesse Kline: Mark Carney’s five-year plan for Soviet-style housing

If we look past all the name-calling, scandals and competing tax cuts, this election fundamentally comes down to one question: do Canadians trust the Liberals to do now what they have failed to do over the past decade? Judging by the party’s newly released housing plan, the answer should be a resounding “no.”

Toronto Police Association Asks Carney, Poilievre to Provide Stance on Bail Reform, Gun Buyback

The Toronto Police Association has sent letters to the federal Liberal and Conservative leaders to find out their positions on “major” public safety issues such as bail reform and the federal gun buyback program.

Much of the electoral campaign has so far revolved around responding to U.S. tariffs and building the Canadian economy, while the police association said community safety remains a priority and “can never be an afterthought.”

PINDER: Carney, a climate-warrior first and always

By any measure, Mark Carney’s resume is impressive. Mostly from Wikipedia, he was born in 1965, the son of a high school principal. The family moved from the Northwest Territories to Edmonton where his father was a Liberal candidate in the 1980 Canadian federal election. His mother returned to university to pursue a career in education when Carney was 10. He has an older brother and sister and a younger brother.

Catholics Thwarting A ‘Black Mass’ Shows You Don’t Just Have To Tolerate Everything

Last week in Topeka, Kansas, the followers of Jesus Christ clashed with the slaves of Satan, and Christ won. A relatively obscure group called the Satanic Grotto tried to stage a “Black Mass” outside the Kansas State Capitol and was met by thousands of Catholic protesters who had no intention of standing by and allowing the devilry to proceed in peace.

‘This cannot stand in Canada’: advocates push Liberals to showcase ‘zero tolerance’ after downplaying former candidate’s China bounty comments

Despite an eventual resignation, the initial decision by Liberal Leader Mark Carney to back a candidate after learning he had made light of a Chinese government bounty on the head of a Conservative rival has diaspora community advocates on the front lines of the foreign interference threat saying they’ve lost confidence in the party’s commitment to protect them from transnational repression.

Yet, while Paul Chiang, the incumbent Liberal candidate in Markham-Unionville, Ont., eventually announced late on March 31 he would be standing aside so as not to “cause a distraction in this critical moment,” his delayed departure and Carney’s initial confidence have already caused damage.

The most chilling thing about Southport? It could have been stopped

Good. Stewart presided over a truly catastrophic failure, leading to the murder of three young girls. But Prevent’s problems go much deeper than the man at the top.

It Was All Fake: Far-Left Billionaires Astroturfed the Tidal Wave of Early Enthusiasm for Harris

Last summer, after Old Joe Biden was forced out of running for reelection and Kamala Harris was anointed as the Democrat candidate for president, the far left’s propaganda arm (that is, the establishment media) made a massive push to make this failed vice president and longtime party hack seem new and exciting. A key part of this effort was a gaggle of young “influencers” who took to Instagram and TikTok with an enthusiastic pro-Harris message. It was sincere, it was spontaneous, it was exciting — or at least that’s what it seemed to be. Now (I know, knock me over with a feather) it turns out that the whole thing was faked: the entire Harris bubble was the artificial creation of a bunch of leftist billionaires.

Sounds vaguely familiar …
