A friend of Gretzky’s from the Phoenix area, where the hockey legend once coached the Coyotes and Barkley previously played for the NBA’s Suns, Sir Charles offered support to the NHL legend on TNT this week.

Canadians list cannabis legalization as Trudeau’s crowning success

The online poll, conducted and presented by the Angus Reid Institute, took place from March 4-6, 2025, among a representative randomized sample of 1,850 Canadian adults who are members of the Angus Reid Forum.

Just over half of Canadians (52%) listed cannabis legalization as an example of a policy success by the Trudeau Liberal government, higher than the public’s view of the Trudeau government’s handling of COVID-19 (47%) and the response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine (46%).

That’s one dope addled legacy for the Dope.

Trump says Ukraine ‘more difficult’ to deal with than Russia

US President Donald Trump has said he is finding it “more difficult, frankly, to deal with Ukraine” than Russia in attempts to broker peace between the two nations.

The US is “doing very well with Russia”, and “it may be easier dealing with” Moscow than Kyiv, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Friday.

Hours earlier, Trump had said he was “strongly considering” large-scale sanctions and tariffs on Russia until a ceasefire with Ukraine was reached.

Canada is seeking allies in its fight with Donald Trump. It’s not easy to find them

OTTAWA — It’s every country for itself in the era of Donald Trump.

Ottawa is seeking allies but allies are seeking cover. They see what’s going on, and undoubtedly hope they can avoid the same fate.

The unpredictable U.S. president hammered Canada and Mexico on Tuesday with punishing 25 per cent tariffs and 10 per cent on energy. Then the flip-flops began.

I think a more likely explanation is Justin is so full of himself, such an annoying woke scold he has rendered Canada into a pariah state. We don’t like him. No one else likes him either.

Donald Trump considers pulling troops out of Germany

Donald Trump is considering pulling US troops from Germany and redeploying them to Eastern Europe, The Telegraph can reveal.

Mr Trump is weighing up withdrawing some 35,000 active personnel out of Germany in a move that would further sour US-Europe relations.

The US president, who has repeatedly warned that Europe must commit more to its defensive capabilities, is becoming increasingly frustrated that the continent is “pushing for war”, sources close to the administration said.

Terry Newman: Mark Carney’s plan for global climate domination

Mark Carney’s greatest skill appears to be his remarkable ability to find a soft landing when things get complicated. His most recent exit was on Jan. 15 from GFANZ, an organization he founded and co-chaired which is now being investigated by the U.S. House Judiciary Committee for allegedly violating antitrust laws by pressuring companies to adopt net-zero goals. Whatever political motivations may be behind this probe, it indicates a major decline in popularity for the kind of climate-focused agenda Carney had been pushing.

Trump seeks to negotiate nuclear deal with Iran, avert military clash

President Donald Trump said he sent a letter this week to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, expressing his desire to negotiate a nuclear deal but reiterating the prospect of a military attack.

“I’ve written them a letter saying, ‘I hope you’re going to negotiate because if we have to go in militarily, it’s going to be a terrible thing,’” Trump said in an interview with Fox Business’s Maria Bartiromo recorded Thursday and partially aired Friday.

Hudson’s Bay, Canada’s Oldest Retail Chain, Nears Bankruptcy

Hudson’s Bay, the Canadian department store chain founded in 1670, is preparing for a bankruptcy filing within days, people familiar with the matter said.

The chain became a stand-alone business following its December 2024 deal to spin off its Saks Fifth Avenue subsidiary through a combination with Neiman Marcus Group. As part of that transaction, Saks acquired Neiman Marcus for $2.65 billion, establishing a new entity called Saks Global, which also owns Bergdorf Goodman. Saks Global isn’t expected to file for bankruptcy itself, only Hudson’s Bay will, the people familiar with the matter said.

WAR IS PEACE! Commander of NATO’s Multinational Division North in Latvia Says Peace In Ukraine Would Be Destabilizing

A few years ago, the scenario which Canadian and other NATO troops rehearsed in Latvia last week might have seemed unthinkable — even alarmist to the untrained eye.

On a mud-soaked, winter-scorched training range a few dozen kilometres outside of Riga, roughly 3,400 troops from 14 nations — under the brigade leadership of a Canadian commander — exercised how they would conduct a last-ditch defence of the Latvian capital.

… The Western military alliance has organized the defence of Latvia under a multinational division, which includes the Canadian-led brigade. The division is led by Danish Maj.-Gen. Jette Albinus, who also told CBC News in a recent interview that a ceasefire — or full peace settlement in Ukraine — would allow Russia to turn its full attention to the Baltic region.

If fellow NATO members feel that way then they should spend whatever it takes to maintain their war. But they won’t they want the US to pay the freight.

12 people in hospital after 3 suspects ‘opened fire indiscriminately’ inside Scarborough pub

On what was supposed to be a celebratory night, the grand opening of a new pub at Scarborough Town Centre on Friday was met with gunfire, sending 12 people to the hospital.

Toronto police said three masked male suspects, one armed with an assault rifle and the other two with handguns, entered Piper Arms at 520 Progress Avenue just before 10:40 p.m.

“They walked into the bar. They produced their guns, and they opened fire indiscriminately on the people sitting inside the bar,” Supt. Paul MacIntyre of Organized Crime Enforcement told reporters at the scene.

Toronto is such a 3rd World Craphole I’m not even going to suggest this is anything but gang related.

Buffy Sainte-Marie stripped of Juno, Polaris music awards

Buffy Sainte-Marie has been stripped of her Canadian music awards.

Both the Juno Awards and the Polaris Music Prize announced Friday they were rescinding the honours Sainte-Marie had received over the years, after the 84-year-old musician returned her Order of Canada earlier this week, saying she is an American citizen and had “made it completely clear” she is not Canadian.

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), which runs the Junos, said it made the decision in accordance with its eligibility requirements, following Sainte-Marie’s statements about not being Canadian.

LITTLEJOHN: Canada’s fairy tale view of northern realities

‘It’s a little bit too much like the story of Little Red Riding Hood, in which Canada fails to see the big teeth grinning at it.’

Canadians are rightfully angry. Our best friend has stabbed us in the back with tariffs and while we laughed for a while, we are now tired of the 51st state joke.

However, if Canadians want to preserve our sovereignty we need to set aside our emotions and face facts.

We cannot win a trade war. Or any kind of war. The US Gross Domestic Policy is about $25 trillion, and at $2.2 trillion, Canada’s is not even a tenth of that. In other words, the Doberman meets the chihuahua in the alley. Guess who wins that fight?

The perils and delusions of Europe’s new war economy

EU leaders can’t defend their own borders, let alone Ukraine’s.

The last time European states were embarking on rearmament, we were well down the road towards a world war. This time, it’s the war in Ukraine and the unravelling of the Western military alliance that are driving European rearmament. Suddenly, virtually every European head of state has become converted to the virtue of increasing defence spending and boosting the arms industry.
