Robert Eugene Crimo III pleads guilty to murdering seven people at Highland Park July 4 parade in mass shooting

The mass shooter who murdered seven people at a July 4 parade in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park pleaded guilty to the killings on Monday.

Robert Crimo, 23, withdrew his earlier not-guilty plea in a Lake County circuit courtroom; he admitted to killing seven people and injuring dozens more when he opened fire on a 2022 Independence Day parade in the Chicago suburb.

It was a stunning development moments before opening arguments in his trial on charges of murder and attempted murder.

Conservatives and Liberals hiring paid door-knockers ahead of election as volunteer numbers dwindle

With campaign volunteer numbers declining in each successive election and the next election fast approaching, some Conservative and Liberal candidates and MPs are currently in the process of hiring paid canvassers.

“It’s been proven time and time again…,” reads one recruitment email sent out recently to potential paid election canvassers by political strategy firm Right Recruiter, which is owned by veteran Conservative insider Steve Outhouse. “Knocking on doors and speaking to voters face to face wins campaigns. That’s why, with the federal election just around the corner, we are in need of committed campaigners to help support Conservative candidates!”

J.D. Tuccille: The real reason Canada won’t be the 51st state

U.S. President Donald Trump has a talent for stirring the pot, and he’s done so in two countries with repeated suggestions that Canada should become the 51st American state. Of course, making Canada one state is hardly fair — each province should get its own star on the flag if we’re going to move in that direction. But there’s no good reason to go down that path at all, given most Canadians’ rejection of the idea, and the havoc it would play with the fraught political balance in the United States. Besides, it’s likely that both Canada and the U.S are too big and too centralized as it is.

Trump slams Zelensky for saying the end of the Russia war ‘is still very, very far away’

KYIV, Ukraine — WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump slammed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday for suggesting that the end of Russia’s war against Ukraine is still likely “very, very far away.”

“This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelenskyy, and America will not put up with it for much longer!” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform.

Swedish police investigate suspected water pump sabotage

Swedish police are investigating a suspected sabotage incident on a water pump on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea.

Police told the BBC that the local government’s water unit received an alarm for a water pump on Sunday at 17:30 local time (16:30 GMT).

“Technicians found that someone has opened an electrical cabinet, pulled out a cable and thereby cut off the power to the pump,” police said. The technician put the cable back and reset the alarm at 21:30 local time, and the pump is now working.

Quebec bill on integrating immigrants upsets usual suspects

Municipalities, rights groups concerned about Quebec bill on integrating immigrants

MONTREAL — Quebec municipalities and human rights groups are voicing concerns about proposed legislation that would require newcomers to abide by a set of common values.

They say the new bill on cultural integration could foster anti-immigrant sentiment and impose a heavy administrative burden on communities.

The bill, tabled in January by Quebec’s right-leaning Coalition Avenir Québec government, would have immigrants adhere to shared values including gender equality, secularism and protection of the French language. The legislation is the latest in a series of bills that aim to reinforce Quebec identity, following the province’s secularism law and its overhaul of the language law.

Trump to discuss withdrawing military aid to Ukraine

Donald Trump could cut off the taps to Ukraine as he discusses cancelling military aid to the war-torn country during a meeting with his key advisers.

The president will meet with senior advisers, including Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth, to consider a range of options, including cancelling aid that has already been approved and funded by the Biden administration, the New York Times reported.

The meeting follows a shouting match between Volodymyr Zelensky and Mr Trump in the Oval Office on Friday.

Has Donald Trump triggered a golden age for drug trafficking in Canada and the world?

As Donald Trump has raged, Canada has reacted.

In December, the federal government pledged an additional $1.3-billion to combat fentanyl trafficking, with increased border security measures that include drones, Black Hawk helicopters and mobile surveillance towers.

In February, Ottawa appointed its first ever “fentanyl czar,” longtime senior Mountie Kevin Brosseau, to oversee our fight against the deadly synthetic opioid.

If so he’s done something that will make junior’s Beijing bosses happy.

They must need mops to clean up the mouth froth from the floor at the Star.

Miranda Devine: Zelensky was the true instigator of the Oval Office fracas — not an ‘ambush’ from Trump

Anybody who watched the entire Oval Office meeting between President Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky would know that it was not an “ambush” or a “setup” by Trump, as characterized by Democrats and malign media entities.

It was the opposite. If anyone came to that meeting in bad faith, it was clearly Zelensky, whose body language and attitude was negative from the start. Trump could not have been more cordial, having steered the complex negotiations with Russia and Ukraine to a first step where he believed peace was a real possibility.

Did Zelensky already have a deal with Starmer for Ukraine’s minerals?

Summit of the Lame Duck Dhimmis: Provocative Trump statements about Canada loom large as Trudeau meets King

King Charles has met Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, under the shadow of inflammatory statements made about Canada by US President Donald Trump.

Trump has repeatedly spoken of making the neighbouring country the 51st state of America. He has also vowed to impose new import taxes on Canada, which is one of his top trading partners.

Speaking ahead of his meeting with the King at Sandringham, outgoing PM Trudeau said he would discuss issues of importance to Canadians, including “standing up for our sovereignty and our independence as a nation”.

The King has also extended an invitation to Trump to visit him in what will be an unprecedented second state visit.

Charles won’t even stand up for his own people, then again neither does Trudeau. They have their submission to Islam in common.
