Brace yourselves: whatever crazy, awful things Andrew Coyne may have said to date, it’s only going to get worse

Brace yourselves: whatever crazy, awful things Trump may have done to date, it’s only going to get worse

Skate to where the puck is going, not to where it’s been. That bit of trite wisdom, attributed to Wayne Gretzky, might usefully be applied in assessing the risks posed by Mr. Gretzky’s political idol, Donald Trump.

Every time we think we have taken the measure of Mr. Trump, every time we think we have understood the depths of his depravity, the absoluteness of his nullity, the scale of the threat he represents – to American democracy, to Canada, to the peace of the world – he defeats us. He does or says something far worse than we had ever thought possible, even of him.

Carney’s questionable claims pile up as Conservatives go on attack with new ad

OTTAWA — Conservatives went back on the attack against Liberal leadership frontrunner Mark Carney on Thursday, releasing a short digital ad saying Carney “sold out Canada” by overseeing the move of Canadian investment house Brookfield’s head office to New York while the company’s chair.

The ad not-so-subtly implies that Carney hasn’t been upfront with Canadians about his business dealings, closing with the caption “SNEAKY” in all-caps, overtop a snippet of Carney smiling impishly during a recent appearance on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

“Islamonazis”? No, the Nazis were Islam lite

“Islamonazi” and “Islamofascist” reveal ignorance of Islam, which encompasses much more than Nazism or fascism ever could. Contrary to common assumptions, such terms downplay the nightmare that is Islam. It is easy to fall into seeing Islam as “just another religion” and perceive those of its adherents who wouldn’t hurt a fly as practising a milder variant of the religion of their more bloodthirsty brethren.

Some non-Muslims even do their “moderate” Muslim friends the favour of expelling their “extremist” counterparts out of the category “Muslim” and relegating them to a new category, “Islamists”, who, once so expelled, no longer practise Islam, but “Islamism”. In this simplistic mind-game, the proponents of “Islamism” have yet to identify the Islamist scripture that is not a Muslim scripture, an Islamist ritual that is not a Muslim ritual, the Islamist doctrine that is not a Muslim doctrine, the Islamist prophet who is not the Muslim prophet and the Islamist Allah who is not the Muslim Allah. When they “clarify” that Muslims want to live in peace, while “Islamists” want to take over the state, they merely confirm their ignorance of Islam.

The Shambles of St. Louis

Under Mayor Tishaura Jones, radicalism and corruption have decimated the Gateway City.

Shame has become an inescapable undercurrent in the daily life of St. Louis. Mayor Tishaura Jones, once celebrated as part of a progressive trio with former prosecutor Kimberly Gardner and former congresswoman Cori Bush, now stands as the last member of a vanguard whose radical policies have shadowed the city and region.

Though she calls herself a “reluctant leader,” Jones is no stranger to St. Louis’s infamously corrupt politics. Her father is a local political stalwart who propagated minority contracting as the city’s comptroller before resigning in disgrace and pleading guilty to federal tax fraud for embezzling from his juvenile nephew. In 2021, the younger Jones was elected as the city’s first black female mayor amid vainglorious hype about “black girl magic.” She previously served in the Missouri statehouse and as the city’s treasurer.

Canada could be barred from a future peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, expert says

OTTAWA — Canada may have difficulty taking part in a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine after a future ceasefire because it has clearly taken a side in the conflict, an international affairs expert suggests.

During a visit to Kyiv on the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion on Monday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau did not rule out deploying Canadian troops to the region as part of a possible peace deal.

But that decision isn’t entirely up to Canada.

Syria: Muslims Kidnapping, Possibly Torturing, Christians

Sadly, the persecution of Christians in Syria’s “Valley of the Christians” (Wadi al-Nasara), overwhelmingly inhabited by Greeks originally from Antioch, has been escalating.

After forces from the al-Qaeda affiliated Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) terrorist group conquered Damascus and overthrew Syria’s Assad regime in December 2024, they urged the residents of the Valley of the Christians to surrender any weapons they kept for self-defense, telling them that civilians would not be harmed. Since the jihadists’ takeover of Syria, however, around 500,000 Christians in the country have been faced with increased persecution and abductions.

Jesse Kline: How to build the Canadian economy without breaking the bank

In the weeks following U.S. President Donald Trump’s initial tariff threat, Canada has experienced a renaissance of hope that it could become the free-trading energy superpower it was always meant to be; that by dreaming big and diversifying our exports, we could punch above our weight in the global economy and create a more prosperous future for our children.

More Woke Craziness Uncovered by DOGE

The Trump Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) continues to uncover shameless misuse of our taxpayer dollars for insider payoffs and woke activism.

It really is stunning what our elected officials and unelected bureaucrats believe they have the right to spend our money on. Besides the Taliban condoms, European DEI musicals, and Iraqi muppets already exposed by DOGE, the new department led by Elon Musk has found yet more leftist nonsense and grift to cancel.

‘I don’t see how that ever is going to be possible’: EV skepticism builds amid tariff threats, headwinds

Despite increasing competition from Chinese automakers, disappearing rebates for electric vehicles, growing unease about the economy and other headwinds, one threat above all others is rattling the auto sector: United States President Donald Trump’s potential 25 per cent tariffs.

Cocaine found in White House could be Joe Biden’s, Trump says

An investigation into cocaine found in the White House is set to be reopened after President Trump repeated claims that it belonged to Joe Biden or his son, Hunter.

A small bag with a gram of white powder later determined to be cocaine was discovered in July of 2023 in a storage shelf near a public entrance to the West Wing that is commonly used for tours, prompting evacuations at the presidential home.

Trudeau billed taxpayers $1,515 a week for groceries, records reveal

OTTAWA — Grocery expenses for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau topped an average of $1,515 per week billed to taxpayers, according to newly released documents.

That works out to $157,642 in household food expenses over a two-year period — $76,214 in 2021-22 and $81,428 in 2022-23, the most recent years in which records were available from the Privy Council Office.

1500 bucks a week on chow? I guess his boyfriends get hungry.
