Trudeau government scrambling to kick-start buyback program for gun owners

OTTAWA—The Trudeau government is in talks with police forces across the country in an 11th-hour-effort to launch its weapons buyback program for gun owners before a potential spring election.

Although the program is underway for retailers, Ottawa’s scramble to kick-start it for individual gun owners has been complicated by a problem: who will collect the guns?

House Republicans demand UFO transparency

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and some of President Trump’s most vocal supporters in the House do not agree on much, but they are in agreement that the government is hiding critical information on UFOs — also known as unidentified anomalous phenomena or UAP — from the American public.

Schumer and key House Republicans say that the government must come clean on what it knows about this decades-long mystery, which has seen 80 years of highly credible, consistent, multi-witness reporting of objects exhibiting extreme performance characteristics.

JD Vance’s hard truths on migration have shamed Europe

Sometimes, it takes a concerned old friend to point out things you’d rather not face. Like the fact just a few glasses of wine in the evening have slithered into alcoholism. Or your tendency to be a bit smug and bossy somehow ended up with people being arrested for things you find offensive. That was the role played by JD Vance at the Munich Security Conference.

Amy Hamm: Courts must not allow Trudeau to get away with his self-serving prorogation

Final written arguments in the constitutional challenge of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s prorogation of Parliament are to be submitted to the Federal Court on Wednesday. Canadians must win this case. Our democracy depends on it.

“All I can say is I’m going to try my best to issue this decision before a point in time beyond which it would become moot,” said Federal Court Chief Justice Paul Crampton at the end of the two-day hearing last week, in reference to the March 24 end date of the current prorogation period.

As Zizian ‘cult’ leader is arrested, here’s what the vegan transgender group believes — and other disturbing deaths members are linked to

Mysterious alleged Zizian cult leader Jack Lasota was arrested alongside an accomplice in Maryland on Monday.

The elusive head of the largely transgender, vegan group had gone as far as to apparently fake his own death in 2022 to avoid scrutiny. However, at the time of Lasota’s arrest he was wanted in both California and Pennsylvania.

Taken into custody alongside Lasota were alleged followers Daniel Blank, 26, and Michelle Zajko, 32, a person of interest in the double murder of her parents – both fatally shot in their heads at their home on New Year’s Eve 2022.

Hydrogen planes were meant to deliver net zero. Those plans are being torn up

The push to develop hydrogen-powered planes was once a key part of the aviation industry’s bid to eliminate carbon emissions. But in the last few weeks, it has fallen suddenly and dramatically out of favour.

First, European airlines and manufacturers drastically downgraded their target for the contribution of hydrogen to their goal of reaching net zero by 2050.

Then, Airbus, the world’s biggest plane maker, put the industry’s most advanced programme for developing a hydrogen-powered passenger aircraft on hold.

Judge rules RCMP remarks racist, but B.C. pipeline protesters’ convictions will stand

A B.C. Supreme Court judge has found members of the RCMP made “grossly offensive, racist and dehumanizing” remarks about Indigenous women who were arrested in 2021 during a blockade of Coastal GasLink pipeline construction.

Justice Michael Tammen said in a ruling delivered in Smithers, B.C., on Tuesday that his findings of state misconduct don’t warrant a stay of proceedings against the women, but they and another protester will get a reduction in their sentences for criminal contempt as an “appropriate” remedy.

Tammen said audio recordings captured police laughing and comparing the women protesters to “orcs” from The Lord of the Rings.

... No remedy for the Orcs?

Facing Islamist threats, Bangladesh girls forced to cancel football matches

Asha Roy, 17, was excited to take part in a women’s football tournament, but her hopes were dashed as Islamists forced the organisers to cancel the match in northern Bangladesh.

Shortly before the game began earlier this month, the Islami Andolan Bangladesh group announced a protest rally against the event in Rangpur region, saying it was un-Islamic.

Fearing trouble, local police stepped in and the women’s team members were asked to return to their home for their safety.

GameStop looks to sell its Canadian and French operations — CEO cites ‘Wokeness and DEI’

Brick and mortar videogame retailer and popular meme stock GameStop (GME) announced Tuesday that it plans to sell its operations in France and Canada after an “evaluation of its international assets.”

The latest move follows years of declining revenues for the company. The retailer has reportedly shuttered more than 700 of its stores around the world since 2020.

The company announced the move in a brief news release on its website. While the statement did not provide any further explanation of the decision, its CEO appears to have taken issue with the “wokeness” of the two countries.

Won’t Get Fooled Again: GOP Moves to Impeach Judges Trying to Stop Trump Agenda

Even Margaret Brennan probably knows that an activist district judge in a Rhode Island backwater can’t stop a president from conducting his Article II powers. And so, this time, congressional Republicans aren’t falling for black robe tricknology and are moving to impeach two judges whose hackneyed and conflicted rulings have temporarily stopped President Trump’s agenda.

Canadian consumers – not businesses – feel full brunt of carbon tax: Poll

OTTAWA — Canadians feel businesses will feel little impact from an industrial carbon tax, new polling suggests.

In a new poll conducted by Leger on behalf of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF), nearly half of those polled say that businesses will pay little of the cost of an industrial carbon tax and instead largely pass that pain on to consumers.

That’s in addition to the quarter of respondents who say some of the cost of will end up coming out of the pockets of consumers, and just 12% who say businesses will bear most of the cost of a carbon levy.

BBC dutifully plugs Islamophobia report by Islamist front group

Anti-Muslim hate at record level in UK, report says

Anti-Muslim hate in the UK surged to record levels last year, an organisation tracking Islamophobia has found.

Almost 6,000 reports to Tell Mama were confirmed by it as anti-Muslim incidents, more than double the number two years ago, with men targeted more than women for the first time since the charity was founded in 2012.

In its report the organisation said there had been a “surge in rhetoric that falsely portrays Muslims as terrorists or terrorist sympathisers” following the Israel-Gaza conflict and Southport murders.

Is Pierre Poilievre truly pivoting his message, or is something else going on?

OTTAWA—Pivot? What pivot?

That was the message Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre projected Saturday at a patriotic, campaign-style rally that framed the Conservatives as the party of “Canada First.”

In doing so, Poilievre rejected the notion that his party was officially abandoning its relentless crusade against the “carbon tax” to take on the more immediate threat posed by U.S. President Donald Trump. Instead, he suggested protecting Canada’s interests has been his core message all along.
