Mater Si, Magistra No Redux

American Catholics should ignore the Pope’s hypocritical guidance on immigration.

The thousand or so citizens of Vatican City remain exclusively Catholic. If the smallest country in the world can decide to limit citizenship on the basis of religion without committing a collective sin, why cannot other countries restrict immigration for reasons important to their citizens, too?

Time to Pull the Plug on “Environmental Justice”

Biden’s agenda was really a way to funnel billions of dollars to progressive activist groups.

On his first day in office, President Trump signed an executive order rolling back DEI policies across the federal bureaucracy. Moving almost as quickly, Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency investigators set off a firestorm by exposing the dubious spending priorities of USAID and other federal agencies. Now the White House is starting to dismantle the Biden administration’s vast “environmental justice” apparatus. Last week, Environmental Protection Agency administrator Lee Zeldin placed 160 employees in the agency’s Office of Environmental Justice and External Civil Rights on paid leave. The move leaves “the environmental justice program at EPA on life support,” that office’s former deputy assistant administrator, Matthew Tejada, told NPR.

This unusual leadership race has seen the main challengers pivot to confront the existential threats to the Canadian economy lobbed by U.S. President Donald Trump.

The dismantling of a malevolent empire

USAID is only one outpost of a corrupted humanitarian establishment.

In the past couple of weeks, devastating information has erupted into the public domain detailing the malign activities of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The Trump administration has effectively shut USAID down by freezing its existing foreign assistance programs, worth around $70 billion per year, and putting the agency under the oversight of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio as acting director.

Canada’s Costly Interprovincial Trade Barriers

In the words of former Bank of Canada governor Stephen Poloz, Canada’s failure to remove interprovincial trade barriers is like “free money lying on the sidewalk but nobody will bend over and pick it up.”

U.S. tariffs, the Bank of Canada estimates—if they do come in their threatened 25 percent form on all Canadian products—would wipe out 3.4 percent to 4.2 percent from Canada’s GDP. Removing interprovincial trade barriers, meanwhile, could increase GDP by 3.8 percent, according to a Deloitte Canada analysis using International Monetary Fund findings.

HYSTERICAL: CBS Compares Potential Ukraine Peace Deal to 1938 Hitler Appeasement

Justin has love in his eye.

Our colleague Curtis Houck’s earlier writeup of the new but not improved CBS Evening News suggests that the ongoing turmoil is driven by the newscast’s new format, editorial choices, and anchor delivery. Tonight’s report on efforts to end the war in Ukraine confirms that thesis.

Watch as anchors John Dickerson and Maurice DeBois open the newscast with an introduction to the Ukraine story…

LILLEY: Carney, like Trudeau, downplays fentanyl crisis

Mark Carney told an audience of supporters in British Columbia that fentanyl isn’t a crisis in our country.

The Liberal leadership contender, and likely next prime minister of Canada, was giving a speech in Kelowna the other day when he turned to the issue of dealing with Donald Trump.

Since late November, Trump has been demanding that Canada do something about the fentanyl crisis, claiming the drug is flowing south from Canada into the United States.

Not surprising given the LPC is a branch plant of the CCP.

The Real Reason the Elites Were So Taken Aback by Taylor Swift Getting Booed

Like all of you, I was amused by the sight of Taylor Swift getting booed at the Super Bowl. I thought it was a nice little jab at the Establishment, i.e. the little people telling the self-declared elitists that they’re not as popular as their sycophantic groupies tell them they are. It was peaceful and harmless. Leftists shoot you in the back as you’re leaving a hotel; conservatives boo you.

Munich attack perpetrator Farhad Noori acted according to the teachings of the murder cult of Islam

A man suspected of attempted mass murder after a car was driven into a crowd in central Munich has been named as Farhad Noori, a competitive bodybuilder with tens of thousands of followers on social media. The authorities say they believe the car-ramming was motivated by Islamism.

Thirty-six people were injured — including a child aged two who suffered critical injuries — when a car was driven into a trade union rally in central Munich. The ramming is suspected to have been deliberate.

A Trump peace deal on Ukraine would signal his plans for the rest of us

So, just like that, the fate of a nation is decided. After three years of bloody warfare Ukraine may finally have peace, something it desperately needs. But how, and on what terms? If Donald Trump gets his way, which is very likely, it will be imposed from above, with conditions highly favourable to the country that started the war in the first place.

The amateur historians out there can’t quite decide if this is Trump’s “Munich” (i.e. a sell-out of a small country to an aggressor, à la Neville Chamberlain’s deal with Hitler in 1938 to dismember Czechoslovakia) or his “Yalta” (the summit meeting in 1945 where the victorious American, British and Soviet leaders divvied up Europe into spheres of influence).

Chernobyl radiation shield hit by Russian drone, Ukraine says

A Russian drone attack has hit the radiation shelter protecting Chernobyl’s damaged nuclear reactor, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

The overnight strike at the nuclear plant, which is the site of the world’s worst nuclear accident, caused a fire that has since been extinguished, he added.

As of Friday morning, radiation levels inside and outside Chernobyl remain normal and stable according to the UN’s nuclear watchdog (the IAEA).

War crime?

Could Trump tariffs cause COVID-19-like run on toilet paper? Leading Canadian producer thinks so

Americans could face toilet-paper shortages and price hikes if U.S. President Donald Trump makes good on his threat to enact sweeping 25-per-cent tariffs on all goods from Canada and Mexico, this country’s leading maker of bathroom tissue is warning.

Trump‘s State Department to Designate Specific Cartels as Foreign Terrorist Groups

The Trump administration is preparing to designate a series of Mexican drug cartels and two from Central and South America as foreign terrorist organizations. The move comes as Mexico continues to experience unprecedented levels of violence, including the widespread use of landmines and improvised explosive devices, despite empty government claims that crime has decreased and impunity has ended.
