Southport families: We’re looking for light in the darkness

The parents of Bebe King and Elsie Dot Stancombe want the world to know what they were like — their joy, jokes and dreams — as they relive that awful July day

Elsie Dot Stancombe and Bebe King never knew one another, but their parents believe they were alike and could have been friends. They use the same words to describe their daughters: confident, happy, emotionally intelligent, enthusiastic, affectionate. Both girls cared deeply about others.

SHOCKA! Muslim – Jewish Relations In Canada Considered Bad By Many According To Poll

OTTAWA — As conflicts continue to erupt around the globe, a new survey suggests that Canadians are anxious about relationships between groups here at home — particularly between Muslim and Jewish Canadians.

The survey of 1,578 Canadians, conducted by Leger Marketing for the Association for Canadian Studies between Jan. 17 and 19, 2025, asked respondents for their perceptions of relations between Muslim, Jewish, Indigenous, white and other Canadians.

Across Canada, 43 per cent of respondents said the relationship between Muslim and Jewish Canadians was “bad.”

As expected the Islamist apologists are out in force …

Deborah Lyons, Canada’s special envoy on combating antisemitism, said in a media statement that public perceptions of the relationship between Canadian Muslims and Jews don’t always reflect real life. “In truth, these communities share far more in common than many assume, including resilience and perseverance in combating hate and discrimination,” Lyons said.

“This may indeed be what Canadians think, but it reflects a false and widespread misconception that Israel-Palestine is fundamentally a religious conflict between Jews and Muslims, rather than a political issue about human rights and international law,” Bueckert said.

John Fetterman: Democrats may not win back white men

Democratic Senator John Fetterman has claimed that it may not “possible” for the party to win back white men.

In a new interview with Puck’s Tara Palmieri, Fetterman offered a stark assessment of the Democrats’ ability to regain support among white male voters. Asked about how the party could win white men “like himself” back, Fetterman responded: “I’m not sure if that’s possible, to be honest.” He then warned that support among that demographic had been “seriously eroding for a while”. What’s more, “In some cases, people don’t even want to say it publicly […] but they just feel like the other side seems to be saying, ‘Men are the problem.’”

Canada vs Elon Musk: Targeting the world’s richest man has its risks and rewards

As Canada and the U.S. careened toward a trade war this past weekend, Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, found himself in the crosshairs.

First, Liberal leadership candidate Chrystia Freeland proposed slapping 100 per cent tariffs on cars made by Tesla Inc., Musk’s electric vehicle company. “We need to be very targeted, very surgical and precise. We need to look through and say who is supporting Trump and … make them pay,” she said in an interview with The Canadian Press.

Stretched defence budget put towards ‘woke’ rally car mudflaps

Defence Secretary ‘speechless’ at MoD splashing out £5m on electric racers as he strives to cut out waste

Cash from the stretched military budget was splurged on sponsoring a “Formula Woke” racing team, an audit of defence spending has revealed.

Taxpayers’ money meant for front-line troops was instead used to emblazon the Ministry of Defence’s logo on the mudflaps of an electric rally car.

John Healey, the Defence Secretary, has now cancelled the £5 million contract with McLaren after being left “speechless” by the “waste”.

‘Should I just laugh?’: Energy experts question Freeland’s pledge to push LNG

OTTAWA – Liberal leadership candidate Chrystia Freeland’s pitch to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) to allies is drawing skeptical reactions from those who say her government neglected the sector over the past decade.

The former finance minister’s policy statement on jobs and growth, released on Feb. 5, includes a pledge to “seize the opportunity to make Canada an energy superpower, from powering our grids with hydro to exporting liquefied natural gas to our allies.”

BERNARDO: Crisis control and the Liberal leadership race

Justin Trudeau’s time as Prime Minister is marked by strategic alliances and policy shifts with a single goal: to keep him in power.

His political maneuverings are finally running out of steam and, with disastrous approval ratings, deepening economic hardship, and a string of scandals, even the party he brought back from the dead is preparing for life after Trudeau.

Trump Is Changing the World Order With Unprecedented Speed

… Undocumented immigrants in some communities are skipping work and keeping their children home from school on concerns about Trump’s efforts to ramp up deportations. In Dallas, teachers are reporting to their labor union that some students have stopped attending classes, particularly at high schools, said Rena Honea, president of Alliance/AFT, the largest teachers’ union in Dallas. At one area high school, just under half of students were absent on Monday, for a total of roughly 900 who stayed home, one teacher said.

Trump Doubles CBS Lawsuit Damages After 60 Minutes Releases Unedited Harris Transcript

President Donald Trump’s legal team added new claims to its lawsuit against CBS News on Friday after 60 Minutes released the unedited transcript of former Vice President Kamala Harris’s interview that aired a month before the election.

Trump sued CBS in October for engaging in “partisan and unlawful acts of election and voter interference through malicious, deceptive, and substantial news distortion,” arguing the interview’s deceptive editing made Harris look more favorable. The $10 billion lawsuit was filed five days before the election. Two days after the transcript’s release, Trump doubled the damages incurred to $20 billion.

USAID Funneled Nearly $800 Million To ‘Gender Transformative’ Global Censorship Group

America’s foreign aid agency, USAID, has given nearly $800 million to a group that has pushed censorship and suppressed “heteronormativity” across the globe, according to documents reviewed by The Federalist.

It keeps getting worse – the US Treasury issues ONE BILLION a week in suspect payments and that’s a conservative estimate.

The Great Climate Fear Factory

If you found a worm in your sliced bread you would be horrified. You would probably share photos and outrage on social media and return the loaf to the shop you bought it from.

Consider then that mealworm powder has just been approved by the European Union as a novel food ingredient and is now legally allowed to constitute up to 4% of food products like bread, biscuits, cakes, cheese, pasta and potato-based snacks.

But why mealworms? Why bread? And why now?

A 22nd-century history book on our ‘fascist’ age

Yesterday, I watched an X video of a maybe 20-something woman berating me as a Trump voter for ignorance (vincible or invincible, she couldn’t decide).  I was told that future history books would tell us how “evil” these years were in the United States.  It would not “be about Democrat or Republican, conservative or liberal, but quite literally of right versus wrong.  It is about having morals or not.”  That I had, as a moral theologian, apparently not noticed that was a wake-up call.  I was grateful but scared to learn I live in such apocalyptic times.
