We need to stop wetting ourselves about the weather

You may have seen the glorious painting, Flaming June by Frederic Leighton, showing a sleeping woman in an orange dress. Samuel Courtauld once called it ‘the most wonderful painting in existence’. But if it were to be painted today, I doubt whether the sensual masterpiece would be given the same name. Or, if it was, it might be given a trigger warning. The eco-activists wouldn’t be impressed: ‘June’s “flaming” because of climate change, you irresponsible boomers – let’s chuck some soup on it!’

Trump’s First ‘Hundred Days’: The ‘Greatest’ in History?

Love him or hate him, Trump’s political comeback and his early executive actions make him an historic figure.

Ever since Election Day 2024, various supporters and conservative journalists have been voicing the prediction that President Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office will be “the greatest ever.” Former aide Steve Bannon has prophesied for months that Trump’s start will be “the most aggressive” rollout since FDR’s first presidential term in March 1933. The New York Post went even further on Inauguration Eve. With visions of a new Camelot, the newspaper headlined that Trump’s second term promises to inaugurate “a golden age in the U.S.” As if on cue, President Trump used the same phrase in his inaugural address on January 20.

Come April 30, Donald Trump — and countless allies — will compare his opening salvo favorably with the achievements of FDR and LBJ.

Canada Is A Failed State and Mark Carney is BlackRock’s Bankruptcy Trustee

25% tariffs will ruin us. The tariffs mean one million small businesses – all which sell to the U.S. – will contract and many will close their doors. And then Trump, as he promised the unions, will pull “our” auto industry. Then we’re done.

Who is to blame for this?

Is Trump the new McKinley?

President Trump has indicated he wants tariffs on a grand scale, and that the McKinley presidency is his model for doing so

Why’s that important?

McKinley saved America with his responsible attitude and protection-minded tariffs, and Trump could do the same

Fear grips DC as Musk gains access to sensitive Treasury Department payment system that controls $5TRILLION

Elon Musk has gained access to the Treasury Department’s payment system, which controls trillions of dollars of government funds that go to programs like Social Security and Medicare.

Fear gripped Washington DC this morning as it emerged that Musk had forced out a top civil servant after he refused to allow the billionaire access to the payments system.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent gave Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) the green light to have full access to the payments system, according to The New York Times.

Many are scared with good reason I bet!

Wall Street Journal editorial calls Trump tariffs ‘dumbest trade war in history’

US business leaders are offering a mixed reaction to steep trade tariffs that Donald Trump’s administration has imposed on Canada, Mexico and China, as the editorial board of the Wall Street Journal called it “the dumbest trade war in history”.

Donald Trump hit Canada and Mexico with a 25% tariff on imports, and China with 10%, on Saturday in a move that launched a new era of trade wars between the US and three of its largest trading partners. The tariffs against Canada exclude oil and energy products.

And very few cuss words was spoken

Whenever I had to assemble furniture Kath would always warn anyone within earshot that “There will be cursing”.

And there usually was. Tonight only a few crossed my lips as I worked on an Ikea cabinet kit. The Great Sort dictated the addition of sensible storage.

Xavier was a danger to us both being simultaneously curious and fearful of the “new stuff” while getting underfoot in hazardous fashion.

Funny thing. My knee has been acting up for the past week or so and I thought I might be pushing it to assemble the cabinet tonight. Oddly all pain disappeared once immersed and only a minor ache persists.

Thank you all for listening to my gibbering and yes assembling Ikea cabinets late on a Sunday evening is a bit odd I suppose.

Trump Moves the Overton Window on Gaza

A new strategy: more land for more peace.

President Donald Trump hasn’t just shifted the Overton Window, the zone of what’s understood to be possible in politics; he’s blown it wide open. It’s now the Overton Vista. As the close Trump ally Marc Andreessen declared on January 25, “The last week has totally reset my conception of what’s possible.” Coming from a tech bro steeped in Schumpeterian disruption, that’s saying something.

Bank on it: If the conventional wisdom thinks one thing, Trump thinks something else. Case in point: Gaza. In the wake of 15 months of carnage, the familiar assumption is that there will be some sort of “peace process,” as diplomats shuttle back and forth, securing a minimally worded agreement, to which the combatants are minimally adhered. Then comes the insertion of United Nations peacekeepers, and an international consortium of foreign-aiders, contractors, and perhaps even nation-builders.

CEO of Canada’s 2nd biggest company defends Trump’s tariff demands, slams Trudeau for not stopping trade war

The CEO of Canada’s second-largest publicly traded company says Canadians want their government to do all the things that President Trump is demanding — and slammed outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for not preventing the trade war.

Trump, 78, on Saturday, signed an executive order to slap 25% across-the-board tariffs on America’s northern neighbor, citing its failure to meet his demands on helping crack the fentanyl and illegal immigration trade.

Everyone should blame Trudeau. He is the author of this mess.

Donald Trump has ruptured the Canada-U.S. relationship. To what end? And what comes next?

Addressing both Canadians and Americans on Saturday night, at one of the most fraught moments in the history of relations between Canada and the United States, Justin Trudeau reminded listeners of John F. Kennedy’s words when the late American president addressed Parliament in May 1961.

“Geography has made us neighbours. History has made us friends. Economics has made us partners. And necessity has made us allies,” the prime minister said, quoting Kennedy.

Trudeau did not repeat the next sentence in Kennedy’s remarks: “Those whom nature hath so joined together, let no man put asunder.”

Justin Trudeau is not a Canadian patriot.

He is a stupid man driven by delusions of grandeur who has destroyed the fabric of our nation by his ruinous policies.

Mass Immigration, economic destruction, the degradation of Canada’s heritage, petty tyranny and so much more have very nearly turned us into as Trump has aptly stated “not a viable nation”.

People will lose their jobs on both sides of the border but Trump will not even take Trudeau’s calls and I don’t blame him.

We need an election yesterday.

About mass deportations

Trump dropped a bombshell.

Was anyone in Israel paying attention?

I noticed some coverage, but then the story dissolved out of sight (excepting Arutz Sheva). For good reason, such as…ain’t never gonna happen.

Not while Israel is moving in the opposite direction…and not while some Israelis stick to fantasies.

So it was only about a week ago when Trump offered Gazans a plan, which is to forget Gaza, vacate the place, for greener pastures. Ditto Palestinian Arabs in general.
