So Trump nixed your bullshit DEI job

Corporations are sick of diversity hacks

The buzzy Apple show Severance depicts a group of office drones trapped in a cubicle hell called Lumon Industries. It’s a workplace drama in which suspiciously little is revealed about the actual work done by protagonist Mark Scout (played by Adam Scott) and his colleagues. It appears to be a Sisyphean task of sorting random numbers — but we have no idea why, and neither do they. Do any of these people hunched over screens do anything of use?

Who took the napalm girl photo? A new film reveals bitter dispute

The photograph of Phan Thi Kim Phuc running from her burning village won Nick Ut a Pulitzer prize, but some contend a local freelancer was robbed of his credit

The image of a young Vietnamese girl, fleeing burnt and naked from an incendiary attack on her village outside Saigon on June 8, 1972, has become one of the defining photographs of the horrors of war.

Now, more than half a century later, the “napalm girl” photograph is the focus of a bitter dispute among some of the biggest personalities and institutions in photojournalism.

On one side are the many friends and supporters of Nick Ut, the Vietnamese-American photographer credited with taking the unforgettable image for the US news agency the Associated Press (AP).

Trump-Appointed Prosecutor Opens Review of Justice Department’s Jan. 6 Cases

WASHINGTON—A top Trump-appointed prosecutor has opened an internal review of the Justice Department’s decision to charge hundreds of Jan. 6 defendants with felony obstruction offenses in connection with the Capitol attack, according to people familiar with the matter.

Acting U.S. attorney Ed Martin in Washington, D.C., asked prosecutors in an email Monday to turn over files, documents, notes, emails and other information related to the cases, the people said, which included charges against some of the most violent rioters at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

But wait there’s more!

Ex-UN official from Montreal nabbed by FBI for alleged role selling Chinese weapons to Libya

The FBI has arrested and charged a former top UN agency executive from Montreal for allegedly attempting to broker more than $1 billion worth of illicit arms deals between China and Libya, Global News has learned.

“James” Kuang Chi Wan, who was a deputy director at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), was apprehended by the FBI after he stepped off a flight from Taiwan that landed at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Jan. 21, 2023, FBI documents show.

Trump’s aggressive rhetoric aims to reset the narrative on Canada

In December, after threatening Canada with crippling 25-per-cent tariffs, Donald Trump posted an AI-generated image of him bizarrely laying claim to the Canadian Rockies (though the Swiss Alps were pictured) and the Maple Leaf flag. Mr. Trump’s other statements that month left little doubt about the narrative he was spinning. Following a dinner with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who had gone to Mar-a-Lago to try to head off the tariffs, Mr. Trump seemingly demoted the Prime Minister, calling him the governor “of the Great State of Canada.”

Then, on Jan. 6, after Mr. Trudeau announced he would be stepping down, Mr. Trump’s language became more radical – “Many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st State” – as if annexation was a fait accompli.

DeepSeek: Chinese AI has sparked a $1 trillion panic – and it doesn’t care about free speech

Have there been human rights abuses in Xinjiang? Ask ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, and you’ll receive an unambiguous yes.

Put the same question to DeepSeek, a Chinese chatbot, and the answer is very different. “Allegations of human rights abuses are unfounded and politically motivated,” it says.

Its response is not unusual: chatbots are heavily muzzled in China, where AI companies are required to instill the “socialist values” of the Communist Party and are regularly tested by Beijing’s censors.

Christopher Dummitt: The Liberals are blocking Canada’s progress

The challenge for any new national Liberal leader isn’t just to distance him- or herself from Justin Trudeau — though that will be hard enough. The task is also to offer fresh energy and tap into the actual concerns of Canadians. Why on earth, after 10 years of Liberal rule, should voters go back to the same old bowl of soggy cereal?

To his credit, Mark Carney took a good stab at it in his “Daily Show” interview, where he came across as self-effacing, serious and even a little bit funny. But the task ahead — back in this country — will be trickier.

Some Liberals want election called before House returns on March 24

With opposition parties threatening for weeks to defeat the government, U.S. President Donald Trump proposing hefty tariffs on Canada, and the Liberals appearing to regain political ground, some within the governing party are pushing for an early election to maintain the momentum and enthusiasm sparked by the leadership race, even before a potential House defeat.

“A defeat within days of becoming prime minister would not be a great start for the new leader,” said one veteran Liberal familiar with internal discussions, in an interview with The Hill Times. “If the opposition parties are going to defeat us, why wait for it to happen?”

Hamas kills Arabs? No Jews no news

In September, the bodies of six hostages kidnapped during the Hamas attack on October 7 were found at the end of a tunnel in Rafah. The conscience of the “ceasefire” and “Free Palestine” was clear: the death of the six Israelis was “the responsibility of Benjamin Netanyahu” who did not want an agreement.

This time the executioners in the video are once again wearing Hamas uniforms, but the victims are six Arabs of Gaza. Six alleged “collaborators with Israel”. They were put against a wall and shot. The video, shared by the Gaza Now channel which boasts 1.7 million followers on Telegram, is titled “The moment of punishment of the agents of the Zionist occupation”.

There are no reports of complaints from the “special rapporteur” Francesca Albanese or the International Red Cross. No Jews no news?

But they released hostages so they’re humanitarians at heart!

Why Democrats Still Defend Illegal Immigration

Yogi Berra famously quipped, “It’s tough to make predictions, especially about the future.” In general, that’s true. Yet anyone familiar with the immigration debate can tell you how Democrats will react to any GOP attempt to pass or enforce laws aimed at controlling the border crisis. Who was surprised that majorities of congressional Democrats voted against the Laken Riley Act, or that blue state governors and mayors have vowed to resist the Trump administration’s effort to deport illegal aliens?

Why Chrystia Freeland and Mark Carney are Pierre Poilievre’s dream opponents

As the federal Liberal leadership race takes shape, it’s looking increasingly like a two-way race between Chrystia Freeland and Mark Carney.

With the Liberals lagging significantly in the polls, the party is clearly looking for a saviour. But with a shared elite pedigree and apparent inability to defend anything resembling a coherent progressive vision, both Freeland and Carney are uniquely ill-suited for these populist times.

Economic inequality is at a record high and home ownership is increasingly out of reach for most young Canadians. The public is searching for both answers and help.

Qatar’s ‘Day After’ Plan for Gaza: Keeping Hamas in Power

Why does Qatar, the largest funder and sponsor of Hamas, have such a strong desire to restore the Palestinian Authority (PA) to the Gaza Strip? To guarantee Hamas’s continued domination of the Gaza Strip.

Qatar has no problem with the PA, which was expelled from the Gaza Strip by Hamas in 2007, taking up its duties there again as long as Hamas is permitted to maintain its grasp on power and preserve its security and military forces and capabilities.
