Jeffrey Epstein’s ‘hell’ island — and the woman who exposed its secrets

Denise George, the 64-year-old former attorney-general of the US Virgin Islands, is sitting in a hotel room on the main island of St Thomas, looking out at a view of green hills and Caribbean sea. While the photographer takes her picture, she sways to music coming from the swimming pool below. Amid this idyllic scene it is hard to believe that this is the woman who, for the best part of the past four years, has been entrenched in a legal battle with the estate of the financier, paedophile and sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

Ukraine war: How Zelensky is grappling with Western war fatigue

Their relationships might be close, the handshakes might have been firm, but President Volodymyr Zelensky had to roll his sleeves up during his trip to the US and Canada.

The latter was the easier end. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau promised to support Ukraine “for as long as it takes” against Russia’s invasion, and he has cross-party support in that endeavour.

America’s pockets are deeper, but its politics are far more complicated.

President Zelensky secured another $325m (£265m) military package from the White House, but it wasn’t the $24bn biggie he’d been hoping for.

President Joe Biden: Stop the Second Armenian Genocide

After besieging and starving 120,000 Armenians of the South Caucasus Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) since December 2022, Azerbaijan launched a large-scale military offensive against Artsakh on September 19, subjecting the capital Stepanakert and other cities and villages to intensive fire using heavy artillery and drones.

Civilians, including children, are being killed and others seriously wounded. Thousands of Armenians who fled their villages and towns due to the Azerbaijani bombardments have become homeless.

German media report on fake Jewish organizations

For centuries, Jews have debated what it means to be one. One thing all Jews can probably agree on is that a connection to extremists with antisemitic views and aims to overthrow the German republic is a disqualifier.

But that hasn’t stopped some from trying.

At least 10 associations calling themselves Jewish received official, nonprofit status, only to be revealed to have links to Germany’s “Reichsbürger” (literally, “citizens of the German Empire”) scene.

Sikh groups ask Canadian political parties to present ‘united front’ against India

Two groups in the Canadian Sikh diaspora are calling for Canada’s political parties to “present a united front” on India after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a “potential link” between the shooting death of a local leader and the Indian government.

In a joint statement, the Ontario Gurdwaras Committee and the British Columbia Gurdwaras Council say that “Canadian parties of all stripes must be unequivocally clear” about their opposition to possible foreign interference relating to the death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June.

The Liberals and NDP already do present a united front against India, that’s the problem.

How about asking for a united front against foreign terrorists using Canada as a safe haven? Or is that racist?

Gangland Canada: Trudeau’s backyard global hub of 8 Indian crime lords

PANIC: ABC Hyperventilates Over Poll Showing Trump Beating Biden BIG

On Sunday, ABC News released a poll in conjunction with The Washington Post and the results were apocalyptically bad for Joe Biden’s reelection chances against former President Donald Trump. Aside from the Jimmy Carter-like disapproval ratings on the economy and inflation, Biden is now losing to Trump by 9 points in a head-to-head matchup. Of course, ABC’s This Week had a near-panic attack when reporting the numbers. It was fun to watch.

Is the housing crisis pricing out the skilled newcomers Canada wants to attract?

Ankita Goel was optimistic when she decided to leave her management consulting job in Mumbai in 2019 to follow her husband to Vancouver, where he already had a job in the tech sector.

Four years later, the cost of living in the city has her regretting her choice.

“Housing is unaffordable, groceries are going up, rent is going up as well, and it’s making me seriously consider moving out of Vancouver,” Goel told Cross Country Checkup.

The “Units of the Descendants of Nasser” group claimed responsibility for the balloon attacks on Friday.

Trudeau facing cold reality after lonely week on world stage

This week in New York, as he listened to questions from reporters, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s reliable smile began to fade.

Unsurprisingly, nearly all the questions were about India and the shocking allegation made by Mr Trudeau earlier in the week: there was credible evidence the Indian government had participated in the extrajudicial killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil, a Sikh activist whom India has accused of terrorism.

Delhi has denied having anything to do with the murder.

We Do Not Have a Broken Immigration System. We Have a Broken Enforcement System.

I am so sick of hearing that the United States has a “broken” immigration system. There is nothing wrong with America’s immigration system. It’s a system of laws passed by the people’s duly elected representatives that enables limited and orderly immigration. There are further limited exceptions for refugees fleeing legitimate persecution. It’s an honorable, decent, growth-enabling system.

Death threats, Jordan Peterson and me: Charlie Angus Speaks Of His Harrowing Experience

Death threats, Jordan Peterson and me: My journey into the world of Pitchfork Politics

I recently crossed a Rubicon in my political career. For the first time in 23 years of public service, I asked the OPP to come to my office to help answer the phones. My phone was ringing off the hook with threats of violence against me, my staff and my family. The messages came from a wide variety of people who were deep in the rage hole of anti-vax and world government conspiracy. The threat of violence was explicit.

Welcome to Canadian political life in 2023. And it’s not just politicians who face the threat. The intimidation is being used to target all manner of public figures. This violent intimidation is on rise because right-wing extremists know they can get away with it.

Biden Promised Zelensky Long-Range ATACMS Missiles: Report

President Joe Biden reportedly told Volodymyr Zelensky during a White House meeting this week that the U.S. will send Ukraine long-range ATACMS missiles, amid growing questions about the continued funding of the war.

In addition to the $325 million military aid package, Biden reportedly pledged during a meeting with Zelensky on Thursday to supply the war-torn country with ATACMS missiles. The long-range missiles, which can hit targets up to 190 miles away, would represent a significant upgrade for the Ukrainian forces, which currently only have missiles capable of striking at a range of around 150 miles.

A red line too much?

U.S. Provided Canada With Intelligence on Killing of Sikh Leader

American spy agencies provided information to Ottawa after the killing of a Sikh separatist leader in the Vancouver area, but Canada developed the most definitive intelligence that led it to accuse India of orchestrating the plot, according to Western allied officials.

In the aftermath of the killing, U.S. intelligence agencies offered their Canadian counterparts context that helped Canada conclude that India had been involved. Yet what appears to be the “smoking gun,” intercepted communications of Indian diplomats in Canada indicating involvement in the plot, was gathered by Canadian officials, allied officials said.

Catholic Priests Bless Same-Sex Couples at Cologne Cathedral

German Catholic priests performed a mass blessing of same-sex couples at the historic Cologne Cathedral on Wednesday (September 20th) evening in front of some 500 attendees, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported. The ceremony also doubled as a protest against Cologne Cardinal Rainer Woelki, who stands against the radical liberalization of the German Catholic church, and is also a sign of open defiance of the Vatican’s edicts.
