Grave offence

A graveyard is usually a place for peace and quiet reflection but the goings-on at a church in Ipswich are enough to wake the dead.

Couples are using the raised tombstones as a convenient platform for alfresco sex, according to Suffolk police. Other visitors are drinking, taking drugs and using the tombs as a table.

Doctor sues Queen’s University for allegedly pushing him out of job over his COVID opinions

When the frightening, frantic first waves of COVID-19 hit Canada in March 2020, Dr. Matt Strauss worked in intensive care at a Kingston, Ont., hospital and taught at Queen’s University medical school.

He volunteered for extra shifts at Kingston Health Sciences Centre to help with the crush of patients, but a much less dramatic development now anchors his public place in the pandemic: he started sharing his thoughts about pandemic response.

Trump says he will be arrested on Thursday in Georgia election case

Donald Trump has said he plans to turn himself in on Thursday to a court in the state of Georgia to face charges of election interference.

A judge in Atlanta who is overseeing the former president’s case has set bail at $200,000 (£157,000).

The agreement says Mr Trump can remain free pending trial so long as he does not attempt to threaten or intimidate witnesses.

Mr Trump denies 13 charges, including racketeering and false statements.

Let’s just rename Toronto DEI Death Camp No. 1

LILLEY: Yonge St., Wellesley, Churchill and more on city renaming list

Are we ready to give up Yonge St. in Toronto? The most famous street in the city is on the list of streets and places that should be considered for renaming.

The same city report that pushed forward the idea of renaming Dundas St. said that there were 60 street names, including 12 named for slave owners, which “are no longer considered to be reflective of the city’s contemporary values.”

White Japanese Man …

Travis Ikeguchi, 27, made anti-LGBTQ posts before shooting dead California shop owner Laura Ann Carleton over her Pride flag

Ikeguchi’s GAB – a blogging site often known for its right-wing users – page was filled with references to religion, anti-democracy, anti-police and references to defending himself.

‘America must repent for a lot of things we allow; abortion/baby killing, sexual immortality, pornography, same-sex marriages, LGBTQP/pedophilia, freemasonry, religiosity, politics, wars, colonialism, the federal reserve,’ he wrote in a post.

Letting go of China’s money – the price Canada must pay for its principles

They made Justin cry.

Remember the 1990s? It was an innocent time when globalization was lifting all boats. Massive, multilateral trading agreements were all the rage. And any trade disputes were modest irritations that could be smoothed over with a few glasses of chardonnay.

Fast forward to the 2020s, and everything has shifted. The brave new world of neoliberal economics has been rocked to its core. And now geopolitical tensions are sparking some very unpleasant shocks to global trade.

Council meeting in affluent San Francisco neighborhood descends into chaos as residents protest turning hotel into homes for 100 homeless people

A local council meeting in an affluent San Francisco neighborhood descended into chaos when hundreds of ‘rowdy’ residents began booing plans to place homeless people in a nearby hotel.

Crowds of angry Millbrae residents packed out their local community hall on Friday to protest ‘Project Homekey’ proposals to house 100 rough sleepers at the La Quinta hotel on El Camino Real, close to the city center.

So many people turned up that hundreds had to stand outside the 300-man capacity hall to hear proposals outlined by San Mateo County Executive Mike Callagy.

John Robson: By Visiting Beijing, Guilbeault Is Making Common Cause With Tyrants

If the Babylon Bee claimed Canada’s environment minister was an official climate advisor to the Chinese communist regime, you’d call it too heavy-handed for effective satire. When he really is on the executive committee of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development which our aid money helped found, you’d call reality too heavy-handed for effective satire.

What is Guilbeault thinking being the only foreign government official on this body? What is his boss thinking letting him? And what does the Politburo even want him for?

This shows how deep Trudeau has his head up Xi Jinping’s butt and the contempt he holds for Canada.

Angry Maui residents slam Biden, hold ‘no comment’ signs during president’s fire tour

LAHAINA, Hawaii — President Biden was greeted with middle fingers, chants of protest and signs that said “no comment” Monday as he arrived in Maui to tour wildfire damage after repeatedly declining to comment last week on the tragedy that killed at least 114 people.

A group of several dozen residents of scorched western Maui heckled Biden’s motorcade shortly after noon local time as it left tiny Kapalua Airport en route to the hardest hit areas of historic Lahaina, which was destroyed on Aug. 8.

The cruelty of Canada’s euthanasia policy

Its liberal Maid programme has been turned into a political weapon

With uncharacteristic humility, I would concede that a few positions I’ve argued fiercely in print might be viable on paper, but in practice are a disaster. The “war on drugs” being a fiasco, years ago I advocated the legalisation of recreational pharmaceuticals. But given the dirty, dangerous, dismal tent cities full of addicts in LA, San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland — which have all effectively decriminalised drug possession — it may be fortunate that glib journalists like me don’t control public policy.

Guy who won women’s powerlifting competition could be banned as Canada ordered to change its rules by international governing body

A transgender athlete could be banned from powerlifting after Canada’s union for the sport was ordered to align with the international governing body’s rules on transgender competitors.

The International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) issued the Canadian Powerlifting Union (CPU) with the ultimatum Monday after Anne Andres trounced her female competitors at an event earlier this month, smirking as she stood on the podium.

IPF rules state that competitors must prove their gender identity with government-issued ID and disclose their testosterone levels, mirroring similar policies by international sports governing bodies.

Poilievre Accuses Liberals of Using ‘Radicalization Rhetoric’ Against Dissenting Voices

“What I really worry about is the increased radicalization of rhetoric by Liberals, particularly Justin Trudeau,” said the Tory leader during a press conference in Ottawa on Aug. 21.

“The nastiness and meanness that they’re directing at people who disagree with their policies, whether it’s Trudeau’s nasty comments directed at Muslim parents, or whether it is him jabbing his finger in people’s faces.”

China’s shocking demographic decline just got worse

The country’s total fertility rate has fallen to a record low

The fall in Chinese birthrates might be the biggest story of the 21st century.

Unfortunately, the data — or lack thereof — has been found wanting. A must-read analysis by Liyan Qi for the Wall Street Journal points out that China’s National Bureau of Statistics “stopped releasing annual data on total fertility rate in 2017”.
