Manitoba RCMP say they have obtained video footage of the deadly crash between a semi-truck and bus on the Trans-Canada Highway on Thursday that killed 15 people and sent 10 people to hospital, saying the semi-truck had the right of way at the time of the crash.

Superintendent Rob Lasson with the RCMP’s Major Crimes section provided an update to the investigation on Friday, saying they obtained video footage from the semi-truck trailer of the crash, which occurred shortly around noon at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 5.

Canada needs legal tools to fight residential school denialism, report says

OTTAWA – Canada should give “urgent consideration” to legal mechanisms as a way to combat residential school denialism, says a new report from the independent special interlocutor on unmarked graves.

Justice Minister David Lametti said he is open to such a solution.

Kimberly Murray made the call in an interim report released Friday, just over a year after she was appointed to an advisory role focused on how Ottawa can help Indigenous communities search for children who died and disappeared from residential schools.

Orwell would blanche.

Something happened in the skies over Bad Axe on June 3 — but what?

Something happened in the skies over Bad Axe on Saturday, June 3.

Just exactly what happened may never be known.

Some people said they saw two fighter jets locked in a cat-and-mouse game with a disc-shaped object. Representatives from military air bases in the Midwest said they had no knowledge of any such incident, with one stating there were no aircraft like the ones witnesses described in the region at the time.

Senator Oh Arranging 5th Column of 50 Buses to Bring Protesters to Ottawa to Oppose Foreign Agent Registry on behalf of Red China

I plan to rent 50 buses. … Each can accommodate around 55 to 60 people, so with 50 buses, that’s 3,000 people,” Oh told his audience in Chinese at an event held at the Montreal Chinese Community United Centre (MCCUC), according to a video posted June 13 on Weixin, the Chinese version of WeChat. The video’s caption said Oh spoke “yesterday,” indicating the event was held on June 12.

WEF report admits digital ID could be used for ‘surveillance and persecution’

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has admitted in a new report that digital IDs are exclusionary by nature and can facilitate “the identification, surveillance and persecution of individuals or groups.”

In its June 2023 Insight Report titled “Reimagining Digital ID,” the WEF described the potential risks of the widespread implementation of a digital ID.

“Perhaps the greatest risks arising from digital ID are exclusion, marginalization and oppression,” the report warns.

Germany marks 70 years since anti-communist uprising

70 years ago an uprising of 1 million people in communist East Germany (GDR) was crushed by Soviet tanks. Today, Ukraine is fighting for its independence.

What does Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine have to do with the failed popular uprising in the communist German Democratic Republic (GDR), which took place on June 17, 1953?

Strictly speaking, nothing. But if you take a broader perspective, you will recognize similar motives at play despite the differences in historical circumstances — both on the side of the aggressors and on the side of the people fighting for their freedom and independence.

Study claims Christianity associated with belief in ‘conspiracy theories’

A new study, published in something called the Journal for The Scientific Study of Religion, claims that both Christian nationalism and biblical literalism are independently associated with a greater tendency to believe in conspiracy theories. More to the progressive point, that study purportedly found when people believed in both Christian nationalism and biblical literalism, their distrust of government officials increased significantly. Egads!

In other words, they were more astute and less naive.

‘Shells, drones — the Russians are throwing everything at us’

Ukraine’s counteroffensive progress in battle is coming at a price

It took only moments after the Ukrainian flag was hoisted over Blahodatne for the Russian shelling to erupt again. Soldiers dashed for cover behind wrecked buildings, in ditches and inside their prized American armoured MaxxPro vehicles as the fire rained down.

“They are throwing everything at us,” said Stepan, a former bus driver. “Shells, mortars, missiles, rockets and drones. They haven’t stopped.”

Oscars voters rip into ‘ridiculous’ new diversity rules for Best Picture

If it were released today, “The Godfather” would possibly have no chance of winning a Best Picture Oscar.

That’s because the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is beholden to new inclusivity standards.

Starting with the March 2024 awards, movies will not be considered for a Best Picture nomination unless they feature a lead or significant supporting character from an “underrepresented racial or ethnic group,” have a main storyline that focuses on an underrepresented group, or at least 30% of the cast comes from two or more underrepresented groups (women, ethnic minorities, LGBTQ or the disabled).

Europe Starts Looking to China

President Emmanuel Macron’s recent Politico interview from his return flight from China (where he spoke at length with Chinese president Xi Jinping) has triggered a wave of controversy. Macron asserted that “Europe must reduce its dependency on the United States and avoid getting dragged into a confrontation between China and the U.S. over Taiwan.” He warned that if Europe too quickly takes sides with the U.S. in such a conflict, then “we won’t have the time, nor the resources, to finance our strategic autonomy, and we will become vassals.” Cultivating a position of “strategic autonomy” for Europe requires reducing its dependence on the U.S. dollar as the primary currency of trade, as well as its dependence on U.S. energy and weapons. Instead, Europe must seek to develop its own industrial, military, and political independence.

Everything We Know About The Biden Bribery Scheme From The FBI Document

Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley and House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer of Kentucky dropped a bombshell subpoena last month demanding the FBI hand over a document alleging a bribery scheme between President Joe Biden and a “foreign national.”

On May 3, the pair of GOP lawmakers requested congressional access to an unclassified FD-1023 form, a document used by the bureau to catalog information from a confidential human source. The FBI record suggests President Biden took a foreign bribe during his time in the Obama administration.
