Canadian Political Leaders ‘Did Not Act’ to Resolve CCP Interference Compared to Australia: Report

While Canada and Australia have received similar intelligence that China is interfering in all levels of government, a new study says Canberra took actions to push back while Canadian political leaders “did not act” and allowed Chinese interference to flourish.

“In Ottawa, intelligence agencies reportedly found in 2017 that the CCP was interfering at ‘all levels of government’. In contrast with Australia, however, Canada’s political leaders did not act, and the problem of CCP interference continued to grow,” says a report compiled by China analysts John Garnaut, Matthew Johnson, Prudence Luttrell, and an anonymised researcher.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the vote later today on the Conservative motion calling for a new study into foreign interference will not be a confidence vote.

“It’s not going to be a confidence motion. Obviously it goes to how important the issue of foreign interference is,” Trudeau said on his way into a cabinet meeting on Tuesday morning.

Xi nixed it.

Governments and political leaders have managed to ignore the problem with impunity so far.

Will that finally change with the latest revelations?

Why Doug Ford’s government spends more than $6B/year subsidizing hydro rates

When Premier Doug Ford’s government tables its new budget on Thursday, expect to see more than $6 billion devoted to subsidizing hydro bills.

Although previous Liberal governments also spent taxpayer money on lowering electricity prices, Ford’s Progressive Conservatives have taken it to such a level that it is now one of the single biggest line items in the Ontario budget.

The 2022-23 provincial budget earmarked $6.3 billion for “electricity cost-relief programs,” nearly four times as much as the $1.6 billion Kathleen Wynne’s Liberals budgeted for such programs in 2018.

Xi Jinping said China was ready with Russia “to stand guard over the world order based on international law” as he arrived for a state visit to Moscow that comes days after Vladimir Putin was made the subject of an arrest warrant by the international criminal court.

The Chinese leader is expected to position himself as a potential peacemaker in the Ukraine war during his two-day visit to Russia – his first state visit since Putin’s invasion. For his part, the Russian president will be hoping to project unity in the face of western isolation, as the US condemned Xi for providing “diplomatic cover” for Moscow to continue to commit further crimes in Ukraine.

The rise of the Z stars indoctrinating a new generation of Russians

She doesn’t have the flowing locks, soaring voice, or radiant smile of Vera Lynn. But for Russian “turbo-patriots” who cheer Putin’s war with Ukraine, there’s a modern forces’ sweetheart every bit as inspiring: Yulia Chicherina.

Her dark, short-cropped curls often encased in a black balaclava, her guitar strung over military fatigues, she performs her self-penned songs to troops in draughty halls in occupied Ukrainian towns and forest clearings behind the trenches.
