Belgian buyer of Europe’s spare tanks hopes they see action in Ukraine

On the outskirts of Tournai, a sleepy medieval town in the gentle, Brueghelian landscape of the French-speaking part of Belgium, there is an unassuming grey hangar, barely hidden behind a fence. Inside are rows upon rows of German-made Leopard 1 tanks and other heavy fighting vehicles – some of the same types of weapons that top Ukraine’s military wishlist.

The hangar belongs to the Belgium defence company OIP and contains one of the biggest privately owned reserves of weapons in Europe. “Many of these tanks have been sitting here for years. Hopefully, now it is the time they finally see some action in Ukraine,” said Freddy Versluys, the head of OIP, as he toured the hangar.

“Here we have the 50 Leopard 1s,” he said, pointing. “We also have 38 German Gepard tanks, 112 Austrian SK-105 light tanks, and 100 Italian VCC2 and 70 M113 armour carriers.”

This is how you do it: Make woke academics live up to their own rules

… Smith isn’t just blowing smoke. He’s talking total war, including investigating the “morally superior” academics who have defamed his family: Satan worshippers, Marxists, people supporting mutilating children’s bodies, anti-free speech absolutists, and vaccine totalitarians.

In closing, Smith demands not only the return of the $51 million that the campus turned its back on when it defamed and rejected T.C. Williams but also “the other substantial gifts my family made to the University and the return of this money as well.”

Well played.

The UN’s racial hysteria

A new report claims black Britons live in constant fear of racism. This is nonsense.

The United Nations is in the grip of woke hysteria. For clear evidence of this, look no further than a recent statement by a group of UN-appointed experts on the state of race relations in the UK. These experts claim that black Britons are ‘living in fear’, due to structural, institutional and systemic racism.

‘Effectively a tool of Satan’: how the UK authorities were utterly terrified by TV

Forty years ago, the battle of early morning broadcasting came to a head. ITV lost, debuting its first ever breakfast show, Good Morning Britain, on 1 February 1983 – a full 14 days after the launch of the BBC’s Breakfast Time. But this was just a mere skirmish in a much bigger war – one that stretched from the 1950s until almost the 21st century. The battleground? How much TV should be allowed in Britain.

The conflict was fought between broadcasters, who wanted to make maximum use of a new medium, and politicians and moralists who feared that more TV would zombify the population and leave workplaces and schools empty as people stayed at home to slump in front of sets. For many decades, religious leaders argued that the box was effectively a tool of Satan.

The government wants you to own an electric vehicle — but who can even afford them?

As both the government and auto makers push to make car owners transition to electric vehicles, astronomical prices threaten to make that out of reach for many Canadians.

That means that while the federal government wants every passenger vehicle sold in Canada to be electric by 2035, unless the prices become more reasonable for the average consumer, it might not be a realistic expectation.

James Godfrey, general manager at Eastway Toyota and Lexus of Windsor, says electric vehicles — a promise on the near horizon of buyers everywhere — are sold at much higher price points than internal combustion engine vehicles or hybrids. And due to supply chain issues, he says, vehicle prices in general have seen a big jump in the last few years.

The CBC is running propaganda for the LPC’s zealous commitment to a dubious technology that auto manufacturers have begun speaking out against.

Inside the Catholic civil war

With Pope Benedict dead, the gloves are off

In the early hours of January 2, the fully robed body of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI was transferred from the little monastery in the Vatican where he had died on the last day of 2022 to St Peter’s Basilica. There is a photograph of his remains being lifted into a vehicle. It’s shocking, but not because it shows a dead ex-pope. It’s true that today’s megapixel cameras conveyed the waxwork sheen of the corpse in unnerving detail, but that was more obvious when Benedict was lying in St Peter’s (and, anyway, we British are squeamish because we don’t open the casket for mourners).

Canada Has Been Mismanaging and Underfunding Its Military for Years

Canada’s role in NATO is mobile Pronoun defense.

Every little bit helps when it comes to sending aid to Ukraine. Canada took that motto to heart when Defence Minister Anita Anand announced with great fanfare that Canada would be sending a grand total of four Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine. A little bit indeed. A veritable drop in the bucket for a nation facing an enemy in possession of thousands of battle-ready tanks.

Curtains for The Cackler? Washington Post Is ‘Worried’ About Kamala Harris

Many observers have noted that the sudden revelations about Old Joe Biden’s storing classified documents in his garage indicate that the people who are really running President Dementia’s administration have grown tired of their frontman. Even the New York Times recently signaled that it was ready to move on from Joe with a more-in-sorrow-than-in-anger lamentation about how much the documents scandal damaged the superannuated president’s future prospects. But the same elites don’t seem to be exactly thrilled with Kamala Harris, either. The Washington Post confirmed that on Monday with an article entitled “Some Democrats are worried about Harris’s political prospects,” which means that it’s the Bezos Post that’s worried. The subtitle? “At a pivotal point in Biden’s term, many party activists are not sure the vice president has shown she is up to winning the top job.” Looks like it’s curtains for The Cackler.

Activists demand justice after shooting death of double amputee by Huntington Park police

Activists outraged at the shooting death of a 36-year-old double amputee demanded justice and accountability Monday during a news conference.

The Coalition for Community Control Over the Police and the family of Anthony Lowe Jr. held the conference to bring awareness to Lowe’s death.

“He was loved,” Ellakenyada Gorum, a cousin said as she sobbed. “And it’s sad how these police are getting away with killing our African American people. Just getting away with it. He was in a wheelchair. What more could he do? What more could he do?”

Justin Trudeau’s Liberals are sliding in popularity: ‘These numbers should be a warning’

Trouble for Justin Trudeau’s government has often landed in the early weeks of a new year — Donald Trump, an unfortunate trip to India, a fateful cabinet shuffle, ministerial resignations and of course, three years ago, a global pandemic.

The first few weeks of 2023 finds the Trudeau government not in a crisis, but a definite slide, according to new polling from Abacus Data, which will be providing exclusive numbers to the Star starting this week.

Alec Baldwin formally charged with involuntary manslaughter, told cops he fired weapon: docs

Alec Baldwin has officially been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of “Rust,” officials announced Tuesday.

A damning document filed by New Mexico prosecutors claimed Baldwin had not been properly trained with firearms ahead of the movie, that he pulled the trigger of the gun and shortly after even told officers he had fired the weapon.

The Santa Fe County district attorney called his actions during the fatal shooting a “reckless deviation from known standards and practice.”

Is Germany becoming a ‘warring party’ in Ukraine?

Germany has decided to supply battle tanks to Ukraine. International law experts are now debating whether this makes Germany a party to the conflict with Russia.

After German Chancellor Olaf Scholz decided to send Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine last week following a long hesitation, the response from the Russian government was swift.

“Everything the alliance and the capitals of Europe and the United States do is perceived in Moscow as direct involvement in the conflict,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday, according to a report by the Russian news agency Interfax.

That’s exactly what Scholz has been trying to avoid: triggering an accusation from Moscow that Germany is now also a direct party to the war in Ukraine. Speaking with public broadcaster ZDF on Wednesday, he rejected any interpretation that Germany is directly involved in a war with Russia. “No, absolutely not!” he said. “There must be no war between Russia and NATO.”
