The Administrative State Can Put a Bug in Your Phone

A COVID contact tracing app brazenly violates Americans’ right to privacy.

In the age of cell phones and the internet, consumers often face a simple choice: convenience or privacy? Do we let Big Tech have access to our private communications and free email accounts because it’s so easy? Once you’ve said yes — and who among us has not? — it’s not a stretch to think that Big Data already has almost all your information, so why get picky at the next juncture?

When Journalists Become Speech Police

Too many in the media now seek to neuter free expression in the name of saving it.

Call it Cooke’s First Law: Whatever the story, however complex its details, members of the American press will react by announcing who must be forbidden to speak going forward.

That is what too many journalists are now — not firefighters, not mediators, not conveyors of vital information, but zealous obscurantists staffing would-be censorship agencies…

Slew of Unusual Adverse Events Becoming More Common After COVID Vaccine Rollout

If we go to a doctor or clinic for a vaccination, be it an influenza shot or a COVID-19 vaccine, we go with the expectation that it is safe.

We usually dismiss mild symptoms, such as headaches, fever, pain, and redness at the injection site, since we are typically informed of them beforehand and expect them to be transient in duration. Thankfully, most of the time, people recover from them and proceed with their lives as before.

Marriage of a 5-year-old girl in Pakistan has reignited debate over child protection

In October, two men in Pakistan’s Baluchistan province were arrested after police were tipped off that a five-year-old girl had been forced into a marriage contract.

The girl’s uncle said that a local man had insisted the girl marry his son, and forced her father to accept a marriage contract.

“We insisted that she is too young to contract a marriage,” the girl’s uncle told DW, adding that the exchange between the two men had been filmed and then reported to police.

Tehran Dangles the Samson Option Again

Like a one-trick pony, Iran’s ruling mullahs have played unpredictable so often that they have become predictable in their unpredictability.

Facing a nationwide uprising that seems to continue despite massive repression and shaken by the International Atomic Energy Agency’s unexpectedly tough stance on the never-ending nuclear dispute, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has ordered fresh use of an old recipe, which has two ingredients.

Plan to ban women from Australian national park sparks outrage

A plan to ban women from access to part of a New South Wales, Australia national park has caused uproar among local Indigenous women, who have branded the move “discriminatory.”

Wollumbin National Park, also known as Mount Warning, is located in the Tweed Shire in far north New South Wales, with the landmark attracting about 127,000 people annually.

Wollumbin Mountain was declared an Aboriginal Place above 2000 feet to the summit by the New South Wales government in 2014 to protect its cultural values and formally recognize it as a place of special significance to Aboriginal people.

No one saw that comin I bet.

Wellcome Collection closes ‘racist, sexist and ableist’ Medicine Man display

A museum in London is closing one of its main exhibitions following concerns over “racist, sexist and ableist theories and language”.

The Wellcome Collection says the Medicine Man display is ending after a 15-year run.

Founder Henry Wellcome, who died in 1936, collected more than a million objects to give an insight into global health and medicine.

I bet it closes due to boredom.

What role should police have in Toronto high schools?

Is there a place for police in Toronto high schools?

The subject recently came up again after York Memorial Collegiate Institute was in the news over reports of chaos in the school: massive brawls in the hallway, bathrooms used for drug deals and fights, and teachers being threatened and assaulted.

The racist faction kicked the cops out a couple of years ago because they interfered with the violence.

Iran demands the US is KICKED OUT of the World Cup after US Soccer Federation posted tweet of Iranian flag without Islamic Republic emblem

The US soccer federation displayed Iran’s national flag on social media without the emblem of the Islamic Republic, saying the move supports protesters in Iran ahead of the two nations’ World Cup match Tuesday.

Iran’s government reacted by accusing America of removing the name of God from their national flag and called for FIFA to kick the USA out of the World Cup with a 10-game ban from soccer. Tasmin news agency – associated closely with the Iranian regime – says Iran’s soccer federation will make the request to FIFA, soccer’s governing body.

Sabrina Maddeaux: Our ‘dysfunctional’ Access to Information system is feeding Canadians’ distrust

Canada has a trust problem, and it’s not one we can afford to overlook. While, for some, “trust” means little more than some vague feel-good vibes, it’s actually a foundation of any functioning society.

When trust begins to erode, it’s very difficult to stop the spread. Distrust may begin with one institution or political party, but it almost inevitably begins to consume others. It eventually reaches outside the political realm, affecting neighbours and communities. Recent polls show only one-third of Canadians believe most people can be trusted.

I don’t trust this article. At no point is the balkanization of Canadian society from mass immigration mentioned.
