Did Trump stumble into this Persona-Non-Grata’s ploy?

Why would a black guy befriend a white supremacist? Even if the two share the same Jew hatred, there is a titanic chasm between them.

It has been reported that Kanye West and Donald Trump had dinner together at Mar-a-Lago. Kanye was not the only guest. Although he was the only authorized guest, he did not arrive alone. He took the liberty of bringing along with him the infamous white supremacist, Nick Fuentes.

Trump claimed later that he had never met Fuentes and knew nothing about his background. But the headlines coming out of the meeting with the two antisemites, where one of whom was a white supremacist, may be very damaging to Trump’s ambition of emulating Grover Cleveland’s second, non-consecutive, successful run for the White House. As a result of the dinner’s reverberation, Trump may lose support among blacks, Hispanics, Jews and many independents who despise racism and bigotry, while providing fresh and broad exposure to Kanye, who would, later on, chew over the nature, the gist, and the back-and-forth between him and Trump.

Trudeau government unveils long-awaited plan to confront an ‘increasingly disruptive’ China

Canada’s long-awaited Indo-Pacific Strategy describes China as “an increasingly disruptive global power” on the world stage — a social and economic force that’s too big to ignore but is also increasingly focused on bending international rules to suit its own interests.

Using some surprisingly blunt language, the strategy says the Canadian government needs to be “clear-eyed” about China’s objectives in the Far East and elsewhere. It promises to spend almost half a billion dollars over five years on improving military and intelligence cooperation with allies in the region.

“China’s rise, enabled by the same international rules and norms that it now increasingly disregards, has had an enormous impact on the Indo-Pacific, and it has ambitions to become the leading power in the region,” says the 26-page document, which was provided to the media in advance of its formal release in Vancouver on Sunday.

This is all just smoke and mirrors, it’ll be business as usual for Canada’s China class.

From the Globe: This is a bit like a rapist wrapping themselves in the cloak of women’s rights.

Goldy Hyder, president of the Business Council of Canada, said the government’s new policy is based on a “realistic assessment of risks and regional tensions, with a candid recognition Canada must continue to work with China on global priorities such as emissions reductions.”

GUNTER: Tardy Trudeau shows contempt, again

It’s not as if Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was all that late for his appointment at the Rouleau commission on Friday.

No doubt, plenty of brides were later for their weddings this past summer than Trudeau was (approximately five minutes) for his testimony regarding his invocation of the Emergencies Act last February against the truckers’ convoy in downtown Ottawa.

Actress-turned-activist Alyssa Milano backed herself into a corner after she bragged about ditching her Tesla electric vehicle. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau makes the case for using Emergencies Act

Ottawa

We didn’t spend the last six weeks seeking answers about whether the invocation of the Emergencies Act was politically popular. A commission of inquiry was not probing whether it was effective in clearing Ottawa streets and preventing further border blockades.

Thirty days of testimony from politicians, police and protesters was meant to determine whether Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had the legal justification to use such a sledgehammer, suspending civil liberties, to break an occupation in the nation’s capital and ensure there would be no further attempts to block crucial commerce routes. Was there a threat to national security? Had all other enforcement avenues been exhausted?

Anti-lockdown protests spread in China as anger rises over zero-Wuhan-Flu strategy

Protests against China’s stringent Covid restrictions have intensified, as a wave of civil disobedience triggered by a deadly fire in the far west reached levels in the mainland not seen since Xi Jinping assumed power a decade ago.

At Beijing’s elite Tsinghua University, students shouted “freedom will prevail” and called for an end to lockdowns, while crowds also returned to Middle Urumqi Road in Shanghai for a second day, and pushed down pandemic barricades in Wuhan.

‘They’re nervous as hell’: Gun deaths highlight simmering traumas inside Toronto schools

In the halls at Woburn Collegiate Institute, students knew a fight was brewing before class let out at 3:15 p.m. on Halloween.

Outside, the anticipation was palpable as at least one teen pulled out her cellphone and started filming, her voice rising as at least four boys appeared to get into it — one backing through the parking lot with three others moving toward him. There was shouting. Some students seem to gather around knowingly as others headed home.

Then the shooting started.

After six weeks of Emergencies Act testimony, questions remain about legal advice and redactions

No redactions have evoked as much frustration as the government’s claim of solicitor-client privilege, which it used to hide legal advice it received before invoking the Act

OTTAWA — After six weeks and 76 witnesses, including the prime minister and much of his cabinet, public hearings on the use of the Emergencies Act are done, but some crucial questions remain.

What did the government hide behind document redactions, and what was the key legal advice cabinet leaned on to invoke the act?

Couple’s arrest in Sweden shines a light on Putin’s GRU web of spies

Sergey Skvortsov and Elena Koulkova “seemed like everyone else” until police swooped on their home on the well-to-do island of Varmdo

In the months before they stopped posting updates on Russian social media, Sergey Skvortsov and Elena Koulkova appeared happy with their life in Sweden. In one picture taken in 2013, they smiled for the camera as they danced together.

Skvortsov, 59, and Koulkova, 58, from Moscow, settled in Saltsjo-Boo, an affluent area on the island of Varmdo in the Stockholm archipelago, in 2015, having secured residency in Sweden. “They seemed like everyone else in the area, they chatted about gardening and always greeted us in a friendly manner,” one neighbour said this week.

Canadian military would be ‘challenged’ to launch a large scale operation: chief of the defence staff

OTTAWA – Canada’s military forces are “ready” to meet their commitments should Russia’s war in Ukraine spread to NATO countries, but it would be a “challenge” to launch a larger scale operation in the long term, with ongoing personnel and equipment shortages, according to Chief of the Defence Staff Gen. Wayne Eyre.

Eyre told Joyce Napier on CTV’s Question Period in an interview airing Sunday that while the forces in Europe are “ready for the tactical mission they’ve been assigned,” he has larger concerns about strategic readiness. He said there’s a lack of people and equipment, and further concern around the ability to sustain a larger scale mission in the longer term.

How Ukraine’s drone navy is menacing Russia’s superior Black Sea forces

New technologies are changing the balance of power and penetrating what should have been impregnable counter measures

It wasn’t the biggest bang of the war. But a sudden flash that briefly illuminated the Russian port of Novorossiysk on November 18 had a significance that went well beyond its blast radius.

The explosion is believed to have been caused by a Ukrainian uncrewed surface vehicle – maritime drones that are changing the balance of power in the Black Sea and could profoundly reshape the future of naval warfare.

The price tag for the inquiry probing the government’s use of the Emergencies Act hasn’t been finalized yet — but it could be roughly $18.8 million, according to the Privy Council Office (PCO).

A PCO spokesperson told CBC News that while the total won’t be known until the Public Order Emergency Commission completes its work, the federal government approved $18.8 million to cover its costs.
