Guilbeault: Canada will not agree to phaseout of fossil fuels in COP27 agreement … because the provinces will sue our butts off

Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault says Canada will not agree to include language calling for the phaseout of all fossil fuels in the final agreement at this year’s United Nations climate talks in Egypt.

The agreement from the UN conference in Scotland last year called for countries to move faster to get rid of coal-fired electricity plants that are not abated with technology to capture emissions.

‘No one left to fix things’: Twitter employees leave in droves after Musk’s ‘hardcore’ ultimatum

Hundreds of Twitter employees apparently quit Thursday after new CEO Elon Musk gave workers an ultimatum: commit to a “hardcore” work environment, or be fired.

The reported exodus threw Twitter into more turmoil and came as staffers at the social media giant were given a 5 p.m. Thursday deadline to sign onto Musk’s workplace pledge.

The deadwood are purging themselves. Good.

More than half of convoy donors who haven’t received refunds are Americans

More than half of the donors to the GiveSendGo convoy protest crowdfunding campaign who have not yet received refunds are Americans, CBC News has learned.

CBC analyzed documents tabled by the commission of inquiry into the convoy protest that paralyzed downtown Ottawa for three weeks, and the donations data made public when the GiveSendGo Freedom Convoy crowdfunding website was hacked.

That analysis shows that an estimated 59 per cent of donations — accounting for 46 per cent of the GiveSendGo Freedom Convoy money that was frozen by a Canadian court order — came from donors with postal codes indicating they lived in the United States. An estimated 35 per cent of the donations and 50 per cent of the frozen funds came from donors with Canadian postal codes.

Sam Bankman-Fried ex Caroline Ellison made ‘foray’ into ‘Chinese harem’ polyamory

Disgraced Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison penned graphic blog posts about polyamory and masochism before the implosion of her FTX-linked cryptocurrency hedge fund.

Ellison — who dated FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried — wrote candidly about her “‘foray into poly” on her now-deleted Tumblr account back in February 2020, according to the Daily Mail.

The post — along with a series of other sexualized entries — was unearthed by the tabloid just days after CoinDesk claimed Ellison, 28, and Bankman-Fried, 30, were part of a 10-person “cabal of roommates” that managed operations for FTX and Alameda from a luxury penthouse in the Bahamas. CoinDesk claimed the group “are, or used to be, in romantic relationships with each other.”

The top ten fascist universities in America.

In the last few decades since the conservative world began to sound the alarm about the disappearance of academic freedom and free speech on college campuses, the situation has grown increasingly dire. The already unforgiving one-party political climate on college and university campuses has grown exponentially worse. The few professors who have dared to challenge the precepts of Critical Race Theory or other unquestionable tenets of the leftist narrative have found themselves facing immediate disciplinary action and calls for their termination from the cancel culture mob.

Nothing to see here? More jab victims the MSM will ignore

BUT for the studied silence of the Times, Telegraph and the other leading media outlets about the mounting evidence of vaccine injury over the last 18 months, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) simply could not have sustained its Kafkaesque denial of its own Yellow Card report data. Until lockdown it would have seemed an absurd proposition that any journalist or newspaper would cover up a story, indeed a tragedy, of this magnitude. Yet this is the conclusion we are now bound to reach.

How students turned on the working class

Every idealistic student dreams of changing the world. In 1848, they actually succeeded. In urban capitals across Europe, revolutions broke out that year — with students playing a key role in many uprisings. That year launched a political alliance that has held for many subsequent social transformations: between young, radical bourgeois intellectuals — whether still studying or recently-graduated — and the industrial working class.

Microdrones: the AI assassins set to become weapons of mass destruction

We are entering the much prophesied age of the killer robot – but do we really know what we’re unleashing?

Drones are in the news again, but not as we have come to know them. In August, Britain announced it was sending 850 Black Hornet “microdrones” to Kyiv for use in close-quarters combat.

The idea was (before the spectacular Russian collapse in recent weeks) that they would lend Ukrainian troops a crucial edge in the vicious urban fighting that was expected as they sought to liberate their towns and cities.

These machines are a far cry from the large unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) associated with the war on terror, the ubiquitous Predator and Reaper drones that delivered death from the upper skies with almost god-like insouciance.

Paris Games mascot mocked for resembling female genitalia

The launch of a patriotic French mascot for the Paris 2024 Olympics has become an embarrassment after it was mocked for looking like female genitalia and turned out to be made in China.

The “mischievous” little personalities in the shape of the Phrygian caps worn by the revolutionaries of 1789 were launched on Monday, intended as a stylish break from the cuddly animal figures usually chosen to embody the games.

‘Freedom Convoy’ had to be removed to avoid major economic damage: officials …. but Statscan said the the economic impact was negligible

The ‘Freedom Convoy’ blockades at major border crossings across the country had to be removed quickly in order to avoid serious, long-term damage to Canada’s economy, finance department officials said Thursday.

The demonstration against COVID-19 public health measures in February saw major ports of entry in Ontario and Alberta blockaded, resulting in a daily trade loss of “around $56 million per day,” finance officials told the Public Order Emergency Commission in an interview, according to a summary.

I think I’ll go with the Statscan version

The economic nightmare that wasn’t? Border blockades had little effect on trade, data reveals

Despite the highly publicized blockades at Ontario’s Ambassador Bridge and Coutts crossing in Alberta, cross-border trade in Ontario and Alberta was up 16 per cent in February, compared to the same month last year, according to data from Statistics Canada.

And while some businesses were impacted by the blockades, the trade figures also raise questions about the government’s use of the Emergencies Act – a decision, in part, justified by “threats to (Canada’s) economic security” brought about by the blockades.

The joint statement followed the conclusion of the G20 summit held in Bali, Indonesia, where leaders discussed global challenges and coordinating policies in response, including to future pandemics.
