The number of reported deaths worldwide from COVID-19 was the lowest last week since March 2020 – a positive sign that the end of the pandemic that has killed at least six million people is in view, the World Health Organization says.

Globally, the number of new weekly deaths decreased by 22 per cent the week of Sept. 5-11 compared to the previous week, with just under 11,000 fatalities reported, according to WHO data.

Chad Bowie: It’s all about words. And Pierre Poilievre continues to choose the right ones

The words we choose matter. Words are how we communicate ideas, demonstrate priorities and show allegiance.

And words are also how we break through in the increasingly competitive marketplace of public attention, and win over hearts and minds. Words mean even more when the message we’re trying to deliver is complicated, complex, or just plain boring.

Swedish PM concedes election defeat to bloc including far-right Sweden Democrats

The leader of Sweden’s incumbent Social Democrats conceded defeat in the country’s knife-edge election on Wednesday, handing victory to a loose bloc of rightwing parties that includes the far-right Sweden Democrats (SD).

The prime minister, Magdalena Andersson, called a press conference at which she accepted defeat, while pointing out that the Social Democrats remained Sweden’s largest party with more than 30% of the vote, and that the majority in parliament for the right bloc was very slim.

When postal votes and those of citizens living abroad were counted on Wednesday, a loose coalition of the SD and the three centre-right parties edged ahead to win a majority of three in the parliament of 349 seats.

King Charles’ outrageous list of daily demands revealed

From pampered prince to coddled king.

Although he was just named Britain’s ruling monarch last weekend, Charles III has been living like a king his whole life.

King Charles was reportedly nicknamed the “pampered prince” by his staff at Clarence House, where he lived with his wife Queen Consort Camilla from 2003 until he recently took the throne.

I believe Charles will enjoy a very short honeymoon.

Taylor Lorenz claims to oppose online harassment. During an appearance on MSNBC earlier this year, the Washington Post meme expert broke down in tears while discussing the “severe PTSD” she suffered as a result of the “horrifying” abuse she received from “the worst people on the internet.” After the segment aired in early April, Lorenz lashed out at the liberal network for emboldening her online critics.

Iran and Russia have been strengthening their alliance recently, growing it gradually to such an extent that the Wall Street Journal wrote on August 27 that the two countries were “forging tighter ties than ever,” as both countries face continued international isolation.

In recent months, Russia and Iran have signed a multitude of agreements, especially in trade, oil and gas, and military cooperation.

“Ghost gun” rules sure didn’t last long, did they?

When President Joe Biden announced he was going to direct the ATF to enact new rules on unserialized firearms–so-called ghost guns–many heralded it as the end of this horrible scourge that is plaguing our cities.

Of course, these firearms appear to account for just a small fraction of firearms in criminal hands, but that’s irrelevant to these types of people.

In the world of politics, Pierre Poilievre has got it

When considering Pierre Poilievre, you need to distinguish between the incoherence of some of his policy and this fact: In politics, either you’ve got it or you don’t. He’s got it.

As a populist politician, the new Conservative Leader often appeals to emotion over reason. Firing the governor of the Bank of Canada, as he proposes, will have no impact on inflation. Compelling universities to protect free-speech rights would simply mandate what already exists.

Canada’s federal holiday to mourn the Queen leaves a patchwork of confusion

On Canada’s east and west coasts, schools and government offices will be closed on the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral. But in the two most populous provinces, employees will be at work – unless they are federal employees. Banks and other federal industries, however, have been given the option to close – or to remain open.

On Tuesday, the prime minister, Justin Trudeau, declared 19 September a federal holiday. But the ensuing chaos of determining who qualifies for the holiday has left workers confused across the country.

Why do business owners get to decide whether you take this as a holiday.

The FBI Hired Trump ‘Pee Tape’ Liar as an ‘Informant’ to HIDE Him From Us

The special counsel investigating the Russian Collusion hoax alleges in a court filing that a main source for the fake “Steele Dossier,” which the FBI used to get a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance (FISA) warrant to spy on the Donald Trump campaign, was himself a paid informant for the FBI. The possible reason behind it is even more shocking.
