The fall of Los Angeles

The ‘progressive’ elites have run the city of the future into the dirt.

For much of the 20th century, Los Angeles symbolised the future. Over the course of the century, the population grew 40-fold to nearly four million people.

But now, for the first time in its history, the population of Los Angeles is in decline, falling by 204,000 between July 2020 and July 2021. LA was once a magnet for investors. But recently many of the area’s corporate linchpins – including aerospace giant Northrop Grumman, Occidental Petroleum and Hilton Hotels – have left, taking with them high-paying jobs and philanthropic resources.

Conservative Party of Canada announces Pierre Poilievre as new leader

Conservative members pick MP Pierre Poilievre to be their new leader

Conservative Party of Canada members have chosen Ontario MP Pierre Poilievre to be their new leader.

In the end, it wasn’t much of a contest. Poilievre easily clinched victory with an impressive 68.15 per cent of the vote on the first ballot — a decisive result that positions the right-wing and populist politician to lead the party into the next general election.

The campaign was nasty at times. Poilievre squared off against his main opponent, former Quebec premier Jean Charest, in a fight for the leadership and the party’s identity.

Guns bought through credit cards in the US will now be trackable

Credit card purchases of firearms in the US can now be tracked and purchases deemed suspicious can even be shared with law enforcement, according to a new measure approved by an organization that sets parameters for business transactions.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) voted in favor of creating a merchant code for firearms stores, according to Reuters.

Merchant codes are four-digit codes that categorize retailers across all industries; until now, gun purchases had been classified under “miscellaneous retail stores” or “sporting goods stores.”

Amid energy crisis, activists still opposing small module nuclear reactors

It has long since become obvious that the Biden energy crisis is not unique to the United States. Many nations, particularly in Europe, are running up against similar threats to the sustainability of their energy grids. The reasons vary, with some being self-inflicted wounds in the name of climate extremism while others involve external factors such as the impacts of Russia’s war in Ukraine and the Kremlin holding oil and natural gas supplies hostage. No matter the cause, solutions are required and one that is getting a fresh look in all impacted areas is nuclear energy.

Trudeau Spending Risks Fueling ‘Inflationary Fire,’ CIBC Says

Economists are warning Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government against using windfall revenue to add to spending amid concerns about inflation.

The calls come as the government prepares to double federal goods-and-services tax rebates for six months and support Canadian households struggling to pay rent. The plan, meant to be announced Thursday but temporarily delayed by the death of Queen Elizabeth II, is in addition to refunds and cash handouts already distributed by provincial governments.

Millions of Californians like me are told there’s no energy left to charge the electric cars that could speed us away from wildfires

California is in the grips of a deadly crisis!

No, not the weeks-long 100-degree-plus temperatures blanketing the state.

Heat waves come and go.

I’m talking about something far more insidious. The state is being strangled to death in the clench of a ‘climate cult.’

A top scientific journal places political correctness above the search for truth

Nature Human Behavior, one of the most prestigious journals for social science research, recently published an editorial titled “Science must respect the dignity and rights of all humans.” Though short, the article generated tremendous pushback among academics and intellectuals concerned about the spread of social-justice ideology into science. Harvard psychologist Steven Pinker said the journal was “no longer a peer-reviewed scientific journal but an enforcer of a political creed,” while Greg Lukianoff, the CEO of the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, described the journal’s statement as “an epistemic catastrophe.” What did the editorial say?

EU Environmental Policies are Out of Control

… In Sri Lanka’s case, this was also one of the reasons for the country’s recent bankruptcy. The measure decimated its agricultural sector, which had previously been self-sufficient in rice production. Combined with irresponsible monetary policy, this led to high inflation rates, supermarkets running out of food, and large-scale protests that forced the president to flee both his palace and the country. In short, ESG is not exactly a resounding success.

This does not stop leftist politicians, like Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, from continuing along this policy path. He wants to drastically reduce the use of fertiliser by farmers, ignoring both the agricultural sector and some Canadian provinces, which have warned…

Canadian Conservatives look to populist to challenge Trudeau

TORONTO — Canada’s recently hapless Conservatives, losers of three straight federal elections that exposed divisions between their populist and more moderate factions, are poised on Saturday to elect a 43-year-old firebrand with a scorched-earth style and social media savvy as their new leader to take on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

All indications are that Pierre Poilievre has the contest it in the bag.

MANDEL: With Charles as king, the magic is gone

With sincere apologies to his beloved late mother, King Charles III is going to be a hard sell.

Elizabeth II was my Queen. She was the steadfast, elegant, dignified grandmother of our lives who earned our respect, and admiration, and for many of us, our love. A symbol of leadership and selflessness, she held herself silently above politics and never let slip her personal foibles.

By all means we should give him a chance but I suspect the die is cast and King Climate Scold will alienate and anger.
