SURREY, B.C. – Several commercial trucks and a military-style vehicle broke through an RCMP barricade on the Pacific Highway as they followed protesters marching to the border crossing at approximately 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Several officers were cut off from their colleagues by what Mounties described as a hostile mob. Hundreds of protesters celebrated on foot near the border crossing, with traffic at a standstill through a massive area of south Surrey.
Ont. reporting 1,540 COVID-19 patients in hospital, including 402 in ICU
The number of patients in hospital with COVID-19 has fallen to its lowest level in more than a month, according to the latest data released by provincial health officials.
There are now a just over 1,500 patients with COVID-19 receiving treatment in hospital, down from 2,230 one week ago. This number includes 402 patients in the ICU, about 80 fewer ICU patients than there were seven days ago. The province does not release detailed hospitalization data over the weekend and cautions that data is incomplete due to a lack of reporting from some hospitals.

Dismissed ‘Deltacron’ variant could be real
Health authorities in the UK have officially begun monitoring the so-called ‘Deltacron’ variant of the Covid-19 coronavirus that is thought to be a hybrid of the Omicron and Delta strains. The move comes after experts at the World Health Organization and elsewhere had dismissed the variant as a lab error last month.

My time in the Canadian capital was spent gathering information, specifically to document the successful, as well as the failed, tactics and strategies of the demonstration. My reticence over details is necessary because, whether through fate or my own persistence, I am now helping the central organization with some of their strategy, and anything that I disclose publicly could be used against them. But I can give a brief overview of what is happening here.
Officers from multiple police forces began advancing toward protesters on Sunday morning to break up a days-long occupation near the Ambassador Bridge border crossing in Windsor, Ont.
A group of protesters opposing pandemic-era laws such as vaccine mandates has been at the bridge since Monday, blocking what is typically Canada’s busiest border crossing. On Friday, a judge granted an injunction demanding that the protesters clear the bridge by that evening.

A police raid on the bridge blockade at Windsor, Ontario, failed to shut it down. With protesters in Ottawa also digging in, what will it take to get them to budge?
They arrived by the bus load – police in balaclavas and carrying long guns, ready to oust dozens of protesters blocking roads leading to the Ambassador Bridge.
There were pickups and SUVs festooned with Canadian flags, anti-vaccination slogans and anti-Trudeau epithets, as well as some heavy commercial trucks.
About 100 vehicles have been parked along the roughly 2km (1.25 miles) of road leading up to the bridge for almost a week.
After Premier Doug Ford declared a state of emergency, hundreds of Ontarians took part in the freedom convoy protest in Toronto this weekend.
True North’s Harrison Faulkner attended the protest to get their thoughts on the Ontario government’s decision.

One of the interesting aspects of the ongoing Freedom Convoy protests in Canada, aside from the underlying complaints of the protesters, is the curious way that the media in both that nation and the United States have chosen to construct a narrative around the protesters. This is something that others like Tucker Carlson have been noticing and pushing back against. One of the most recent examples can be found in this “explainer” from NBC News published on Thursday evening. They have clearly chosen to lump all of the protesters together as some sort of Trumpesque, Canadian “far right-wing” splinter group of extremists. Unfortunately for NBC’s dogged reporters, examples of any sort of right-wing extremism are few and far between. Also, the poster child they selected to showcase the “harm” that the truckers are causing (a 26-year-old gay Russian immigrant) leaves much to be desired in terms of the impact the protesters are actually having on his life.
California would mandate that all businesses require their employees and independent contractors to receive the COVID-19 vaccine under legislation announced Friday by Democratic state lawmakers that was immediately criticized by Republicans as government overreach.
The great political realignment continues. The ruling class have coalesced — with the establishment right joining the bureaucratic left. HBO host Bill Maher tore into Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday over remarks that Trudeau has made in recent days about trucker protests that have been taking place in his country.
Maher’s criticism of Trudeau comes after Trudeau has called the truckers that are protesting a “fringe minority” that holds “unacceptable views.”

Ilhan Omar’s notorious “Islamophobia” bill doesn’t ever get around to defining what “Islamophobia” actually is, and there is a reason for that: the word is used not just to refer to vigilante attacks against innocent Muslims, which are never justified, but to any and all criticism of Islam, including honest discussion of the motives and goals of jihad terrorists. The insidious aspect of her bill is that it could be used to shut down such discussion and leave us unable to speak publicly about a real threat. An indication of how this can happen has just come from last month’s Sundance Film Festival, which featured a documentary about jihadis getting rehabilitated and has had two staffers resign so far over its unpardonable “Islamophobia.”
