France seems to be witnessing more gratuitous attacks and stabbings. On Boxing Day afternoon, in the middle of central Paris, a man went on a knife rampage through the metro. He struck out at random, stabbing women on station platforms at République, Arts et Métiers and Opéra. There was screaming. There was blood. One of the victims was pregnant. There was no argument, no robbery, and no apparent motive. The attacks were entirely indiscriminate.
After each assault, the attacker didn’t run, he boarded the next train. Passengers recoiled. Doors closed. The train moved on. Station by station, through some of the busiest metro stations in the city, he continued.

A Somali-run day care in Minneapolis is claiming somebody broke in and stole “important documents” as the national spotlight shines on the unfolding multibillion-dollar fraud scandal involving Minnesota human services.
Nasrulah Mohamed, manager of Nakomis Day Care Center, told reporters that a suspect entered through the kitchen at the rear of the facility, damaging a wall and breaking into the building’s office, sometime on Tuesday.
He said the alleged prowler stole “important documentation” including children’s enrollment information, employee documentation and checkbooks.
Talk about hard luck!

While it helped Prime Minister Mark Carney win this year’s federal election, “Elbows Up” was a Liberal slogan masquerading as a serious economic strategy that turned into a fiasco.

Israeli officials report that three countries have agreed to Washington’s request to participate in a postwar Gaza “International Stabilization Force” (ISF). The identities of all three have not been disclosed, though Indonesia may be one of them. Earlier reports also identified Pakistan as a possible contributor to the ISF.
In addition, Pakistan does not officially recognize Israel, and has never designated Hamas as a terrorist organization. It may well have an interest in making sure that Hamas can continue its “resistance” — meaning terrorism.

Transit ridership never recovered from the pandemic. We asked why — and what could bring them back
Toronto in February 2020 hustled and bustled in blissful ignorance.
The roads were clogged with cars, and the trains were full of people. The TTC logged 10 million weekly trips, a healthy bump from the year prior.
Then, in the span of two weeks, that motion shuddered to a halt.
In the five years since the COVID-19 pandemic stalled Toronto, much has recovered. Car congestion, to drivers’ chagrin, is back.
The TTC is an open sewer.

2025 marked a year of arguably unparalleled success for the NewsBusters team seeing as how, along with chronicling the best and worst in daily and long-term liberal media bias, we helped see to a successful conclusion a decades-long fight to defund National Public Radio (NPR) and PBS.
In addition to President Trump’s successful media lawsuits and changes inside CBS News, the NewsBusters team was proud to take credit for the suspension of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel plus the May 2026 cancellation of CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Homicide charge laid after man injured in Toronto encampment fire dies: police
An encampment fire has led to a death and a charge of first degree murder, Toronto police said Wednesday.
Crews responded to a fire outside a church on Dec. 26 near Yonge and Charles streets.
Toronto police allege a man set a tent and mattress on fire before throwing items on top of the tent to feed the flames.
This guy is a native and has a years long record I’m betting he’s already bailed.

When the ball drops in Times Square tonight in New York City, revelers will scream “Happy New Year,” kiss the girl (or guy) next to them, blow horns, and prepare for the traditional drop of a massive “tidal wave” of 3,000 pounds of confetti as it’s released from the rooftops of eight surrounding buildings at the stroke of midnight.

OTTAWA — The Canada Revenue Agency says it’s owed $10.35 billion in COVID-19 benefits.
Nina Ioussoupova, a spokesperson for the agency, says that as of Nov. 30, it had disbursed $83.5 billion in COVID benefits to Canadians, including $45.3 billion for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, the financial support program known as CERB.
Ioussoupova says the CRA began sending recovery letters to individuals with debts related to COVID-19 benefits in 2023

Ratings on the latest episode of Netflix’s Stranger Things took a downturn this week after the character Will Byers came out gay to his friends in a dramatic reveal.
Released on Christmas, the Season 5 Vol. 2 episode of the hit sci-fi show has been getting review bombed on various platforms, per Variety.
“The recent episodes have dragged the season’s fan-driven Rotten Tomatoes score from the 70s down to 56 percent, a stark decline from the show’s previous seasons,” noted the outlet. “For reference, the Season 4 Popcornmeter sits at 89 percent, Season 3 at 86 percent, Season 2 at 90 percent and Season 1 at 96 percent.”
Netflix has ruined many good programs with unwanted awkward woke eruptions.
I haven’t watched Stranger Things, this probably means never but I feel sorry for the many fans who were let down.

The Toronto Maple Leafs were in second-last place, slugging it out with the Detroit Red Wings for bragging rights as the worst of the worst in the hapless Norris Division.
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and The Golden Child ruled the Christmas box office. It was 1986, a different time and a very different place.
A great closure rate but I doubt that makes a difference to victims unable to adequately defend themselves.
Another take on murder rates …

Thieves used a large drill to break into a safe at a high street bank branch in western Germany and steal an estimated €30m (£26m; $35m) in cash and valuables, police have said.
A police spokesman likened the break-in to the Hollywood heist film Ocean’s Eleven, telling AFP news agency it was “very professionally executed”.
During the heist at Sparkasse savings bank in the city of Gelsenkirchen, thieves broke open more than 3,000 safe deposit boxes containing money, gold and jewellery.
Gelsenkirchen Police said they became aware of the crime after a fire alarm was set off in the early hours of Monday morning.
Sparkasse? I got no sympathy for anyone who puts their valuables in the “Light Your Farts On Fire Bank?”

Ontario is paving the way for Premier Doug Ford’s controversial “special economic zones” in 2026 amid other changes that include making life tougher for impaired drivers and easier for skilled workers moving here.
Stepping up the push to fast-track development to offset economic damage from U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs, new regulations taking effect Jan. 1 let the province bypass local and provincial rules for “trusted proponents and projects.”
But critics are worried protections for the environment, workers, wildlife, endangered species, Indigenous communities and their treaties will be watered down in what they dub “no law” zones.
