The doctor is mad

The American Medical Association has just issued a health equity guide

Ihave been writing a lot about the politically inspired perversion of language. The name “Orwell” crops up in any such discussion, as does the word “Newspeak,” that twisted mode of language that Orwell outlined in the appendix to Nineteen Eighty-Four. The goal of Newspeak, Orwell said, was to replace standard English with a sharply diminished patois whose linguistic poverty was its prime political advantage. By reducing the suppleness of language, the elites who controlled society hoped also to reduce dissent — not only the activity of dissent, but also the thoughts and emotions that guided it.

A Swedish Pastor Converts to Islam

This is the way the world ends.

In his 2015 novel, SubmissionMichel Houellebecq depicts a France of the near future in which a Muslim party has gained political power and, virtually overnight, transformed the Republic into an Islamic state. The change takes place with remarkable smoothness, and with little resistance, as our protagonist, a Paris professor, and his male, gentile colleagues quietly convert to Islam to keep their jobs. (The women and Jews, of course, are summarily dismissed.)

It’s a powerfully chilling read.

‘Something Has Gone Wrong With Our Economy’: Economist on Canada’s Growth and Competitiveness

Canada’s competitiveness and economic growth are being hampered by restrictive policies and the government’s disinterest in fostering the wealth-producing business sector, an economist says.

“There’s an increasing feeling in this country that something has gone wrong with our economy, and in particular our business sector, that we’re just not as competitive on the world stage as we used to be,” Philip Cross, a senior fellow at the Fraser Institute and former chief economic analyst at Statistics Canada, told The Epoch Times.

France: Nationalism Makes a Comeback

Although the next French presidential election is months away, the way the media in Paris along with French chattering classes are behaving, one might think that we are on the eve of polling day.

Turn on any TV channel and open any newspaper and you are likely to run into oodles of speculation about the journey to the Élysée Palace.

One reason may be even the main one, for this premature interest is a 63-year old journalist who has cast himself as a modern version of the Prophet Jeremiah to depict gloom and forecasting doom for French democracy.

DEA Stopped Saying ‘Mexican Cartel’ To ‘Appease’ Mexico, Recently Retired Agency Officials Say

The directive for Drug Enforcement Administration officials to not use the term “Mexican cartel” came directly from the Biden administration to ease relations with the Mexican government, two recently retired DEA officials told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The DCNF exclusively obtained an email in August that instructed DEA officials to “now avoid saying ‘Mexican cartel’” when speaking with the media. The email was sent as drugs continued to surge across the U.S.-Mexico border.

Scottish govt puts tampons in men’s toilets

Period products are now being supplied to men’s restrooms visited by Scotland’s transgender civil servants, British media has revealed. The move has apparently been introduced by the cabinet to top up its equality index.

The first country in the world that made sanitary pads and tampons free for all is now also providing them in the male lavatories of governmental buildings. “A varied selection” of traditionally female hygiene products are put in restrooms for men “in those premises where gender neutral facilities do not exist,” The Telegraph reported on Saturday.

The royal family is ‘frustrated’ after the Duchess of Sussex was forced to apologise for misleading a court

‘She’s been found out’: royal despair at Meghan’s U-turn

The dramatic twist in the Duchess of Sussex’s battle against a newspaper, forcing her to apologise for “misleading” a court, is just the tip of the iceberg, according to royal sources.

Meghan made a U-turn in court last week in her privacy case against Associated Newspapers, admitting that she had authorised an aide to brief authors on a flattering biography about the Sussexes. Harry and Meghan previously denied any collaboration with the authors of Finding Freedom but a source said “a lot more” could emerge on “what was briefed for the book” if the case proceeds.

‘It’s our lifeline’: the Taliban are back but Afghans say opium is here to stay

Despite talk of a Taliban ban, in Helmand’s poppy fields farmers and traders say they are not the only ones who depend on the drug to survive

The Taliban’s announcement that it plans to ban the production of opium in Afghanistan does not faze seasoned dealer Ahmed Khan*.

“They could not fund their war if there were no opium,” says Khan, who operates out of Baramcha, close to the border with Pakistan.

He has traded in the drug for a quarter of a century and is confident that the group cannot really afford for trade to stop.

“There would be a backlash from the poppy farmers, drug lords and the public if the Taliban bans the opium production. The Taliban has benefited the most from opium production over 20 years.”

Scam Alert: ISIS fanatics ‘try to firebomb’ Shamima Begum’s tent after she ‘angered wives’ by wearing make-up and trainers and denouncing the terror group

Shamima Begum has said that ‘she fears for her life’ after an arson attempt last week.

The 22-year-old jihadi bride was targeted by ISIS fanatics who firebombed her tent in the Kurdish-run refugee camp al-Roj in northern Syria.

Begum is allegedly the main target after denouncing the terror group as she pleads with lawyers to help her leave the camp.

I call bullshit.

‘A World Gone Mad’: Upscale LA Neighborhood Wrestles With Worsening Homeless Crisis

Abbott Kinney Boulevard is a picture-perfect hidden gem in the Venice neighborhood of Los Angeles, known for its boutique shops and locally-owned dining joints. The mile-long strip sings to the tune of upper-middle-class patrons who come to Venice Beach to soak in its peculiar rhythm. The neighborhood’s tight-knit community of homeowners who have lived in the area for decades are proud to reside in this unique nook of town.

But over the last year, the community within this stretch of Venice grew even closer over a common frustration: the growing homeless encampments.

What to Expect from the Biden-Xi Meeting – And It’s Not Good

Here is what we likely can expect from the upcoming meeting between U.S. President Joe Biden and Communist China’s President Xi Jinping. Climate change, yes. Human rights, not so much. Throw in a little trade but take out all references to the Wuhan-origin of the coronavirus pandemic. This will be a summit that majors in minors. It will have significance, but only because of what it fails to do rather than what it does.
