A man arrested outside the Library of Congress today, ranting about Biden and falsely threatening to have a bomb in his car, provided Wallace with the much needed fodder to fret that right-wing extremists were “the gravest” national security threat this country faced.
Lara Logan Tells Tucker: U.S. Govt. Chose Chaotic Outcome in Afghanistan
Fox News host Lara Logan said Wednesday that the U.S. government could have stopped the chaotic situation that has developed in Afghanistan if it had wanted to do so, suggesting the outcome was the result of intentional policy decisions.
“What they want you to believe is that Afghanistan is complicated. Because if you complicate it, it’s a tactic in information warfare called ‘ambiguity increasing,’” Logan, host of “Lara Logan Has No Agenda” on Fox Nation, the network’s streaming service, told Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
Logan said that whoever is “pulling the strings” in government intends for crises like the one in Afghanistan and along the U.S.-Mexico border to intensify even though officials claim there isn’t anything they can do.
An observation frequently attributed to Mark Twain, that “it is easier to fool people than to convince them they’ve been fooled,” is the most accurate explanation I can find of where we are today.
I will add this one caveat: it is easy to fool people only when they willingly choose to be foolable when they allow others to tell them what’s true and what’s not. Because it’s infinitely easier to do that.
…President Obama insisted that violent jihadism is not reflective of any authentic construction of Islam. President Bush insisted that freedom is the longing of every human heart. Neither of these things is true in principle, and the Taliban are demonstrative proof of their falsity.
The Taliban are scholars and students of sharia (Islam’s ancient law and societal framework). They know much more about the subject than Obama. And while it is obvious that many people long for things other than freedom, it is even more obvious that the Taliban know what is in what passes for their own hearts, and those of other fundamentalist Muslims, better than Bush ever could. As it happens, the Taliban abominate the Western ideal of freedom. It contradicts their basic conceit that the good life calls for perfect submission to sharia — the opposite of freedom.

Thirty years ago, anti-Semitic violence erupted in Crown Heights, a neighborhood of New York City, as an angry mob of largely black and Caribbean-American residents descended on Lubavitcher Hasidic homes, businesses, and individuals in retaliation for a traffic accident.
If you read the New York Times in the days that followed, you wouldn’t have known.
It wasn’t because the paper of record hadn’t covered the violence. They had. But their reporting and that of other influential papers at the time was entirely divorced from what we now know occurred, consistently overlooking or obscuring the anti-Semitic nature of the attacks.
I spent 600 hours listening in on the people who now run Afghanistan. It wasn’t until the end of my tour that I understood what they were telling me.
