Stringent gun control failed to prevent a firearm-based mass killing by terrorists that ended the lives of 11 innocents at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday evening.

Young people less trusting, poll finds

Disaffected Yutes.

Younger Canadians are generally less trusting than older people, according to a recent survey conducted by Leger for the Association for Canadian Studies.

Atlantic Canadians are the most trusting in general (71 per cent), while British Columbians are least trusting (51 per cent), says Jack Jedwab, president of the association.

“For several years we’ve been monitoring evolving rates of trust in peoples, nations and institutions,” Jedwab explains. With heightened degrees of polarization, especially along ideological lines, he says it’s vital to understand the extent this is accompanied by a breakdown in trust between people and within communities.

40-person Somali mob hacked 18-year-old to death in London – and the uncomfortable facts about a diaspora most tiptoe around

Somali Riot Hackney London

Donald Trump spat out the word like something rotten: ‘Garbage,’ he said. ‘They contribute nothing. I don’t want them in our country.’ His voice rising, his rage unmistakable, he railed against Somali immigrants in the United States.

It was a line designed to explode across the airwaves.

Trump wasn’t shouting into a void – he was pressing on a wound. In Minnesota, home to one of America’s biggest Somali communities, prosecutors are unpicking one of the largest frauds in US history.

The FBI says that during the Covid-era, the Feeding Our Future non-profit organisation – which claimed to be serving more than 40,000 meals to poor schoolchildren every week – siphoned off $250million (£187million) in grants and donations, and funnelled the money into luxury cars, houses and private bank accounts.

Donald Trump’s erratic, kleptocratic authoritarianism is a threat to our very existence. This is what Canada must do to survive.

We would like to begin, if we could, with a question of scale. Think for a moment of the sheer vastness of this land. Try to picture it all. The impossible greatness: from the Pacific forests, dense with unspeakable trees, to the grey greens of the Newfoundland coast.

Now look at a map. Think of what you see: A country so large it can at times seem more geological than political, like a fact written into the earth. Let the natural thought come then: Nothing this large could ever go away. And yet, we know now that it could, all of it, at any time.

Two-thousand twenty five was the year the inevitable died in Canada. Thanks to Donald Trump, we know that nothing about our country is guaranteed anymore, not our sovereignty, our democracy, our prosperity.

It seems the folks who most benefited when their “free trade” deals off-shored our jobs, fattened themselves on tax payer funded Net-Zero subsidies, imported cheap labour to feather their nests, and shamelessly discriminated against us because we were white are traumatized Trump has upset their apple cart. I could not care less for the fate of their Canada.

BLIZZARD: Toronto’s two useless TTC transit lines should have been subways

Back in the day when the Eglinton Crosstown and the Finch LRT were twinkles in the eyes of politicians, I said they should be subways.

Like the late Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, I believed in “subways, subways, subways.”

The week Trump turned his back on Europe

It was the rustle of paperwork heard around the world: a 33-page US security plan that upended virtually everything Europe takes for granted about its closest military ally.

In a new national security strategy report (NSS), the Trump administration painted an excoriating picture of a Europe in terminal decline and ruled by weak, corrupt elites.

“Civilisational erasure” loomed for the Continent, the NSS claimed, blaming centrist governments for their fixation on open borders, political correctness and censorship.

Tough love but someone had to do it and I include Canada among the deserving recipients.

‘Don’t Be Canada’: Journalist’s Book Examines How the Great White North ‘Did Everything Wrong All at Once’

Once a thriving nation, Canada has seen a steep erosion in prosperity and security in just 10 years, a slide journalist Tristin Hopper blames on a string of self-inflicted policy failures detailed in his new book.

“Don’t Be Canada: How One Country Did Everything Wrong All At Once” was released in April. In it, the National Post columnist says Canada has mismanaged several critical issues compared to other developed nations, including drug and crime reform, euthanasia, health care, transgender policy, the judiciary, and housing.
