Scrutiny Rising Over Council on American-Islamic Relations’ Ties to Terrorism — and Turkey’s Governmen

The Council on American-Islamic Relations is taking a beating this holiday season. Just before Thanksgiving, Texas designated the civil rights organization, known colloquially as “CAIR,” as a foreign terrorist organization. Florida followed suit on December 8.

The day that Governor Ron DeSantis designated CAIR, news broke that the organization’s political advocacy arm, CAIR Action, has been operating in America “without the licenses, registrations, or legal authority required in any of the 22 states where it raises money or conducts political activity.” Nor does CAIR Action possess the documentation required to “legally operate or solicit funds” at Washington, D.C., where it’s incorporated.

Canadian donations to charity take a hit, drop to all-time low, study shows

A new study from the Fraser Institute on Canadian generosity has found that the number of Canadians donating to charity dropped to the lowest point in two decades in 2023.

The Canadian public policy think tank study showed that around one-in-six Canadians — or just under 17 per cent — are making charitable donations on their tax returns.

The percentage of Canadians donating to charity dipped to 16.8 per cent in 2023 from 21.9 per cent in 2013, the study showed.

The economy, mass immigration from incompatible cultures, social balkanization I suspect there are many reasons.

Perhaps if the thieves in Ottawa stopped stealing our money to give to foreigners we would have the means once again to be charitable.

GOLDSTEIN: Conservative ‘nobodies’ paving the way to Liberal dynasty

Pierre Trudeau famously said that opposition MPs are nobodies 50 yards from Parliament Hill – and today it’s a handful of Conservative nobodies who are laying the foundation for another Liberal dynasty in Ottawa.

Floor-crossings from the Conservatives to the Liberals by Michael Ma last week and Chris d’Entremont after the Liberal budget in November – hardly national figures – put the Liberals at 171 seats, one-seat shy of a majority government in the 343-seat House of Commons.

Trump tells ISIS, ‘we will retaliate’ after ‘terrible’ ambush that killed 3 US troops in Syria

President Trump vowed to respond Saturday after an attack on US and coalition forces killed three US service members in Palmyra, Syria.

“We will retaliate,” Trump said, asked by reporters about the incident as he left the White House Saturday to attend the Army-Navy football game.

“We mourn the loss of three great patriots in Syria. We know how it happened. It was an ambush — terrible,” Trump said.

What hope for peace in Ukraine now?

A FEW days ago it seemed as though President Donald Trump’s 28-point peace plan for Ukraine still had some mileage.

Last Tuesday the Epoch Times reported hopefully that ‘conversations involving Washington, Moscow, and Kyiv have continued since Trump’s proposed plan to end the conflict came to light in November’. Apace, in fact, the article commented.

Helpfully the ET reminded us where the talks began and where they stood (by last Tuesday). First it went through the original plan drafted by the US special envoy for peace missions, Steve Witkoff, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The 28 points covered an array of topics including territory, the military, future international relations, post-war reconstruction funding, and internal politics.

First Nation Police Chiefs Turn to Texas Sheriffs as Sinaloa Cartel Exploits Canada’s Border Gaps

TEXAS — With a lack of funding and support from Canadian officials, First Nation police chiefs on the front lines of a corridor of Sinaloa Cartel–linked border smuggling and drug trafficking have turned to enforcement colleagues they’d never met for help: Texas sheriffs.

Ammon Blair of the Texas Public Policy Foundation organized the innovative collaboration with the two Indigenous police chiefs, who presented along with Blair at a recent panel in Ottawa attended by Canada’s fentanyl “czar” Kevin Brosseau.

Why is the Right Promoting Idleness?

We need to discuss why Zack Polanski and Elon Musk are both selling essentially the same dangerously utopian dream. Call these fantasies what you like: universal basic income (UBI), hyperabundance, MMT (unlimited borrowing), work as merely an option – they all boil down to the same idea, that there’s a magic wand available that will wish all our problems away.

For those of you not familiar with UBI I suggest a visit to UBI.org where you can watch interesting videos from Barack Obama, Yanis Varoufakis John McDonnell, Ed Miliband and many others talking about its merits. The site even links to an Economist article by Nicola Sturgeon encouraging us all to take a second look at UBI. And, for those of you not familiar with Elon Musk’s claim that robots and AI will render human work an option, this link is just one of many that will take you to where he makes out the case.

Potential disaster looms over Pierre Poilievre’s leadership

Losing one MP to the Liberals may be regarded as a misfortune. Losing two smacks of carelessness. Now Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative leadership is really in danger. Even a victory in the upcoming leadership review in January won’t necessarily make it safe.

Now, Mr. Poilievre will be looking over his shoulder and into the shadows. Maybe one more of his MPs will defect before party delegates convene in Calgary to vote on his leadership. Or just after he wins. Liberal House Leader Steven MacKinnon declared Friday that there are other dissatisfied Conservative MPs. He might as well have sneaked up behind Mr. Poilievre and shouted “boo!”

The dislike held by the media for Poilievre always makes me question the doomsayers.

Pressure mounts on Rep Ilhan Omar as Ted Cruz warns she faces jail and deportation if ‘incest’ marriage is true

Ilhan Omar married her brother Elmi

Senator Ted Cruz has weighed in on Representative Ilhan Omar and issued her with a warning after allegations have swirled that the progressive congresswoman married her brother so he could become an American citizen.

Cruz shared an article on X, accusing Omar of the reported sham marriage, writing: ‘If this is true, then Omar faces criminal liability under three different statutes.’

The Republican senator then cited three US laws, including Federal Marriage Fraud, State Incest Laws, and Tax Fraud.

Ugh! Oliver Sacks Was a Fraud

No doubt many of you cried near the end of the movie Awakenings.

The movie, based on Oliver Sacks’ bestselling book of the same name, struck an emotional chord with many people for the same reason that Flowers for Algernon did, and it turns out to be about as based on real life as that depressing work was.

This is the New Yorker article link – Oliver Sacks Put Himself Into His Case Studies. What Was the Cost?

GRAHN: Next level public corruption in BC — Indigi-washing in amended Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act

Indian Money Dance

More than a decade ago, I found myself enjoying a summer drink on a Vancouver patio with a friend. Partway through, we were joined by a friend-of-my-friend — Mark, who worked in facilities management. We eased into the usual small talk, and I offered the inevitable confession that I worked in public procurement.

One beer became two, as they tend to do on a warm afternoon, and eventually the conversation drifted into that warm, truth-serum stage of mild intoxication. Mark leaned in, lowered his voice with theatrical seriousness, and asked the question he’d clearly been waiting to unload, “So… have you ever been offered a bribe?”

When fascism came to America in 2025, it wore a red baseball cap and carried an AR-15

American democracy fell this year.

It fell at home, it fell abroad, and each fall accelerated the other. It fell to an unholy trinity of old-school fascism, Russian mafia-statism and American gunslinging and fame-seeking. It fell in ways that were uniquely American but also in ways reminiscent of other despotic, murderous, expansionist, misogynistic and racist elected takeovers — ones that have led to tanks rolling across Europe.
