When the ‘Big Mute’ Speaks Out

“The Russians are coming!” Throughout the Cold War, that phrase expressed the anxiety felt by Western democracies about the possibility of a surprise nuclear attack by the Soviet Union. Half jest, the tongue-in-cheek quip evoked Russian chief Nikita Khrushchev’s notorious braggadocio in 1956 addressed to Western powers: “We will bury you!”

Later in an address at the United Nations, the Communist leader hinted that the promised burial could come by the year 2000.

By 1992, however, another phrase was making the rounds in Western capitals: “The Russians are going!”

Pope Leo visits Istanbul’s Blue Mosque

Pope Leo XIV has visited Istanbul’s Sultan Ahmed Mosque – widely known as the Blue Mosque – in his first visit to a Muslim place of worship since he took up the papacy in May.

The Pontiff was seen bowing as he entered the building, but it is reported he did not pray at the mosque, as his two predecessors had done.

The Vatican said in a statement Leo undertook the tour “in a spirit of reflection and listening, with deep respect for the place and for the faith of those who gather there in prayer”…. and want to cut our heads off.

Violent Muslims in Denmark – every western nation has had enough of this shit on their streets

The day before Thanksgiving, a “thoroughly vetted” military age male, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, decided he had pressing matters to attend to that didn’t involve spending the holiday expressing gratitude to the United States for granting him asylum and giving him an unearned and unprecedented opportunity to build a life here, rather than languish another half century in that squalid dump we call Afghanistan. Rather, he decided that jihad took precedence, and opened fire on two National Guardsmen who were spending their holiday not with family, but on the streets of our own squalid dump we call Washington D.C., in an effort to keep its beleaguered citizens safe.

Advocates fear Liberals have abandoned election pledges on animal welfare

My brothers, well 3 of them. I am the youngest. Two more to follow. No date and I don’t recognize the location or the kitten.

MPs and animal-welfare groups fear the federal government has put on hold an election promise to bring forward bills designed to alleviate animal suffering, and that they are no longer a priority for Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The Liberals promised to bring forward two animal welfare bills if they won the election: One to ban the export of live horses overseas for slaughter, and a second to outlaw elephants and great apes in zoos and circuses. But neither bill has been introduced since Mr. Carney’s election win.

French mayor’s nativity display sparks protests

A nativity scene in a French town hall has sparked protests against its apparent violation of the country’s secularism laws.

The centre-Right mayor of Beziers, in southern France, has gone ahead with the Christmas display despite public buildings in France being banned from using religious iconography.

Demonstrators gathered outside the town hall in southern France on Saturday booing and whistling Robert Ménard, the mayor.

The French can be so irritating.

Hands off our candidates: Grassroots Tories push back against party brass in a struggle over who chooses who runs

OTTAWA—Frustrated grassroots Conservatives are mounting efforts to wrest control of candidate nominations away from senior party officials, as members prepare for a national convention where Pierre Poilievre is set to face a critical test of his leadership.

The Conservative party’s national convention will be held at the end of January in Calgary, near the rural riding where Poilievre clinched his parliamentary comeback after the loss of his Ottawa-area seat and a bruising election defeat earlier this year.

‘End of an Era‘: MTV Pulling Plug on Global Music Channels

London (AFP) – MTV kick-started a new era of music and pop culture in 1981, when it went on air for the first time, emblematically playing “Video Killed the Radio Star” as its debut music video.

More than four decades later, the channel, now owned by US media giant Paramount Skydance, will wind down its international music broadcasting by the end of the year as it struggles to compete with online streaming and social media.

So long.

Canada at the defence crossroads: The challenges of thinking long-term

Canada’s Air Superiority Fighter Sub

Witnessing the ongoing public debate about fighter jets and submarines this fall has felt a lot like watching people argue over baseball, hockey or some other team sport.

Naturally, it has been particularly uncompromising online where the characteristics and quirks of each aircraft and boat have been analyzed to the nth degree with the kind of fan worship usually reserved for pro franchises.

Those who love the F-35, love it a lot. The same can be said for the Gripen. The mania is dialled back somewhat in the debate over whether to choose the South Korean KS-III submarine or Germany’s Type 12CD, but it’s still present.

What drove the DC shooter?

Rahmanullah Lakanwal Muslim Terrorist

WHAT DROVE THE DC SHOOTER? Three days before an Afghan refugee ambushed two National Guard soldiers in Washington, killing one and critically wounding the other, Democratic Sen. Elissa Slotkin appeared on ABC News to express her fear that members of the Guard would soon attack innocent civilians. “It makes me incredibly nervous,” Slotkin said, “that we’re about to see people in law enforcement, people in uniformed military, get nervous, get stressed, shoot at American civilians.”

Slotkin, of course, had it completely wrong. In real life, the Guard did not attack civilians. A civilian attacked the Guard.

New poll shows British Columbians favourable to idea of pipeline — sort of

Transmountain Pipeline Terminal

Premier David Eby’s vehement opposition to the idea of a new oil pipeline across B.C.’s central Interior appears to be out of step with the sentiments of a slim majority of British Columbians, according to recent polling by the Angus Reid Institute.

Polling data, released just as Eby repeated his government’s sentiments Thursday, shows that 53 per cent of residents lean in favour of the idea of building a new oil pipeline from Alberta to B.C.’s north coast, although the backing comes with conditions, according to Angus Reid president Shachi Kurl.

Billboards, Donations and 6,000 Letters: Why Luigi Mangione’s Fans Won’t Quit

As the accused killer of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO heads to court this week, his support has proven surprisingly enduring

When accused UnitedHealthcare shooter Luigi Mangione arrives at a Manhattan courthouse for hearings this week, a digital billboard featuring amputee Michael Kissling will be mounted on a truck driving around outside.

Kissling, 32 years old, blames UnitedHealthcare for denying treatments he says could have saved his leg. He doesn’t condone violence, but says the killing of his insurance company’s chief executive, Brian Thompson, has helped draw attention to challenges that he and others have faced.

Of Mangione he says, “If he’s Malcolm X, then I’m trying to emulate Martin Luther King.”

Jamie Sarkonak: The CRTC’s top-down diversity mandate comes for Big Streaming

Where diversity data collection goes, quotas often follow. That’s why it’s concerning that the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) ordered Netflix, Amazon and every other major online streamer to collect diversity data as a condition of operating here.

At the very end of the telecom regulator’s new policy on Canadian content is buried a new requirement for broadcasters to keep diversity statistics on key creative personnel, namely whether they are “racialized people, people with disabilities, individuals who identify as 2SLGBTQI+ and women.” This was released earlier in November. It doesn’t seem radical because the CRTC has been incrementally formalizing diversity requirements for so many years.

When BLM and Big Tranny were at their scammiest peak many streaming series were injected with nonsensical Black or Tranny story lines.

The end result? People stopped watching.

Cancon is typically bad. Racialized Cancon is worse.

Benjamin Netanyahu seeks pardon from Israel’s president

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asked the country’s President, Isaac Herzog, for a pardon over corruption cases he has been battling.

The president’s office said Herzog would receive opinions from justice officials before considering the request “which carries with it significant implications”.

Netanyahu has been standing trial for the past five years on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust in connection with three separate cases. He denies wrongdoing.
