Chomsky had deeper ties with Epstein than previously known, documents reveal

The prominent linguist and philosopher Noam Chomsky called it a “most valuable experience” to have maintained “regular contact” with Jeffrey Epstein, who by then had long been convicted of soliciting prostitution from a minor, according to emails released earlier in November by US lawmakers.

Such comments from Chomsky, or attributed to him, suggest his association with Epstein – who officials concluded killed himself in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges – went deeper than the occasional political and academic discussions the former had previously claimed to have with the latter.

Chomsky, 96, had also reportedly acknowledged receiving about $270,000 from an account linked to Epstein while sorting the disbursement of common funds relating to the first of his two marriages, though the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) professor has insisted not “one penny” came directly from the infamous financier.

An unhappy booze industry asks why alcohol was left out of interprovincial trade agreement

After alcohol was excluded from a deal this week to drop interprovincial trade barriers, some in the booze industry say they’re perplexed and disappointed — and that they’ve waited long enough for provinces to make the change.

Signed on Wednesday by the provinces, territories and federal government, the agreement promises to remove restrictions on the free movement of some goods across Canada.

However, food and alcohol were conspicuously left off the list — the latter industry having long advocated for the removal of the barriers, well before U.S. tariffs spurred a national campaign to make free trade between the provinces easier.

Nigeria sees one of worst mass abductions as 315 taken from Catholic school

St. Mary’s School Nigeria – students abducted

More than 300 children and staff are now thought to have been kidnapped by gunmen from a Catholic school in central Nigeria, making it one of the worst mass abductions the country has seen.

The Christian Association of Nigeria said 303 students and 12 teachers were taken from on St Mary’s School in Papiri, Niger state – substantially more than previously estimated.

It said the figures have been revised upwards “after a verification exercise”.

The walls are closing in on Zelensky

Ukraine faces a triple threat amid growing casualties, a corruption scandal and a peace plan that amounts to capitulation

Gennady Druzhenko reckons that of the 1,000-odd fellow military recruits in his training camp, he is the only one who is there willingly.

The vast majority are conscripts, many of them old or unhealthy, press-ganged off the streets to plug the growing gaps in Ukraine’s front lines.

His comrades’ morale could not get much worse, but in the wake of the corruption scandal last week engulfing Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, a new low has been reached.

“Some of these guys are nearly 60 and it’s a tragedy that they’re being mobilised anyway,” Mr Druzhenko told The Telegraph.

Live – Ukraine and US to hold peace talks in Switzerland

Ukraine and the United States will hold peace talks in Switzerland on how to end the war, a negotiator for Kyiv has said.

Donald Trump gave Volodymyr Zelensky until Thursday to approve his 28-point peace plan, which would see Ukraine surrender key territory, cut the size of its army and destroy any hope of joining Nato.

We have normalized delinquent, disorderly behaviour in our cities for too long

For years, a vocal minority of social activists have effectively dictated public policy in Canadian cities. Homeless encampments in parks and beside playgrounds have not simply been tolerated, but recharacterized as legitimate neighbourhoods to be protected. Indeed, drive around Toronto and you’ll see signs that read “I support my neighbours in tents” outside million-dollar homes, where the families who sleep inside ostensibly have private backyards to enjoy. (Lower-income families without backyards, by contrast, actually have to share public outdoor spaces with those “neighbours in tents.”)

The Left Thinks Western Civilization Itself Is ‘White Nationalist’

Do you celebrate classical architecture? Or do you appreciate Platonic or Aristotelian philosophy, or seek to practice stoicism as taught by the ancients? Perhaps you’re inspired by stories of ancient Greek heroism, epitomized by Achilles before the gates of Troy, the Spartans at Thermopylae, or Alexander the Great’s victories against the Persians? You’d better beware — according to liberal propaganda efforts, you’re probably a white nationalist.

What’s behind the spike in jewelry store smash-and-grabs in Ontario

In the parking lot of an east-end Toronto apartment building, a detective in plain clothes and a bullet-proof vest empties a bag of potential evidence he and other officers seized moments before from a main-floor unit.

Wrapped in plastic bags are hammers, a replica handgun, a diamond ring in a Peoples Jewellers box, a balaclava, jewelry display boxes and pieces of broken glass police believe could have come from jewelry display cases smashed during a series of 11 robberies and attempted robberies in June and early July.

“It’s disturbing that it seems every time we make an arrest or an occurrence happens, another one seems to follow it,” said Det. Sgt. Ryan Boulay, who leads York Regional Police’s (YRP) holdup unit. York Region is an area north of Toronto that includes Richmond Hill and Markham.

Trump praises Mamdani in the Oval Office: ‘We’ll help him’

President Trump and New York’s mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani stunned both of their supporters with a friendly show in the White House after a meeting that was widely expected to be hostile.

The pair, who publicly rebuked one another during Mamdani’s campaign, smiled and shook hands in the Oval Office before they spoke to the press on Friday afternoon.
