For both Carney and Poilievre, success has nothing to do with their strengths and everything to do with their weaknesses

As a young boy, I reserved a special place in hell for whichever ad executive decided it was time to launch the “back to school” marketing blitz in the midst of my carefree late summer.

The reminder was, in a word, unwelcome.

So, at the risk of being “that guy” for Canada’s Members of Parliament and their hardworking staff, let me join the “back to Parliament” commentary train for Ottawa’s upcoming fall session, which kicks off Sept. 15.

Class war: BBC finds flags threatening

National flags have started lining our streets. They may say something more

Driving through the south west of Birmingham, it’s hard not to notice something about the lampposts.

For more than a mile, almost every one has a St George’s or union jack flag attached – thousands of them.

In one district, Weoley Castle, the BBC found two men carrying a ladder and shopping bags. A DIY trip this was not, because as we stop to talk to them one rests the ladder against a lamppost, the other pulls a union jack flag from the bag, and the next minute it’s flying high.

The BBC to my knowledge has never published a negative piece about the Palestinian flags that litter the UK. But that’s an upper class thing so it’s OK. Only proles would fly a Union Jack.

Number of female Canadian soldiers on UN peacekeeping missions craters … Are there no Cross Dressers to make up the Shortfall??

OTTAWA — Canada only has two women from the military deployed on United Nations peacekeeping missions right now, raising concerns Ottawa is failing to lead by example and may be called out by the international body for missing its targets.

In 2017, former prime minister Justin Trudeau launched a big push to have Canada become a leader internationally promoting women in peacekeeping. It was part of the his government’s feminist foreign policy.

But statistics show the number of female Canadian Armed Forces members contributing to peacekeeping has dwindled so much it recently hit rock bottom.

The UN mandates 22% of “Peace Keepers” be Wimmins.

On duty in a facial recognition van: ‘It’s like an Odeon, mate’

A man in a camouflage jacket, baseball cap and football shirt whizzed across Cardiff Central Square on an e-bike on Thursday morning. Fifty yards away, in a blacked-out police van decked out with leather chairs, a desk and screens, an alarm was sounding.

His face had been matched with one on a criminal “watchlist”, and officers from South Wales Police’s live facial recognition team were mobilising to arrest him. He was wanted for breaching court-imposed conditions and, helped by this new technology supported by artificial intelligence, the police had him in handcuffs in a matter of minutes.

Carney in Kyiv meeting with Zelenskyy to discuss military aid, security guarantees

No wonder Carney stopped by …

Is there financial corruption in the Ukraine under Zelensky?

Financial corruption in Ukraine under President Volodymyr Zelensky remains a significant issue, as it has been for decades, rooted in the country’s post-Soviet transition and oligarchic influence. Evidence from various sources indicates persistent challenges despite Zelensky’s pledges to combat graft.

Abacus Data Poll: Conservatives Edge Ahead as Cost of Living Dominates and Trump Fades

August 24, 2025

From August 15 to 19, 2025, Abacus Data surveyed 1,915 Canadian adults on the state of federal politics. The poll captures public opinion just as Air Canada flight attendants initiated strike action but it’s important to note that many of the interviews were completed prior to that event, and thus this wave does not fully reflect its impact. The same is true for Pierre Poilievre’s byelection victory on Monday.

Ten years ago, Angela Merkel opened Germany’s borders to Syrian refugees. It was a trigger for mass arrivals across the Continent that changed Europe for ever

Ten years ago Germans were putting balloons on lampposts to greet a multitude of foreigners. The popular tabloid, Bild, screamed the headline ‘Refugees Welcome’ as a million or more migrants began to flow over the border.

Warehouses in Berlin were stacked high with donated clothes, food parcels and toys for the new arrivals. Camp beds to house the guests filled sports halls, while housewives, business owners, students and social workers volunteered to help in a nation still compensating for its Nazi past.

On August 25, 2015, Germany’s immigration ministry announced that Syrians fleeing civil war would be waved in with few checks or questions. Then came the moment that changed Europe for ever.

HANNAFORD: American advice for Canada’s PM – ‘Get rid of DEI!’

How Mark Carney could fix Canada, in two sentences… “Give up the net-zero scams. Give up the ESG and DEI programs — they’re luxury beliefs that don’t mix with manufacturing.”

Thus Andrew Hale, tonight’s guest on The Hannaford Show. Hale is a senior trade-policy analyst at the Washington-based Heritage Foundation. And while he speaks for a conservatively inclined organization, plenty of Canadian Liberals would tell Carney the same thing.
