Suspects in Texas ICE shooting tied to trans, anti-fascist activism

DALLAS — Just after dusk on July 5, the crash of wood and metal suddenly reverberated through a predominantly Black and Latino neighborhood here known as The Bottoms. Neighbors peered out to see a small army of men in desert camouflage and tactical vests crouched behind a black armored vehicle, shouting commands toward a brick house.

A SWAT team had smashed through the front door of the residence, which neighbors say was occupied by several transgender women, part of a group of activists who initially united around trans and queer identity issues. Now, the women, dressed in bathrobes and pajamas, were being detained at gunpoint, neighbors said.

“It was weird enough that six or seven White, trans people moved into the neighborhood,” said a neighbor, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of privacy concerns. He rolled a joint and gazed at the plywood-covered front window: “And now the FBI is raiding their house.”

Carney praises Trump as ministers jet to Sweden to talk defence deals

Prime Minister Mark Carney issued an unusual statement Saturday to praise U.S. President Donald Trump for trying to broker a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.

Carney’s public endorsement of Trump’s leadership on the world stage came as the president and his Alaskan summit were widely derided by foreign policy and security experts. The get-together was of little value and gave Russian President Vladimir Putin, a former intelligence officer, an image boost, they said.

RUBENSTEIN: Is indigenous approval now mandatory?

According to Blacklock’s Reporter, Prime Minister Mark Carney “revised” his first major Parliamentary bill as Canada’s leader on August 8, by mandating that industrial projects deemed fit for speedy approval “must” serve the interests of indigenous peoples.

This unilateral reinvention repudiates the legal text of Bill C-5, passed into law on June 26, which only states that indigenous interests “may” or “can” be considered.

White House applauds clearing of ‘silent protest’ anti-abortion campaigner

The Trump administration has applauded Scottish prosecutors’ “sensible decision” to clear an anti-abortion campaigner over her silent protest.

Rose Docherty, 75, was arrested in February after police were called to reports of an anti-abortion protest near the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH), in Glasgow. She had been holding a sign that read: “Coercion is a crime, here to talk, only if you want.”

No Country for Barbie? Muslims Shutting Down Screening Divides French Politics

The latest political scandal in France is just as absurd as it seems: residents of Muslim background had a free public screening of ‘Barbie’ shut down for being offensive to their cultural sensibilities, and anyone who thinks this is problematic is labeled an Islamophobic far-right extremist.

The incident happened in the ‘ethnically-diverse’ Paris suburb of Noisy-le-Sec, where the local council had the idea of providing free film screenings to poorer neighborhoods during the summer. The program would have been successful were it not for the apparently ‘poor’ movie choice for last weekend, featuring Greta Gerwig’s 2023 Oscar-winning feminist comedy Barbie.

Patrice Dutil: What Toronto loses with the naming of Sankofa Square

As municipal officials in Toronto get set to host an event inaugurating the newly renamed Sankofa Square (formerly Younge-Dundas Square), it’s worth pondering what could have been.

The word “Sankofa” is not organic, it does not grow out of the Torontonian experience and it is not authentic. Nor it is even original: in the United States, there are endless shops, schools, arts centres and community organizations named after the concept.

Racists renamed Dundas Square after African Slavers to insult White Canadians and Canada’s heritage.

Is a Christian King Prepared To Rule a Post-Christian Britain?

Britain’s King Charles III is receiving praise for his “momentous” commitment to diversity after both a Ramadan meal and an “LGBT+ History Month” lecture were held at Windsor Castle this year—although not, of course, at the same time. The House of Windsor has become a microcosm of the United Kingdom, slowly being squeezed between the pincers of LGBT sexual revolutionaries and an exploding Muslim population (Muhammad recently became the most popular name in England for the first time).

Conrad Black: The end of Ukraine war is coming

Whatever happened in the Trump-Putin meeting, just after this column was written, we are finally getting close to the only satisfactory end to the awful Ukraine war. President Donald Trump deserves credit for being the only western statesman who audibly made the point that the West had two objectives in this war. Of course, Russia could not be permitted to occupy and reabsorb Ukraine. If it had done so, it would in one stroke have regained the largest single piece of what it had lost in its total defeat in the Cold War, which caused the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the collapse of international communism, (and the realignment of the left of the world as spontaneous environmental militants attacking capitalism from a new angle in the name of saving the planet). Ukraine is next to Russia itself the largest and most strategically important component of the former USSR. Apart from being a strategic disaster and a terrible injustice to Ukraine, the Russian conquest of Ukraine would have exposed the Western Alliance as a paper tiger that no aggressive state need take seriously.
