Canada’s recognition of Palestinian state ‘dangerously premature,’ Jewish groups say

“It is deeply concerning that the Canadian government does not link statehood recognition to the removal of Hamas and the return of Israeli hostages,” Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs CEO Noah Shack said Thursday. The CIJA represents Jewish Federations across Canada.

On Wednesday, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada intends to recognize Palestinian statehood at the United Nations General Assembly in September.

France under pressure to stop $9.7m of USAID contraceptives being destroyed

The French government has said it is closely monitoring a US plan to destroy millions of dollars of contraceptives stocked in Europe after outrage from French feminists, rights groups and family planning organisations at what they called a wasteful attack on women’s rights.

The Guardian reported this month that Donald Trump’s administration planned to destroy $9.7m of contraceptives that are believed to be in a warehouse in Belgium but may be moved to France for incineration. They are mostly long-acting contraceptives such as IUDs and birth control implants, which had been bought under public health programmes run by the US Agency for International Development and were probably intended for women in Africa.

More than 25,000 migrants have attempted to cross the Channel to the UK in small boats this year, reaching the milestone figure in record time, Home Office figures show.

As Detroit 3 automakers report tariff blows, experts say a trade deal is the only solution

The Detroit Three automakers are taking a big hit from the Trump administration’s tariffs, and industry experts say only one thing can stop the bleeding for the North American auto industry — a trade deal with low tariff rates for the industry.

General Motors, Ford and Stellantis have all reported tariff impacts in the billions on recent earnings calls.

Ford said on Wednesday that it took an $800-million US (about $1.1 billion Cdn) hit for the second quarter as a result of tariffs.

Revealed: The true scale of foreign sex offenders in Britain

Record numbers of foreign sex offenders and violent criminals are being held in jails in England and Wales, the first official data by nationality has revealed.

Some 1,731 foreign-national sex offenders were in prison as of June this year, up by 9.9 per cent in 12 months. The rate of increase was nearly three times that of Britons, with the number imprisoned for sex offences up 3.8 per cent, according to data published by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) on Thursday.

The number of foreign violent offenders held in jails is also at its highest since records began a decade ago. It has risen by 8.8 per cent in a year to 3,250, nearly double the rate of 4.8 per cent for Britons imprisoned for violence.

Trump increases tariff on Canada to 35%, White House says

WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday signed an executive order increasing tariffs on Canadian goods to 35 per cent from 25 per cent on all products not covered by the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement, the White House said.

Goods transshipped to another country to evade the new tariffs will be subject to a transshipment levy of 40 per cent, according to a White House fact sheet.

The increased tariff, which the White House said was the result of Canada’s “continued inaction and retaliation,” comes after Trump told reporters that Prime Minister Mark Carney reached out ahead of an Aug. 1 tariff deadline, but no conversations between the two took place.

… Earlier on Thursday, Trump said it would be “very hard” for the U.S. and Canada to strike a deal after Ottawa moved toward recognizing Palestinian statehood. He said later on Thursday, however, that he did not view the move as “a deal breaker” in trade talks.

Docs: Soros Executive Predicted FBI Would ‘Put More Oil Into The Fire’ Of Russia Hoax

Records obtained by U.S. intelligence officials indicate the FBI would play a role in putting “more oil into the fire” of the Russia collusion hoax ahead of the 2016 presidential election, according to newly declassified documents released Thursday.

The apparent revelation was included in a previously classified appendix that was a part of John Durham’s 2023 Special Counsel report on the origins of the fabricated scheme attempting to advance the falsehood that Donald Trump colluded with Moscow to steal the 2016 contest.

Michael Taube: Of course Ontario’s activist judiciary would invent a right to bike lanes

Removing bike lanes is … unconstitutional?

I know it sounds completely insane. Yet, that’s exactly what the Ontario Superior Court ruled on Wednesday with respect to Premier Doug Ford’s plan to remove bike lanes on three busy Toronto intersections — Bloor Street, Yonge Street and University Avenue — to improve the flow of traffic and reduce congestion.

The Rotherham scandal is even worse than we imagined

‘We’re forgotten children. We’re dirty little secrets. That’s how they look at us.’ Shockingly, the brave woman who uttered these words is not referring to the mainly Pakistani-heritage men who raped her and other young girls in Rotherham, South Yorkshire over the course of several decades. She is talking about her town’s police officers. Five women have this week gone public with their allegations that the very people who should have been protecting vulnerable girls and arresting their abusers were not only complicit in silencing victims and appeasing perpetrators – they raped, threatened and violently attacked grooming-gang victims, too.

Mass circumcision ceremony leaves 39 boys dead and dozens more mutilated after botched procedures during tribal ‘initiation’ in South Africa

The 2025 tribal ‘initiation ceremony’ where teenage males in South Africa undergo agonising circumcision has ended – with 39 deaths and dozens more boys mutilated.

Despite a target being set by the Government of zero fatalities this year, the figure is still a huge drop on last year where 93 died, while a total of 361 boys have died in the last five years.

Gruesome complications in 2024 led to 11 penis amputations after unskilled traditional ‘surgeons’ used old spears and razor blades to perform the eye-watering rituals.
