South Africa’s Hypocrisy on Israel

South Africa’s government defends chants of ‘Kill the farmer!’ but insists that Israel is committing ‘genocide’ in Gaza.

At a massive Johannesburg rally in July 2023, Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters party, grabbed the microphone and began to chant. “Kill the Boer! The farmer!” he bellowed. The crowd of 100,000 joined in the song, an old “anti-apartheid” ditty titled “Kill the Boer,” a reference to the white Afrikaner population of South Africa who are the descendants of Dutch settlers centuries ago. Progressive activists and academics immediately insisted that the song, in which the refrain “shoot the Boer” appears 20 times, should not be taken “literally”—although the crowd did not appear to be aware of this as they pointed their fingers in the air like guns for each chorus.

Non-Human Intelligence At The Threshold

In the turmoil of world news this week, it isn’t hard to find occasions to worry. Yet, two novel subjects have also become prominent, each raising alarm from the high-tech laboratories of Silicon Valley to the halls of Congress. They relate to the potential of AI to make humans obsolete, and to the global threat implied by the mystery of UFOs, even when reframed as the less-intimidating “UAP,” as Pentagon purists prefer.

The real problem is that the two issues are more closely related than anyone had foreseen, and their combined power to disrupt social, business, and perhaps even spiritual realities threatens to become uncontrollable, even if the two constituencies have little in common.

When will Doug Ford rein in Ontario’s foreign-student industry?

For months now, federal Immigration Minister Marc Miller has been warning provinces that if they don’t rein in the boom in foreign students, Ottawa will have to do something. By provinces, he really means Ontario, the irresponsible actor that has blown up the system for the whole country.

Yet there’s been no word from Ontario Premier Doug Ford on whether he has any plans to fix the problem. So far, his government has done almost nothing.

Poor policies responsible for stagnant economy and deteriorating federal finances

The Trudeau government was elected in 2015 based in part on a new approach to government policy, promising greater prosperity for Canadians through short-term deficit spending, lower taxes for most Canadians, and a more direct and active role for government in economic development. However, the result has been economic stagnation and a marked deterioration in the country’s finances. If Canada is to restore its economic and fiscal health, Ottawa must enact fundamental policy reform.

The Trudeau government has significantly increased spending from $256.2 billion in 2014-15 to a projected $449.8 billion in 2023-24 (excluding debt interest costs) to expand existing programs and create new programs.

Jordan Peterson loses fight with psychology college over mandatory social media training

Jordan Peterson has failed in his attempt to have the Ontario justice system prevent the College of Psychologists of Ontario from ordering him to undergo remedial social media training.

On Tuesday, a panel of three judges with the Ontario Court of Appeal dismissed Peterson’s motion for leave to appeal an earlier decision by the Ontario Divisional Court. No reasons were given, which is normal for the appeal court.

How can a Woke West defeat radical Islam?

The answer is that it can’t. It is too obsessed with non-existent gender equity to even try.

The Welfare State, the great pride of Western civilization, the latest achievement of democracy of a civilized, democratic and well-fed West, has ended. The Toronto Sun reports that Canadian government websites no longer talk about “women”, but about “menstruating employees.”

People’s Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier thunders against Trudeau’s “gender-obsessed” government which is waging a systematic attack on masculinity and turning men “into non-binary, trans, gender-fluid, weak and effeminate sissies.”

Civil servants urged to ‘suppress’ Douglas Murray in counterterrorist lecture

For all the talk of a Tory ‘war on woke Whitehall’, more examples just keep cropping up. In an article for Fathom Journal, Anna Stanley, a former civil servant, this week painted a vivid picture about the kind of counter-terrorist training which is being given to her colleagues. Stanley writes that she recently attended a Kings College London (KCL) course called ‘Issues in Countering Terrorism’.

Time to ‘Curtis LeMay’ the Houthis

The Yemeni-based Houthi rebel attacks on global commerce and trade finally produced a response from the Biden administration (and the United Kingdom) in the form of targeted air strikes on Houthi military facilities, such as “command and control nodes, munitions, depots, launching systems, production facilities, and air defense radar systems,” according to a CNN report. A Houthi spokesman said that the strikes killed five people and wounded six others. The same spokesman stated that the strikes “would not deter further … attacks on shipping.” On Sunday, U.S. warplanes targeted a radar site with strikes, which a Houthi spokesman described as causing no “material damages” and no injuries.

The scientists fighting back against the climate doomers

In a two-hour video posted on YouTube in 2021, Extinction Rebellion co-founder Roger Hallam looks directly into the camera as he imparts a message to young people about the supposed reality of future climate change.

“What we are talking about here is a murder project,” he says calmly, “which is going to destroy the lives and livelihoods of your generation.”

How to End the Suffering of the Palestinians

Hamas beats Gazans

As the world’s attention is focused on the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip, including South Africa’s false “genocide” charges against Israel at the International Court of Justice, in Syria Palestinians are worried about a new government law that considers them “foreigners.”

By labeling the Palestinians as “foreigners,” the Syrian government is seeking to deprive them of the ability to purchase real estate. Like the majority of the Syrians, most of the Palestinians are Arab Muslims.

Women and children who went to live with IS in Syria are being brought home

“Welcome back to Kyrgyzstan,” says Shukur Shermatov, addressing a class of 20 women. He is wearing a traditional felt cap, but there is nothing traditional about this school. It sits inside two rings of military security and the students are women who have been brought home from camps in Syria, where they ended up after living with the Islamic State group.

The rehabilitation centre is woven into the mountains of northern Kyrgyzstan, and it is where wives and children of suspected IS recruits spend their first six weeks after being repatriated.

Our BBC World Service team are among the first visitors, and like the residents, everything we say and do is closely monitored by the state intelligence agency.

Not a great idea.
