Beware the WEF’s new misinformation panic

AI-powered lies and manipulation constitute the gravest threat to humanity. At least this is the dystopian scenario espoused by the collective wisdom of 1,500 experts surveyed in the World Economic Forum’s 2024 Global Risks Report last week.

Unfortunately, such outbreaks of “elite panic” are a recurring phenomenon. Whenever the public sphere is expanded through new communications technology, the traditional gatekeepers fret about the dangers of allowing the general public — too fickle and unlearned — unmediated access to information.

Canada to ban funding for research linked to foreign universities, labs that pose risk to national security

OTTAWA — Canada will ban federal funding for research in “sensitive areas” done in affiliation with more than 100 entities the government deems pose a risk to national security, including foreign universities and institutions.

Canadian researchers will no longer be eligible to receive federal funding for technological research that is done in affiliation with, or with funding from, any of the newly listed entities.

I feel Justin will allow the China class to strip mine Canadian research.

Ukrainian officials say year-long delay in delivery of air defence promised by Canada has come with a high price

Too many Ukrainians have died in the year since Canada announced the “high-priority donation” of an advanced air-defence system to Ukraine that has yet to be delivered, the secretary of country’s National Security and Defence Council said Tuesday.

Oleksiy Danilov told The Globe and Mail that his own nephew, killed near the front line on Jan. 8, was among those who had died in the 53 weeks since Canada promised to purchase a US$406-million National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System, or NASAMS, on Ukraine’s behalf. While the reasons for the delay may make sense in Ottawa, the wait for the U.S.-made equipment is harder to understand for those facing daily Russian missile attacks.

Inside California’s secret sterilisation programme – and its antivax legacy

Hundreds, if not thousands, of inmates were sterilised against their will. The impact on lives and trust in medicine has been devastating

As soon as Moonlight Pulido awoke from her operation, she knew something wasn’t right. Every inch of her body was covered in sweat, while a deep scar – red and raw – stretched across her lower abdomen.

An inmate at California’s Valley State Prison, Moonlight had agreed to undergo a procedure in which two growths in her ovaries would be removed, due to the risk they could turn cancerous. Instead, she was given a full abdominal hysterectomy.

It’s time for an American Jewish rethink

We thought we were at home in America, but no such luck.

This is a tough time for American Jews. Antisemitism has erupted to an unprecedented extent. We thought we were at home in America, but no such luck.

A few months ago, following the Oct. 7 massacre, a friend who is a major donor to Jewish, Israeli and American organizations said to me that Jews might have to leave America, just as we have left—willingly or unwillingly—many countries in the past. Another friend told me that he and all of his liberal friends are being forced to rethink what it means to be a liberal Jew in America.

Muslim hordes display warlike dominance across Europe under the pretense of ‘prayer’

… Like a dog marks his territory with urination, so do the new-to-Europe third world Muslim invaders with “prayer.” Ostensibly, they came as asylum seekers and refugees, displaced and downtrodden, ready to adapt and contribute to the West. Now that there’s enough of them, they can throw off the shackles of subterfuge and openly act in accordance with what they planned from the very beginning… in a particularly warlike way.

More than half of US’s 25,000 cities are predicted to become ghost towns by 2100…

Half of the nearly 25,000 cities in the US could become ghost towns by 2100, a study suggests.

Researchers at the University of Illinois Chicago found that in a modest scenario, around half of cities could lose up to a quarter of their resident populations by the end of the century.

If fertility rates continue to decline and the exodus from cities gets worse, as many as two-third of cities could see their populations shrink significantly.
