Michael Higgins: ‘Anti-racist’ doctors would put social justice above medical expertise

A working group under the auspices of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada believes training future doctors should concentrate more on social justice and anti-racism than “medical expertise.”

The idea was proposed by an anti-racism expert working group as a potential addition to CanMEDS, the framework for physician training slated for renewal in 2025. If implemented, it would elevate what is increasingly a destructive, divisive Marxist ideology over the Enlightenment ideals of science and reason.

‘To what end?’ A Toronto judge’s frustration at prisons’ failure to rehabilitate serial offender

As he sentenced an Indigenous man — who has been in and out of custody most of his life — to yet another prison term last week, a Toronto judge couldn’t help but ask: “To what end?”

Ontario Court Justice André Chamberlain called into question the usefulness of the correctional system and the lack of community supports as he sentenced Jayson Pothier to three years for breaking and entering and robbery in a ruling that experts say demonstrates a growing judicial frustration with the inability of prisons to actually rehabilitate people.

“Significant jail sentences have been imposed on you in the past,” Chamberlain said in his decision addressed directly to Pothier, who represented himself in court and pleaded guilty to his latest charges.

Biden About To Betray Israel?

While the release of the first groups of hostages held by Hamas has inevitably raised hopes about the fate of the remaining Israeli hostages, it also exposes the Biden administration’s worrying lack of commitment to supporting Israel’s declared aim of destroying the Islamist terror group.

In the immediate aftermath of Hamas terrorists committing the worst terrorist atrocity in Israel’s history on October 7, US President Joe Biden was quick to reassure Jerusalem that Washington fully supported Israel’s right to defend itself.

The West is turning away from COP28’s green agenda

The UN’s COP28 climate conference has always been more political than scientific. But now more than ever, the green agenda looks to be in jeopardy.

Whatever you may read in the establishment press, the world is turning away from draconian climate policies. Already developing countries are increasingly open about expanding the use of fossil fuels. Indeed, the two rising world powers, China and India, as well as wannabes like Iran and Russia, all plan to burn more fossil fuels, including coal in the coming years.

Over the Top: How a photographer faked Canada’s most iconic battlefield images.

When the Canadian exhibition of official First World War photographs travelled from Britain to North America in 1917, it was acclaimed in the press for its ability to bring the war home. The photographs felt lifelike in size and immediacy. Audience members in four Canadian cities reportedly recognized the faces of loved ones. The centrepiece of the exhibition was a huge photographic print showing Canadians bursting from a trench, bayonets raised. If audiences wanted to know what war looked like, this was it.

Murder of French teenager in anti-White attack could be society’s ‘tipping point’

The murder of a 16-year-old boy could prove a “tipping point for French society” Emmanuel Macron’s government warned as civilians were told not to take the law into their own hands.

The stark words from spokesman Olivier Véran came as officials called for calm after armed “paramilitary” activists marched in a suburb where suspects arrested over the killing are thought to live.

The teenager, named only as Thomas, was killed on November 19 at a village dance party in Crépol, south of Lyon. He was stabbed during a brawl that is believed to have broken out when a group of youths, said to be from a nearby housing estate, tried to gatecrash the event. Nine people were wounded, four of them seriously.

COP28: UAE planned to use climate talks to make oil deals

The United Arab Emirates planned to use its role as the host of UN climate talks as an opportunity to strike oil and gas deals, the BBC has learned.

Leaked briefing documents reveal plans to discuss fossil fuel deals with 15 nations.

The UN body responsible for the COP28 summit told the BBC hosts were expected to act without bias or self-interest.

The UAE team did not deny using COP28 meetings for business talks, and said “private meetings are private”.

I’m sure some of the UN boys have had their palms greased. Which Canadians attended?

Solitary

Donald Knows Solitary – Solitary confinement is pure torture. I know, I was there

Donald Best is an access to justice advocate and a former Toronto Police Service sergeant who spent 63 days in solitary confinement in 2013-2014.

For the last four years, the province of Ontario has, on behalf of its citizens, confined Adam Capay alone in a small, windowless basement jail cell where the lights are always on, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. According to Renu Mandhane, chief commissioner of the Ontario Human Rights Commission, Mr. Capay, an indigenous 24-year-old man, was kept alone. Not a single person for him to interact with, ever.
