The Dutch government has confirmed the authenticity of a Nazi party card held by Prince Bernhard, prince consort for decades after World War Two.
A former head of the palace archives, Flip Maarschalkerweerd, said he found the card while going through the prince’s things after his death.
Bernhard, a German aristocrat, repeatedly denied being a member of Adolf Hitler’s NSDAP political party.
However, historians gave little credence to his denials.
The five largest grocery chains have delivered plans to stabilize food prices to the federal government, Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne said Thursday.
Champagne met with the heads of Loblaw, Sobeys, Metro, Costco and Walmart in Ottawa last month. The minister told them the government wanted to see their plans to stabilize prices by Thanksgiving.
The grocery chains are promising more discounts, price freezes and price-matching campaigns, Champagne said Thursday.

Subway shooter Frank James — who opened fire on a packed Brooklyn subway train, hitting 10 people and igniting terror underground in April 2022 — will spend the rest of his days behind bars, a federal judge ruled Thursday.
James, 64, was sentenced to life in prison by Brooklyn federal Judge William F. Kuntz for the bloody April 12, 2022, attack that seriously injured subway commuters and petrified the city.
Prosecutors had asked for James to get 10 concurrent sentences of life imprisonment for the “careful and prolonged planning” that went into the attack, according to court papers.

No, it was always used to describe some dreaded social or cultural or economic phenomenon that was supposedly on the rise in Norway and that threatened to make the country look more like – horrors! – the United States. Evangelical Christianity? Amerikanske tilstander! Gun crime? Amerikanske tilstander! Rough-and-tumble election campaigns? Dumb TV shows? Private medical options? Growing economic inequality? Amerikanske tilstander!

A spate of attacks on AfD politicians may have political consequences
At the time of writing, Tino Chrupalla, the co-leader of the German Alternative für Deutschland party (AfD) is under observation at a hospital, after what appears to have been a potential attack with a needle-like object. The German authorities are still investigating the incident, but it is as of yet unclear what precisely happened.
