Fugitive drug lord ‘Taliban’ who stole cartel’s 450lb cocaine shipment is tossed ALIVE into ocean with an anchor tied to his waist

This is the moment a fugitive Venezuelan drug trafficker known as Taliban is dumped alive in the ocean with his hands zip-tied and an anchor around his waist in revenge for stealing 450 lbs of cocaine – and cash – from a cartel.

Reinaldo Fuentes is seen bound and gagged with blood stains on the back of his head before his killers struggle to heave him – and the anchor – over the side of a boat into the Caribbean Sea near Martinique.

How to fix a broken foreign student visa system? Send it back to school

Marc Miller, the new federal immigration minister, gets it. Whether he plans to fix it; whether the Prime Minister’s Office is interested in fixing it; and whether the provinces will help all remain to be seen.

The “it” is Canada’s student visa program. Its defects and side effects have been getting a lot of attention, mostly in relation to housing prices. The fact that more than 800,000 visa students were in Canada last year, compared to fewer than 200,000 a decade and a half ago, is one of many contributors to a growing mismatch between housing demand and supply. It’s not discriminatory to point this out. It’s just math.

My bet is Miller will do nothing, ethnic vote blocs matter to the Liberals and they will not do anything to jeapordize votes.

Tasha Kheiriddin: Stacking judicial appointments with partisans makes a comeback under the Liberals

How much does it cost to get a judgeship in Canada? The answer should be “nothing.” Judges are supposed to be independent and apolitical to ensure public confidence in the legal system. All who come before the courts should be equal, whatever their political affiliation, and governments whose laws are challenged should not be favoured by friends on the bench. The judiciary has no room for partisanship, and certainly not for partisan financial gain.

Shorter Mulcair: Parents are transphobic bigots

Tom Mulcair: These conservative politicians claim they’re protecting kids, but they’re making victims of them

Saskatchewan is joining New Brunswick in an unseemly political manoeuvre, using the sensitive issue of gender identity to gain the support of certain voters at the expense of the fundamental right to equality.

If it were an oblique attack against people for who they are in terms of their religion or ethnicity, calling out that prejudice would be a slam dunk. Most segments of our society would denounce it. No serious politician would ever get close to it.

This is what Mulcair supports for your children.

AP asks what’s the first word that comes to mind when one hears ‘Joe Biden’

For an administration that’s solely focused on “optics,” it’s pretty wretched stuff that the first words that came to mind when “Joe Biden” was said to a group of polling respondents were “outdated,” “senile,” and “dementia.”

That’s what the Associated Press found in its August survey, meaning the public has seen a bit more of Joe Biden than maybe his handlers would like.

Pakistan’s blasphemy laws are a warning to the West

A note from Pakistan: never allow the state to legislate against insult. Hurt feelings must never be outlawed.

Two young Christians in the small town of Jaranwala, outside Faisalabad in Pakistan, know the consequences of this all too well. They have been accused of causing ‘insult’ by ripping pages out of the Koran and scrawling ‘blasphemous content’ on them in red ink. Perhaps the pair did do this. Perhaps they didn’t. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter. In places like Pakistan where blasphemy is criminalised, even the hint of an allegation is enough to unleash a deadly mob.

Education has become the new focal point for the country’s culture wars

Conservative and civil libertarian voices have long been stymied by Canada’s indifferent public and politicians. This provided cover for elites to run wild in schools and institutions. But now that era is coming to an end.

Large Number of Prison Escapes in Canada Linked to Federal Healing Lodges: Report

Federal healing lodges account for a considerable number of prison escapes, according to new data from the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC).

Among these incidents, one-fifth were at two Prairie locations: Willow Cree Healing Centre near Duck Lake, Saskatchewan, and Buffalo Sage Wellness House in Edmonton.
