Attorney General Garland appoints a special counsel in Hunter Biden probe

WASHINGTON — U.S. Attorney David Weiss will be appointed special counsel in the ongoing probe of the president’s son Hunter Biden, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Friday.

Weiss will be responsible for the “ongoing investigation” of President Joe Biden’s son “as well as for any other matters that arose or may arise from that investigation,” the Justice Department said in a statement. Weiss, who was already overseeing the Hunter Biden probe and is based in Delaware, asked to be appointed special counsel on Tuesday and Garland agreed it was “in the public interest” to do so, the attorney general said.

Bishop demands ‘proof’ for missing children claims

As he lay in a Calgary hospital bed in late July, retired Bishop Fred Henry summoned the energy to publicly break the silence around what he considers the prevailing “lie” about missing Indian residential school children.

“Why is the Catholic Church not asking the federal government for proof that even one residential child is actually missing in the sense that his (or) her parents didn’t know what happened to their child at the time of the child’s death?” he demanded in an e-mail.

The query itself was posed to both The Catholic Register and a former Register columnist who has challenged political accounts of Indian residential school history. Bishop Emeritus Henry apparently went to Catholic media because he has not yet received a response to an initial group e-mail he sent to his brother bishops six weeks ago.

Scientists at Fermilab close in on fifth force of nature

Scientists near Chicago say they may be getting closer to discovering the existence of a new force of nature.

They have found more evidence that sub-atomic particles, called muons, are not behaving in the way predicted by the current theory of sub-atomic physics.

Scientists believe that an unknown force could be acting on the muons.

More data will be needed to confirm these results, but if they are verified, it could mark the beginning of a revolution in physics.

David Krayden: How Serious Do Beijing’s Threats Against Canadian Lawmakers Have to Get Before Ottawa Acts?

Even as the Trudeau government had its “special rapporteur,” David Johnston, supposedly investigating foreing interference in Canada’s electoral process, China was harassing MP Michael Chong.

This is incredible and demonstrates how little China cares about any repercussions of its surveillance, interference, spying, and intimidation of Canadians who dare to question Beijing’s dictatorial and genocidal policies.

U.S. Reaches Deal With Iran to Free Americans for Jailed Iranians and Funds

The United States and Iran have reached an agreement to win the freedom of five imprisoned Americans in exchange for several jailed Iranians and eventual access to about $6 billion in Iranian oil revenue, according to several people familiar with the deal.

As a first step in the agreement, which comes after more than two years of quiet negotiations, Iran has released five Iranian American dual citizens into house arrest, according to officials at the State Department and the National Security Council.

“This is just the beginning of a process that I hope and expect will lead to their return home to the United States,” Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken said on Thursday. “There’s more work to be done to actually bring them home. My belief is that this is the beginning of the end of their nightmare.”

He spent 69 days in jail before being released on bail and was incarcerated one more day before his hearing on May 31.

‘Gas Guzzlers’: The Government Lied About Car Markets

The regulatory regime forces consumers to buy “efficient” and expensive vehicles.

How did the government get into the business of decreeing how many miles per gallon new cars (and trucks) must deliver? The authority to do this is nowhere to be found in the Constitution — though some will say, rightly, that there were no cars (or trucks) around when the Constitution became the law of the land in 1789.
