Inquiry Into Foreign Interference ‘Complicated,’ Says New Public Safety Minister

Newly appointed federal Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc says that calling a judicial inquiry into foreign interference in Canada’s elections by the Beijing regime is “complicated.”

Mr. LeBlanc, who was given the new portfolio while retaining intergovernmental affairs, made the comments shortly after being appointed to his new position in a cabinet shuffle on July 26.

Texas mom used 14-year-old daughter as ‘human shield’ after police chase: video

A Texas mom was caught in harrowing video using her 14-year-old daughter as a “human shield” after a high-speed police chase — and even shouting at cops to “shoot” them, according to officials.

Houston-area police initially thought theft suspect Tenescha Selena Henry, 35, was holding a crying hostage in a chokehold during the July 20 standoff and were shocked that the girl was actually her daughter.

‘The City of Toronto is broke’: Olivia Chow calls for federal help as shelter spaces for asylum seekers fill up

Hundreds of shelter beds city council opened up to temporarily house refugee claimants less than two weeks ago are already full, and the cash-strapped municipality has nowhere to put asylum seekers sleeping in crowded conditions at two local churches, according to Mayor Olivia Chow.

Chow made the remarks Friday after touring the Revivaltime Tabernacle Church in North York, where for more than a week more than 100 asylum seekers have been living in close quarters.

The idiots who voted for Trudeau and the idiots who voted for Chow are the same idiots.

That’s why Toronto is rapidly becoming a progressive shithole.

Most fires in Greece were started ‘by human hand’, government says

Most of the 667 fires that have erupted across Greece in recent weeks were started “by human hand”, the country’s senior climate crisis official has said.

As the Mediterranean country emerges from an unprecedented, 15-day period of heatwave-induced infernos, the scale of the destruction is finally being laid bare.

While weather conditions have been different from any other year – with experts calling the first three weeks of July the hottest on record – most of the fires could have been prevented, the government claimed on Friday.

Colby Cosh: Small retailers will pay the price for Liberal crime policies

Since I’ve been complaining about our national myopia on matters of economic growth and productivity, let me give you a timely example. Consider two fresh news items pegged to an announcement of quarterly financials by the supermarket giant Loblaw: one for Yahoo written by Financial Post alumna Alicja Siekerska, and one for the CBC by Sophia Harris.

Electric Vehicles: Ford’s Warning

In a recent Capital Letter, I wrote this on the topic of the current “forced” (the degree of coercion varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction) switch to electric vehicles (EVs):
A willful determination to enforce a transformation on this scale, regardless of what markets signal, consumers want, and manufacturers can produce, is an invitation to disaster.
The creation of a mass market for EVs in the West was never going to be straightforward, which is why it would have been better to let one develop naturally (or even with a little government help here and there: it’s not unknown for government to play some role in the development of innovative technologies). Instead, Western governments have embarked on a rushed transformation away from the internal-combustion engine without taking much heed of the consequences other than so far as the climate is concerned. (And switching to EVs won’t make too much difference to the climate in the short term, or perhaps even longer, either, but shhhh . . .)

There’s no place like Barbenheimer

A NEW phenomenon is sweeping the digital stratosphere – the movie double bill of Oppenheimer and Barbie, kitschily named on social media ‘Barbenheimer’.

A film about as grim a subject as the invention and deployment of the first atomic bomb seems a strange pairing with the story of a pink-clad plastic doll whose goal is to empower women. Barbie, manufactured by Mattel, has seen her status bolstered under licensing and distribution deals with the entertainment conglomerate Warner Brothers and an array of global brands including Chanel, showcasing their out-of-reach (to us mere mortals) products in almost every scene.

The secret messages behind the lab-leak cover-up

Beijing was helped by a cabal of conspiring scientists

“What happened to Oppenheimer damaged our ability as a society to debate honestly about scientific theory,” wrote Kai Bird, author of the biography on which Christopher Nolan’s new film is based. “Yet too many of our citizens still distrust scientists and fail to understand the scientific quest, the trial and error inherent in testing any theory against facts by experimenting. Just look at what happened to our public health civil servants during the recent pandemic.”

Sinéad O’Connor: a true rebel

In my day, teens stuck Athena posters of pop idols on their bedroom walls. Nowadays, most young people are too busy basking in the blue light of tablets and phones to get the Blu Tack out. But if today’s young people are searching for someone new on YouTube to ‘share’, ‘like’ and ‘follow’, they could do worse than Sinéad O’Connor.

Well she was rebellious, unfortunately self destructively so. Such a sad end for her and us all. 56. Far too soon.

Nolte: Looks Like Disney Has Another Big Flop with ‘Haunted Mansion’

Life is so good that, according to various box office projections, the groomers at Disney have just released another expensive flop into theaters.

This flop is called Haunted Mansion (2023). It cost a whopping $150 million to produce. Once you add in promotion costs, you’re looking at a $225 to $250 million investment that’s about to open somewhere between—lol—$25 and $30 million.

Haunted Mansion also feels like the most Disney movie ever. Get this… It’s a remake of a 2003 movie based on a theme park ride.

David Grusch’s whistleblower UFO testimony is slammed by head of Pentagon office as ‘insulting’ for accusing government of cover-up at bombshell congressional hearing

The head of the Pentagon’s UFO office has slammed Wednesday’s shocking congressional hearing in which three whistleblowers claimed they had firsthand encounters or knowledge about secret government programs involving technology that is ‘non-human.’

Sean Kirkpatrick issued a statement Friday denying some of the witnesses’ claims – drawing a fiery rebuke from lawmakers.
