Brazen Media Deny Real Reasons for ‘Dial of Destiny’s’ Failure

It’s all but official. “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” will put Disney in the red.

Again.

The fifth and presumably final film in the iconic saga opened to a weak $60 million at the U.S. box office. Those numbers would be withering for most would-be blockbusters, witness fiscal failures like “The Flash” ($55 million) and “Black Adam” ($67 million).

“Dial of Destiny” arrives with a bloated $295 million budget (or worse) plus millions in P&A. That means it’ll take a cinematic miracle for “Dial of Destiny” to break even.

Ontario looks to go ahead with three more small modular nuclear reactors

Ontario Energy Minister Todd Smith announced Friday that the province is formally seeking approvals for three more small modular nuclear reactors at its Darlington power plant, where it had already put plans in place for one unit of the novel technology.

Provincially-owned Ontario Power Generation had always contemplated building a total of four of the new units, and had begun clearing enough land for the enlarged project east of the existing Darlington nuclear plant, in Clarington, Ont., east of Toronto. But until Friday, it had been formally proceeding with just one of the new units, the country’s first.

I think SMNR’s are a great idea, better than Wind and Solar by far.

But will the regulatory burden of environmental assessments & endless consultations take a decade to complete before a shovel is even picked up as with the earlier full sized reactor announced this week?

BBC presenter: Corporation in touch with police over explicit photo allegations

The BBC says it has been in touch with police following claims one of its presenters paid a teenager £35,000 for sexually explicit photos.

The corporation says it is working as quickly as possible to establish the facts and that the presenter, who it has not named, has been suspended.

Claims the presenter began paying the young person when they were 17 were first reported by the Sun on Friday,

Neither the Sun nor the BBC are naming the man involved.

Don Braid: There’s nothing like a Trudeau to help Alberta conservatives win

The guy who made Danielle Smith premier came to Calgary on Friday.

And yes, I do mean Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Without him and the Liberals to kick around, it’s doubtful that Smith would have won the May 29 election, or even the UCP leadership last October.

France bans buying fireworks for Bastille Day after riots

France has banned the sale, possession and transport of all fireworks during the upcoming Bastille Day festivities.

The government issued a decree on Sunday prohibiting “pyrotechnic articles” for the 14 July celebrations that mark France’s national day.

The move comes after rioting sparked by last month’s police killing of 17-year-old Nahel M by police in Nanterre.

From Pride Month to Pride Season

An obviously aroused Justin Trudeau abandons decorum while prancing about at a Gay Pride event.

Last month, elites celebrated Pride across the West, but Trudeau’s commitment to the movement is second to none.

On June 8, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau joined other dignitaries on Parliament Hill for a formal raising of the ‘Pride’ flag, a solemn ceremony in which he promised yet more taxpayer money to the LGBT movement and insisted, once again, that the activists who own the country are facing a “rising tide of hate.” Last month, elites celebrated Pride across the West—the White House flew the LGBT flag alongside the Star and Stripes; in the UK, the Union Jack was taken down and replaced with the Pride flag—but Trudeau’s commitment to the movement is second to none. His government spent $108,594,964 in 2022 on ‘LGBTQ’ ideology in 2022 alone.

I’m a Harvard Astronomer. I Think We Found Interstellar Material

We did it. I led a Galileo Project expedition to the Pacific Ocean to retrieve spherules of the first recognized interstellar meteor, IM1, and brought back to Harvard College Observatory more than 50 that lay on the deep ocean floor for nearly a decade.

These sub-millimeter-sized spheres, which appear under a microscope as beautiful metallic marbles, were concentrated along the expected path of IM1, about 85 kilometers off the coast of Manus Island in Papua New Guinea.

Barbara Kay: Finally, resistance to the woke anti-Canada narrative

On Canada Day, near St. Sauveur, Quebec, we were treated to torrential rain, hail, nearby tornado warnings, and continually flickering power. Not a day for fireworks. Just as well, since fireworks are the last thing one craves when one suffers, as many Canadians do, from highly contagious, patriotism-suppressive Post Nationalism Syndrome.

This scourge cannot yet be cured, since it was intentionally cultivated and released into the environment by the current government. Only herd immunity can end it. However, the symptoms of Post Nationalism Syndrome can be alleviated by certain traditional antivirals, like National Postism. Last Saturday’s NP featured several commentaries that buoyed my spirits, in particular Michael Higgins’s misery-loves-company column , “Stop shaming and start celebrating Canada.”

France’s Jewish community on high alert after nationwide riots

Fears mount that anger directed at police for Nahel Merzouk’s death will be aimed at the community after a Holocaust memorial was defaced

France’s Jews are on high alert after the fatal police shooting of a teenager sparked days of riots across the country.

The Jewish community fears that the anger directed at police for the death of Nahel Merzouk, who was of North African descent, will be aimed at them, according to local leaders.

It’s no secret that France’s Jews have been exiting for years now.

The anti-Semitism in Europe in general is at a level we have yet to witness in North America. I stress yet.

What’s slowing Ukraine’s counteroffensive? Russia is fighting smarter

A month into Ukraine’s counteroffensive, Kyiv’s forces continue to advance, especially in their effort to retake Bakhmut. Despite the turmoil behind the Russian lines, with the mutiny by the Wagner mercenary group, there have not yet been the dramatic breakthroughs some had once predicted. In part this reflects a Ukrainian focus not on taking ground but degrading capabilities, but also unexpected Russian tenacity.

On thin ice: Who “owns” the Arctic?

The ship’s searchlight pencils its beam from one suspect cake of ice to the next. The Arctic night deepens its blues and, at the horizon, flares orange across the waters of Victoria Strait, in Nunavut’s Kitikmeot region, as one of Canada’s newest Arctic and offshore patrol ships makes its way south. Summer is waning across the Northwest Passage, the storied sea route linking the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, and with it, the Royal Canadian Navy’s latest northern sovereignty patrol, a two-month deployment that will take HMCS Margaret Brooke from her home port of Halifax to Greenland’s shores and on to Iqaluktuuttiaq (Cambridge Bay), Nunavut, then back again.

Old ice? New? Under the accusation of a naval searchlight, it all looks spectral, slightly spooky, caught-in-the-act. Tonight, none of it will pose any danger to navigation. I’ve joined Margaret Brooke on her inaugural deployment for a two-week visit as the $700-million vessel, rated Polar Class 5 for icebreaking, surges into the country’s North as part of the annual Operation Nanook.

Sleazy is as Sleazy does: NYT Columnist Rips Biden For Refusing To Acknowledge His Granddaughter

A columnist for The New York Times sharply criticized President Joe Biden’s steadfast refusal to acknowledge his seventh grandchild in a Saturday opinion piece.

Hunter Biden fathered Navy Joan Roberts, now four years old, with former exotic dancer Lunden Roberts out of wedlock. Joe Biden consistently refuses to acknowledge her as one of his grandchildren, with White House staff reportedly instructed that the president only has six grandchildren.

Poor kid is probably better off but this is sleazy even by Biden family standards.
