Meghan had an ocean of goodwill and drained it

The duchess craves fame but walked away from her perfect casting

Has anyone ever squandered more goodwill and more quickly than the Duchess of Sussex? It’s hard to remember — now that her UK popularity rating, according to YouGov, is minus 47, her and Prince Harry’s eight-figure deals with Netflix and Spotify are in the bin and she was publicly trashed last week by the chief executive of a Hollywood agency as “not a great audio talent, or necessarily any talent” — but not very long ago most people really, really, really liked Meghan. And it seems to be difficult for her to recall this, given her apparent antipathy to Britain, but people really, really, really liked her here.

You can’t pretend to be Cinderella when you’re really Morgan Le Fay.

Amid the ongoing riots that have engulfed France since June 27th following the death of 17-year-old Arab teenager Nahel M., reports emerged that a violent attack on an elderly French priest in Saint-Étienne was related to the general unrest. On Thursday evening, June 29th in Saint-Étienne, capital of the administrative division of the Loire, unknown actors assaulted and robbed Father Francis Palle.

Carbon Footprints are for Peasants

John Kerry “believes in showing up and doing everything he can”

John Kerry Ass Faced Hypocrite

The great green hoax is about a massive shift away from the industrial revolution and back toward feudalism under the guise of claiming that the world will end unless all that technology, the cheap goods and the middle-class lifestyle that comes with it aren’t reined in by powerful supervisory authorities.

Tracking ‘carbon emissions’ is a key element in this plan. Assign every activity and every individual a carbon footprint,.measure how much ‘carbon’ they emit by going to the store or breathing, and then regulate it.

‘It was an accident’: the scientists who have turned humid air into renewable power

In the early 20th century, Serbian inventor Nikola Tesla dreamed of pulling limitless free electricity from the air around us. Ever ambitious, Tesla was thinking on a vast scale, effectively looking at the Earth and upper atmosphere as two ends of an enormous battery. Needless to say, his dreams were never realised, but the promise of air-derived electricity – hygroelectricity – is now capturing researchers’ imaginations again. The difference: they’re not thinking big, but very, very small.

Canada calls on Israel to reverse thousands of West Bank settlement approvals

The Canadian government has joined a chorus of allies condemning Israel’s approval of more than 5,700 settlement units in the occupied West Bank, a move that comes amid surging violence in the region.

In a joint statement with her Australian and U.K. counterparts Friday, Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly says she is gravely concerned by the move.

“The continued expansion of settlements is an obstacle to peace and negatively impacts efforts to achieve a negotiated two-state solution,” says the statement.

Stop rioting, pleads Nahel Merzouk’s grandmother

A grandmother of the teenage boy killed by a policeman in a Paris suburb pleaded for an end to the violence after five nights of rioting in France.

As the authorities prepared to deploy 45,000 police and special forces officers on Sunday night, 17-year-old Nahel Merzouk’s grandmother Nadia appealed for calm.

“I say to the people who are breaking things up — stop,” she told the French broadcaster BFMTV. “Nahel is dead. My daughter had just one child. She’s lost, it’s over, my daughter has no life.”

America’s far right is operating in Canada. Why don’t we consider that foreign interference?

Canada is almost certainly headed toward some kind of inquiry into foreign interference in its democracy.

But if its focus is solely on China or Russia and other state actors, it won’t be tackling the potentially far more troubling forces that proved so disruptive to Canada during last year’s convoy protest.

Is the country ready to take that dark dive into foreign interference — the non-China variety?

Cathedral starts silent disco nights to lure in younger worshippers

Ely Cathedral opened its doors to 800 ravers this week as it hosted its first silent disco in a bid to lure in younger worshippers.

The sell-out 1990s themed event at the medieval site was organised by Silent Discos in Incredible Places, and is part of a raft of measures to welcome a younger crowd and to boost the cathedrals finances.

“This is not my cathedral. It’s the cathedral for the people who live here,” the Very Rev Mark Bonney, the 35th Dean of Ely, told The Sunday Times.

Brazil Worries It Has Become a Haven for Russian Spies Infiltrating the West

Alleged agents posing as Brazilians have caught the eye of the U.S. and Norway—and could be candidates in any prisoner exchange

PADRE BERNARDO, Brazil—The double life of a suspected Russian spy arrested in the far north of Norway began more than a decade earlier in this corn-and-soybean producing town a half a world away, Brazilian authorities say.

Norwegian authorities say a university researcher carrying Brazilian documentation is actually a deep-cover agent for Moscow, charging him with espionage. Investigators traced his Brazilian citizenship to a fraudulently obtained birth certificate from Padre Bernardo, in what has become a familiar pattern of identity theft and spycraft originating from this South American country.

Joe Biden is not OK

The Democrats are masters of holding on to all power long after they should

One of the most reliable standards in international comedy has long been the outstanding ineloquence of American politicians. In this place I recently summoned up the golden memory of Dan Quayle. But if you look at the record, there was similar — far less justified — tittering at Ronald Reagan. Closer to our own time comedians and others had much fun with George W. Bush, Donald Trump and indeed almost everybody who has ever risen to the top of the Republican Party.

Second world war British fighter planes unearthed in Ukraine

Authorities in Ukraine have discovered the remains of eight British Hurricane fighter planes dating back to the second world war.

The aircraft, found near an unexploded bomb dating from the same conflict in a forest south of Kyiv, were sent to the Soviet Union by Britain after Nazi Germany invaded the country in 1941.

“It is very rare to find this aircraft in Ukraine,” Oleks Shtan, a former airline pilot who is leading the excavation, told the BBC. “It’s very important for our aviation history because no lend-lease aircraft have been found here before.”
