The power of the Kennedy Myth

Even progressives believe in the power of the clan

Having asserted a claim to literacy, I will now tell you what I’ve been reading, and why. I read for pleasure, and find as much pleasing in browsing as I find drudgery in study. But I am preparing a film about the assassination of John F. Kennedy — and so, I have returned to books I originally cherished just because.

Seattle: Photos show homeless people slumped over after shooting up on sidewalks – as woke officials choose not to make public drug use illegal

Homeless people have been pictured slumped over in the streets of Seattle and openly shooting up drugs, after the city’s officials chose not to make public drug use illegal.

Earlier this month, the Seattle City Council voted not to pass legislation that would have allowed the City Attorney’s Office to prosecute public drug use cases.

The move would have brought Seattle into compliance with the state’s new drug possession law, which makes the crime a gross misdemeanor.

The Left Can Have Islam or LGBTQA+. Not Both

Regenbogen, Vienna’s ‘rainbow’ gay pride parade, began with the announcement that three Muslim teenagers with roots in Bosnia and Chechnya, were arrested for planning an attack using axes and knives. The alleged Muslim terrorists were reportedly supporters of ISIS.

Dominik Nepp, the leader of Austria’s conservative Freedom Party, blasted a “completely misguided red-green-pink mass immigration policy that promotes radical Islam in Vienna and throughout Austria.”

Local Wisconsin Supervisor Calls For Police Investigation After Child Participates In Madison’s Adult Naked Bike Ride

After a naked child was apparently allowed to participate alongside nude adults in a so-called “body positivity” bike ride around Madison’s Capitol Square on Saturday, a member of the Dane County Board of Supervisors is calling for a police investigation.

About 150 adult bicyclists, most of whom were reportedly totally naked except for shoes and helmets, paraded around downtown Madison last weekend. Their route included State Street, a popular pedestrian road that connects to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. But it also included a couple of loops around Capitol Square, where every Saturday during the summer, locals, including families and young children, gather for the busy farmer’s market.

Over 300 CAF Members Launch $500 Million Lawsuit Against Military for COVID Vaccine Mandates

Around 330 active or former members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) who say they were harmed by COVID-19 vaccine mandates have filed a class-action lawsuit against high-ranking members of the Canadian military, asking for some $500 million in damages.

“The CAF shirked its own purpose and rushed an untested product onto its members, mislabeled this experimental gene therapy a ‘vaccine,’ knowingly made false statements of safety and efficacy, and facilitated its mandate with no option to refuse except for mandatory permanent removal from service,” reads the statement of claim filed with the Federal Court on June 21.

Russia says Wagner Group’s leader will move to Belarus after his rebellious march challenged Putin

The rebellious Russian mercenary commander who ordered his troops to march on Moscow before abruptly reversing course will move to neighboring Belarus and not face prosecution, the Kremlin said Saturday, as part of a deal to defuse a crisis that represented the most significant challenge to President Vladimir Putin in his more than two decades in power.

The charges against Yevgeny Prigozhin for mounting an armed rebellion will be dropped and the troops who joined him also will not be prosecuted, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced, and fighters from his Wagner Group who did not take part in the uprising will be offered contracts by the Defense Ministry.

Bruce Pardy: How Canada’s secular religion of cultural self-hate took hold

Modern Western civilization grew out of the Enlightenment of the 17th and 18th centuries. The ascendancy of reason in human affairs produced the scientific method and later the Industrial Revolution. Add in the rule of law, individual liberty, private property and capitalism, and you have the basic recipe that has raised much of humanity out of poverty and oppression over two centuries.

Is the Air Coming Out of Harry and Meghan’s Content Balloon?

In early 2021, after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sat for a bombshell Oprah interview on the heels of their megawatt deals with Netflix and Spotify, the spitball-attracting royals seemed poised to become media machers in their own right. “They reached a whole new audience who now can’t wait to see what happens next,” the veteran royal chronicler Tina Brown told me at the time. Media analyst Rich Greenfield echoed that sentiment, saying, “I think this clearly shows, whatever their profile was beforehand in the US and globally, it’s clearly that much larger now.” A Hollywood source concurred: “I think the crossover appeal—Black Lives Matter meets The Crown—is a fever pitch opportunity.”

The secretive world of underwater espionage – and how it traced the Titan

While the world was praying this week for a dramatic rescue of the Titan submariners, those with access to classified intelligence knew all along that the search was almost certainly futile.

A US Navy listening device had picked up the noise of what has now been described as the “catastrophic implosion” of the vessel at the time it lost contact with its mothership on Sunday.

The Dark Side of “Micro-mobility”

Tragedies like this week’s e-bike repair shop fire highlight the hidden dangers that personal vehicles powered by lithium-ion batteries pose to urban environments.

It was just after midnight on Tuesday, June 20, when a Lower East Side deli worker saw smoke pouring from the shuttered HQ E-Bike Repair shop at 80 Madison Street. The worker called 911, and the fire department arrived within four minutes. Firefighters began pulling residents, some unconscious, from the smoke-filled apartment building above the shop. But they couldn’t stop the intense fire from burning through to the apartments above and into the building next door. It even blasted through the shop’s metal security gate. Four people died in the blaze, and two others were critically injured.

Intelligence report says US split on Covid-19 origins

US intelligence agencies have found no direct evidence that Covid-19 broke out from a Chinese laboratory, a declassified report has said.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) said both a natural and laboratory origin remain plausible scenarios.

It noted most US intelligence agencies agree the virus was not genetically engineered or “laboratory-adapted”.

The origins of the pandemic have been a matter of bitter debate in the US.
