Box Office Analyst Estimates Disney Lost $890 Million on Last Eight Theatrical Releases

The Walt Disney Co. is estimated to have lost a stunning $890 million on its last eight studio releases, including The Little Mermaid and Elemental, according to a box office analyst.

Disney could see even more red ink since these titles are all destined for the Disney+ streaming service instead of other streamers, like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, where they could generate additional revenue.

Smol: Teachers and their unions partly to blame for epidemic of violence against teachers

… Today’s generation of weak, discipline-averse principals, frightened of parents and intent on being best friends with violence-prone “behavioural” students, deserve much of the blame. However, the fundamental institutional hypocrisy of the teaching profession is that all too often, today’s teachers will tolerate a level of harassment and violence from students that they would never remotely allow from anyone doing the same thing outside of school property.

Hundreds Offered Money, Bus Ride to Join Parliament Hill Protest Against Foreign Agent Registry

Hundreds in Toronto’s Chinese community are being offered money and a free bus ride to Ottawa to join a protest on Parliament Hill “to protect our legal rights and interests.” While the event is advertised as marking the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Exclusion Act, some organizers have talked about the issue as part of a larger movement to oppose measures such as the proposed foreign agent registry act.

According to one of the organizers, about 28 buses will be transporting protesters from the Toronto area to the nation’s capital on Saturday, June 24, in the morning, and organizers are offering each participant a $15 “lunch subsidy” in the form of a Walmart gift card, The Epoch Times has learned.

Doctors urge ‘Macon Bacon’ baseball team change its name: ‘You wouldn’t have Team Asbestos’

A Georgia summer baseball team named the Macon Bacon has found itself at the center of a porcine polemic as a group of doctors is urging this outfit to change its name and promote vegetarian “alternatives”.

This medical organization has posted a new billboard urging Macon Bacon fans to “keep bacon off your plate” to prevent cancer, and committee leadership has written to team management requesting a name change.

Ontario school board’s anti-Islamophobia strategy questioned after Muslim student singled out

An Ontario father is questioning the legitimacy of a school board’s anti-Islamophobia strategy months after his son was singled out by a teacher during a lesson that featured racist cartoons.

During the January class, the high school teacher in Peel Region, which includes the Toronto-area cities of Mississauga and Brampton, showed two caricatures from the controversial French magazine Charlie Hebdo to international baccalaureate students as part of a module on censorship.

Without addressing the stereotypical nature of the cartoons — which targeted Muslim, Jewish and Black communities — the teacher discussed the 2015 Charlie Hebdo massacre in which the magazine’s offices were attacked by two Al-Qaeda-linked members who killed 12 people.

Eviction filings are 50% higher than they were pre-pandemic in some cities as rents rise

ATLANTA (AP) — Entering court using a walker, a doctor’s note clutched in his hand, 70-year-old Dana Williams, who suffers serious heart problems, hypertension and asthma, pleaded to delay eviction from his two-bedroom apartment in Atlanta.

Although sympathetic, the judge said state law required him to evict Williams and his 25-year-old daughter De’mai Williams in April because they owed $8,348 in unpaid rent and fees on their $940-a-month apartment.

They have been living in limbo ever since.

Will competing Toronto mayoral endorsements spark change in final campaign days?

The mayoral race has entered its final sprint as arguably the two biggest names in Toronto politics weigh in with competing robocalls.

On Thursday, the voices of both former mayor John Tory and sitting premier Doug Ford could be heard in robocalls, urging voters to support competing candidates.

The two men endorsed rival campaigns on Wednesday. Tory came out in support of Ana Bailão, his former deputy mayor, and Ford confirmed his already apparent support for former police chief Mark Saunders.

Hardly. It’s no secret Ford endorsed Saunders from Day 1. If anything that likely hurt Saunder’s chances. As for Tory, that’s for Ana Bailao to rue.

In a statement announcing the new policy in the Swedish Parliament, Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson warned that the Scandinavian nation needs “a stable energy system.”

Vindication in Russia, or American Folly?

Like Noah and Rich, I’ve seen enough, and studied enough Russian history, to be inclined to a large dollop of caution both about what exactly is happening in Russia right now, and about what we should want to see happening. Every possible source of information is unreliable. Hardly anybody saw these particular turns of events coming — either the rebellion of Yevgeny Prigozhin or what now appears to be its end.

The dangers of virtue-signalling

They look “ghetto”

Woke culture encourages and rewards pathological behaviours.

In his 1984 book, Political Ponerology, psychologist Andrzej Lobaczewski coined the term ‘pathocracy’. It refers to a government made up of people with personality disorders, particularly narcissism and psychopathology. Predictably, interest in the idea of pathocracy flourished after Donald Trump became president in 2016.

The presence of such personalities in politics is neither new nor surprising. Research has long shown that reward arrogance, preferring displays of confidence over competence. This can regularly lead to the promotion of the wrong individuals.

Suddenly, the White House counsel drops claim that Joe ‘never discussed business’ with Hunter

The IRS whistleblowers’ testimony, temporarily overshadowed by media focus on the “search” for survivors of the Titan submersible – which the Navy already knew was crushed Sunday — was an inflection point signaling that the crimes of the Biden family can no longer be kept under a lid.  The top propaganda media know it, and evidently, President Biden’s White House Counsel also knows it.
