Rowan Atkinson: our honeymoon with electric cars is coming to an end

Over a decade ago, fans of BBC’s Top Gear will remember when it was Rowan Atkinson’s turn to have a go at the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car segment.

This is back when Jeremy Clarkson’s running gag centred around the BBC’s shoestring budget, meaning they had to torture their guests with various crap cars and see which of them could get around the (airport) track fastest without any tyres falling off. In Atkinson’s case, the car in question was a Kia Cee’d.

“There clearly were strange practices, unusual practices going on” at Dong nomination but that’s OK says Special Crony

Johnston did not interview Han Dong for foreign interference report

… David Johnston, a former governor general appointed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to review allegations of foreign meddling, told a House of Commons’ committee Tuesday that he did not interview Don Valley North MP Han Dong during his two-month probe.

That’s despite finding that “there clearly were strange practices, unusual practices going on” during Dong’s 2019 nomination contest in the safe Liberal riding. Johnston said his team did not conclude that those “strange practices” could be attributed to the People’s Republic of China, though his report noted suspicions that they could be.

Expensive Liberal carbon tax could be Poilievre’s path to prime minister

With all the issues swirling about Ottawa these days, it’s hard to see the forest for the trees. What could crater the Liberals’ approval numbers? What could topple the government? What could be the ballot question?

Clearly, no one has figured that out. The latest Leger poll has the Liberal Party at 32 per cent, up two per cent over last month, while the Conservative party and the NDP sit at 33 per cent and 20 per cent, respectively, both down a point from the previous month. In other words, things are the same as they were in 2021.

U.S. had intelligence of detailed Ukrainian plan to attack Nord Stream pipeline

The CIA learned last June, via a European spy agency, that a six-person team of Ukrainian special operations forces intended to sabotage the Russia-to-Germany natural gas project

Three months before saboteurs bombed the Nord Stream natural gas pipeline, the Biden administration learned from a close ally that the Ukrainian military had planned a covert attack on the undersea network, using a small team of divers who reported directly to the commander in chief of the Ukrainian armed forces.

Details about the plan, which have not been previously reported, were collected by a European intelligence service and shared with the CIA in June 2022. They provide some of the most specific evidence to date linking the government of Ukraine to the eventual attack in the Baltic Sea, which U.S. and Western officials have called a brazen and dangerous act of sabotage on Europe’s energy infrastructure.

This revelation may make the German man on the street take to the streets.

Dangerous eugenics: Princeton scholar Peter Singer slammed for promoting euthanasia — even for sick babies

Princeton University scholar Peter Singer is under fire for promoting euthanasia for adults and even sick newborns as he touts his new book on a tour of the US, Britain, and Australia.

Singer, 76, one of the world’s top living philosophers and an animal rights champion, has stoked fury with his recent vocal support for doctor-assisted killings, including for infants born with terminal conditions.

Critics have slammed Singer’s comments as ‘dangerous eugenics,’ accusing the Australian of undermining the terminally ill and disabled by suggesting they are better off dead.

History shows academics were ardent Nazis.

China’s Space Program: Designed to Defeat the United States

The US-China “Space Race” is but one dimension of the ongoing Cold War between the two superpowers. The national space programs of both countries are comprehensive in scope, running across the entire scientific spectrum. Both America and China are focused on scoring space spectaculars to influence the world as to which superpower will inherit the future. Each rival is seeking to be the first to land a human on Mars.

Far more significant than scoring space spectaculars, however, is the question of which nation will achieve military dominance in the domain of near-earth space. Chinese international media deceitfully stresses the peaceful, cooperative, and scientific nature of its national space program. However, the ambitious nature of China’s space program indicates that Beijing’s primary objective is to dominate near earth space.

Coinbase has made billions facilitating the sale of crypto assets, the S.E.C. said in a statement, but deprived investors of significant protections.

Conservative Toronto mayoral candidate Anthony Furey gaining ground, latest poll suggests

The latest public opinion poll in Toronto’s mayoral race has Anthony Furey gaining ground, with the longtime conservative newspaper columnist even edging out several high-profile rivals.

A Forum Research poll released Monday shows Olivia Chow expanding her lead among decided voters, with 38 per cent saying she’s their top choice compared to 13 per cent for her closest rival, ex-police chief Mark Saunders. One point behind Saunders is city councillor Josh Matlow at 12 per cent.

Problem? No one to rally round in an Anybody But Chow movement.
