What I saw riding the 505 Dundas streetcar in Toronto

The transit route I take most often is the 505 streetcar – the “Dundas car.” Lately, riding it has become a bit of an adventure.

The 505 runs along Dundas Street, the historic thoroughfare that gives its name to Yonge-Dundas Square opposite the Eaton Centre mall. Along the way it passes safe-consumption sites for people who use drugs and shelters for people experiencing homelessness.

Black Lives Matter’s woke industrial complex may finally be crashing down

The corporates dishing money out to the head honchos of the movement seem to have made a bad call

In the tense uncertainty of spring 2020, when the first Covid lockdown began to ease but the virus was still at large, I was among those who found themselves without a romantic chair when the music had stopped. Though it would be a while before I was ready to exchange saliva with anyone, dating apps became a reassuring diversion.

Or at least they were until George Floyd’s tragic murder in May 2020, at which point such apps began, with extreme intrusiveness, to preach the agenda of the ascendent Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement. The worst of them regularly interrupted swipe-athons with messages demanding allegiance to the ethics of BLM, with the implication that we had better make sure our sexual choices were not racially biased.

A Biden Department of Homeland Security (DHS) “anti-terrorism” program sent funding to an outfit that, in its grant application, included a video conflating conservative and Christian groups with neo-Nazis and terrorists, a new report from the Media Research Center (MRC) suggests. Additionally, in another video from the linked conference, the same researcher from the first video bragged about working to get conservatives fired, evicted, expelled, socially ostracized, and de-banked.

Target is reeling this Memorial Day weekend, with complaints over its Pride Month displays, especially its merchandising of a “tuck-friendly” bathing suit, ballooning into a marketing debacle on the heels of Bud Light’s recent ordeal regarding its promotion with a transgender influencer.

On Friday, Target shares fell for the seventh day, hitting their lowest level in three years. The stock dip is “partially about earnings,” Barron’s reported, as the retailer warned of “softening sales trends” in the first quarter, and “partially about a decision to adjust its LGBTQ+ Pride Month collection.”

Cards on the table: I’m a rampant opponent of white, bourgeois, male privilege. Events such as the Coronation, or another Biden-Trump stand-off, pull this lunacy into sharp focus. Yes, these ludicrous and deranged media-driven circuses may have little to do with women, black, Asian, gay or trans people. But let’s get this straight: they have absolutely fuck all to do with white working-class men either.

According to liberal conventional wisdom, we are in a post-industrial, post-imperial society where shouty (white) men can no longer trumpet their entitled assumptions unchallenged, and perhaps even have to stand in line. Well, if that’s truly the case, thank fuck for it. After all, imperialism and the patriarchy cost a lot of lives, and gave us wars, bad politics and bad art. And nothing’s changed.
