These are the homeless residents of Highway 101

John Sherry saved all his life, owned his home outright, and ran a business with 15 workers. Then his wife got cancer.

Now the couple live in a trailer and take grocery handouts from shelter volunteers. Their prospects of ever getting back into a home in tony Marin County, California, are swiftly dwindling.

‘I’m not the guy that’s down there and has zero. I saved real well. I owned my home outright. But circumstances happen,’ Sherry, 69, told DailyMail.com.

THE HORROR! Church holds ‘influence’ over Ontario community that voted down Pride flags, locals say

On a recent weekday afternoon, the main street in Norwich Township was bustling with people chatting at the local cafe, eating at the deli, or browsing through shops.

But residents say all that changes on Sundays, when the community in southwestern Ontario largely closes for the Christian day of rest, clinging to a practice generally abandoned across the province since the early 1990s when the government scrapped mandatory Sunday closures.

According to migrant shelter employees in Mexico’s Chihuahua state, migrants are rushing to the border, seeking an opportunity to cross over before the Trump-era Title 42 is lifted on May 11. A Covid-related public health emergency that underlined the migration-restricting measure expires on that date.

Beijing is in Canada’s face, and that requires us to push back. But how?

There has been much discussion of late about Chinese interference, both in our democratic processes and directed at specific individuals. In both cases, concern has arisen because that information came from leaked intelligence reports. While no one has seen the leaked material, however, it is clear that Chinese activity has taken place – confirmed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and by testimony before a House committee.

Did the CIA collude with the Biden campaign to interfere in 2020 election?

Remember the media panic of 2016-8? Thanks to a dirty-trick “dossier” from the Hillary Clinton campaign and hyperventilating from Democrats, the nation spent that time obsessed with the idea that Russian intelligence colluded with the Donald Trump campaign to interfere with the presidential election. This, of course, turned out to be nonsense — and malicious nonsense at that.

UK poised to label Wagner group terrorists as France urges EU to act

The French parliament has called on the EU to formally label the Russian mercenary group Wagner as terrorists, as the UK reportedly prepares to do the same.

France’s parliament unanimously passed a non-binding resolution aimed at encouraging the 27 members of the EU to put Wagner on its official list of terrorist organisations.

“Wherever they work, Wagner members spread instability and violence,” MP Benjamin Haddad told parliament on Tuesday. “They kill and torture. They massacre and pillage. They intimidate and manipulate with almost total impunity.”

All three of Trudeau’s national security advisers can’t recall receiving CSIS report on MP threats

All three national security and intelligence advisers who served Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in 2021 told Global News that they do not recall receiving a top secret intelligence assessment prepared that year about Beijing targeting Conservative MP Michael Chong and his family in Hong Kong.

The development raises yet more questions about how the report from the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), which was allegedly sent to the desk of the prime minister’s top national security official, somehow fell through the cracks.

$3,000 for a one bedroom? Experts say this will be the norm

Canada’s red-hot rental market is likely only going up from here, experts say.

In Toronto, the average cost to rent a one-bedroom condo was $2,506 in March, marking a 22 per cent increase from the same time last year, the data showed.

Costly World Cup deal with MLSE never ‘made known’ to councillors, mayor: report

A so-called sweetheart deal that will see taxpayers foot the bill for cost overruns related to Toronto’s 2026 FIFA World Cup games was not “made known” to the city’s elected officials before it was signed, according to a new report.

A letter written by the City Manager confirmed Tuesday that the deal with Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE), which would see the city assume financial risk for the event, did not need council’s approval — and was binding.

“I think we’re a little worried that we might be on the hook for a fair amount of money here,” Councillor Paula Fletcher told CTV Toronto Tuesday. “If there’s cost overruns…MLSE doesn’t pay.”

This is gross negligence. The deal should be torn up.

The city is in a precarious financial situation and I see no benefit to lining the pockets of the wealthy with tax payer funds.
