The family of Halyna Hutchins, the Rust cinematographer who died on set, say they will sue Alec Baldwin despite his criminal charges being dropped.
Manslaughter charges against Mr Baldwin, who was holding the prop gun that fired the fatal bullet, were withdrawn in New Mexico on Thursday.
A lawyer for Ms Hutchins’ parents and sister said that the actor “cannot escape responsibility” for her death.
Mr Baldwin had already reached a deal with her widower and 10-year-old son.

One of the officers embroiled in a high-profile Toronto police promotional cheating scandal has pleaded guilty at a disciplinary tribunal, admitting he got a leg up from a senior officer directly involved in the process who gave him confidential interview questions in advance.
Documents filed Friday at Const. Horace Harvey’s guilty plea to one count of discreditable conduct shed new light on a case that rocked Toronto police headquarters last year — allegedly reaching up to high levels within the force via a trail-blazing senior officer, Supt. Stacy Clarke.
Discriminatory hiring practices just aren’t enough for some people it seems.

American authorities used a legal tool that doesn’t exist in Canada: a foreign agents registry
The United States has launched a crackdown on so-called Chinese police stations operating on its soil using a legal mechanism that doesn’t exist in Canada, at least not yet — a registry of foreign agents.
U.S. authorities this week announced they had shut down what they referred to as a Chinese police station in lower Manhattan.
The criminal charges they laid were against two American citizens who allegedly failed to register their work on behalf of the People’s Republic of China.
Trudeau plays identity politics with our security in order to protect the China grift.
Why is Justin Trudeau sowing confusion about a foreign influence registry?
Asked this week about the need for Ottawa to create a foreign influence registry, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked the internment of Japanese-Canadians in the Second World War and warned against the dangers of creating “registries of foreigners in Canada.”

Meghan Markle’s decision not to attend the coronation of King Charles III is said to be partly over “unconscious bias” regarding race, sources have claimed.
Meghan Markle, the wife of wayward British Prince Harry, has reportedly refused to go to her father-in-law’s coronation over an ongoing race row she is having with the UK royal family, sources have told the UK press.
I think Charles is hoping Harry escapes Meghan’s thrall but if I were him they would both be disowned, she’s nothing but a grifter.

A recent article in the National Observer suggested that “real” populists would support the public workers currently on strike in Ottawa, which includes 159,000 federal employees in various departments, from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada to Veterans Affairs.
The article calls these public workers “working class” and attacks Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre for not championing them. Poilievre sells himself as the politician who cares about the little guy, so why doesn’t he care about these guys? Is this not a populist movement?
Most of Blackie’s media have been pushing this insulting “public service union as working class” canard.
The public service is 74% unionized with wages and benefits the working class, (13% unionized,) can only dream of.
Did you get full pay to stay home during the pandemic? Did you get a bonus for just breathing during the pandemic?
Didn’t think so.

The beer giant has been under fire for the stupid marketing decision that has alienated its core demographic: older, sane people who don’t think men are women no matter how much makeup they put on or how many times they say, “transwomen are women!”

For over a year, a massive An-124 Ruslan cargo plane has been sitting on the tarmac of Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. The jet, with serial numbers RA-82078, had landed there on February 27, 2022 carrying a cargo of Covid-19 rapid tests—just four days after Russia launched its massive invasion of Ukraine. That same day, Canada’s transport minister closed Canadian airspace to all Russian-operated aircraft, keeping the An-124 grounded.

Francesco Lollobrigida, an Italian minister and high-ranking member of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s Fratelli d’Italia (FdI) party, has warned that the country risks “ethnic replacement” due to the sustained mass influx of foreigners paired with dismally low birthrates, thereby prompting the ire of the country’s left-globalist opposition.
Lollobrigida, Italy’s Agriculture Minister, made his comments in response to recent figures released by the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) which revealed that, at 393,000, the number of births recorded last year was the lowest since 1861, when the country unified, the Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera reports.
With those numbers, Italy recorded the third-lowest birth rate in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

A new poll by Keep Toronto Moving, a grassroots organization looking at transportation solutions, finds 63% of Torontonians want the next mayor to evaluate bike lanes with 84% wanting that to happen every two to three years.
Another 64% of Torontonians agree that dedicated bike lanes should be moved off major roadways to have less of an impact on congestion and local businesses.

A Discord user matching the profile of Jack Teixeira distributed intelligence to a larger chat group, days after the beginning of the Ukraine war.
The Air National Guardsman accused of leaking classified documents to a small group of gamers had been posting sensitive information months earlier than previously known and to a much larger chat group, according to online postings reviewed by The New York Times.
In February 2022, soon after the invasion of Ukraine, a user profile matching that of Airman Jack Teixeira began posting secret intelligence on the Russian war effort on a previously undisclosed chat group on Discord, a social media platform popular among gamers. The chat group contained about 600 members.

A new poll commissioned by a public relations firm found that 45 percent of Canadians want to shut down the public broadcaster CBC, with a similar number also considering its content to be propaganda.
Spark Advocacy published on April 21 the findings from a nationwide online survey held this week with field work done by pollster Abacus Data.
I do not trust the results as I suspect more wish to see CBC gone.

When a little black kitten was born at a frontline base in Kharkiv, the soldiers adopted it as their mascot, calling it “Stinger” after the feared shoulder-held missile that helped to defeat the Soviet army in Afghanistan. “It’s the only air defence we have here,” one of the men, codenamed “Hollywood”, explained.
Three decades on, Russian aircraft are equipped with new technology that scrambles the Stinger’s heat-seeking targeting system. “Now we have to fire two and hope that the second one will make it,” Hollywood said.

It seems an unwritten custom that, each calendar year, Canadians must observe at least one Justin Trudeau vacation scandal. After a certain point, they start to blur together into an amorphous cloud of exorbitantly expensive stays, questionable judgement and MPs yelling at each other about it during Question Period.
